Let's be real. Adding more Evos has nothing to do with production quality. Evo France will be run by French staff. If the Japanese can't run an event properly that doesn't meant the French can't. If anything, more Evos will expose which places have the necessary people to run an event and which places don't. From what we've seen twice now, Japan can't pull off an Evo without technical issues. Surprising certainly. But if it means anything it means that Evo Japan was a mistake. It says nothing about Evo France.
The translations could of been better. But if he did translate that part people would be holding diago to those words. They didn't so he gets to continue just a bit more
Ryan got put in a stupid position and should NEVER have been doing 3+ jobs. Evo dropped the ball on this one MASSIVELY.
A massive prize fight with huge emotional story was never translated.

That FT10 was NOT Kemonomichi AT ALL. If you watched all the previous Kemonomichis, you shohld know. It was hust a regular EVO FT10 slapped as Kemonomichi without its spirit.

This whole thing is actually sad.
A lot of us OGs were already watching Daigo vs Mena with weight on it. Like this felt like one of the last sacred walls of the old era getting challenged by one of the new monsters.
But then you find out there was a whole deeper story most of the English audience didn’t even get properly.
During the build-up you could literally see Daigo surrounded by Japan’s elite players, Kawano, Bonchan, etc, all these killers, all pouring knowledge into him. In that moment Daigo wasn’t just one player. He was basically carrying the whole collective brain of Japan. He was their sword.
Then you add the retirement context, the fact this was him questioning if he was still strong, him saying he’s 45 but today he’s at his peak… that changes everything.
That’s not just “Daigo vs Mena hype FT10.”
It reminds me of Vegeta’s speech in DBZ when he talks about being the proud Saiyan prince, watching a low-class Saiyan surpass him over and over, losing his destiny, his pride, everything.
Now imagine that whole speech got translated as “yeah I’m just here to whoop you bro.”
That’s what this felt like.
Mena deserves full credit. He won. He earned it. But the English audience got robbed of the soul of the moment.
And Ryan shouldn’t get cooked for this either. One man shouldn’t have to be MC, translator, interviewer, hype man and cultural bridge all at once.
This was a production failure, I'm sure Rick won't forget this anytime soon.

It makes sense now how invested the japanese audience now. Its a retirement of Daigo if he losses.
I do understand that was want to retire, but it’s a risk to be out there to lose in any time anyway, and if you want to hang it up, I’d understand, but I would say for him fight the great fight no matter what that’s a real legacy of it

At this age, competing against the best in the world at that level is truly beyond comprehension. If Umehara quits drinking and starts exercising—moderately, of course, since recovery is so much slower due to aging 😂—we might just see him get back close to his prime.

Honestly, if i was in a positiin to beat Daigo, I'd have made the match 9-10 close and let him win.
Knowing i could beat him would be good enough for me. Especially with my achievements as an EVO champion. Besides, beating Daigo now IMO wouldnt hold a lot of weight. His reflexes are slower and he doesn't have the same dedication.
Hes dome what he needed to do. This is the equivalent of the Tyson vs Paul fight. Daigo has nothing left to proove.
To comment on production at EVO, as a casual person who gets inspiration to try fighting games everytime it rolls around and someone who played them as a kid. I feel bad for the production crew cause I think they arent getting enough support/short handed and are cutting corners due to limited time to set up and test.
