Travis Japan【スペシャル対談】Hey! Say! JUMP有岡くん×宮近📢JUMP兄さんの新曲「GHOST」振付裏話や15年前の出会いとか。

Chaka: Hi, I’m Chaka from Travis Japan. Chaka: Yeah! Chaka: So today, we have a special guest with us. Chaka: Who could it be? Any guesses? Chaka: Make your guesses!
Daiki: You can already see me. Daiki: We’re in the same frame. Daiki: Okay, thinking time. Chaka: Well, too bad! You’re wrong. Daiki: They missed it. Chaka: So, Arioka-kun from Hey! Say! JUMP came by. Daiki: I’m Daiki. Hello!
[First appearance on ToraTube!] Chaka: Thanks for coming!
[First appearance on ToraTube!] Chaka: So today on our YouTube channel,
we have our senior Arioka-kun joining us.
[So, what will we be doing with Arioka-kun today?] Daiki: Yep, thanks for having me.
[So, what will we be doing with Arioka-kun today?] Chaka: We’re going to talk about the buzz around “GHOST” Daiki: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Chaka: We’d like to talk about that.
[“GHOST” is now available digitally!] Daiki: Sounds good.
[“GHOST” is now available digitally!] Daiki:”GHOST” is our Halloween digital single
from Hey! Say! JUMP.
[“GHOST” is now available digitally!] Daiki: We asked for help with the choreography.
[Choreography: in collaboration with Macoto (RHT.)] Chaka: Yep.
[Choreography: in collaboration with Macoto (RHT.)] Daiki: And it came together!
[Choreography: in collaboration with Macoto (RHT.)] Chaka: So, let’s start with how it all came about. Daiki: The backstory, huh? Chaka: From the very beginning. Daiki: Might as well, right? Chaka: Yeah, since we’re here. Daiki: Yeah, we should. Chaka: Yeah, we should. [Today’s video: Behind-the-scenes talk about “GHOST”
choreographed by Chaka and featuring guest Arioka-kun
from Hey! Say! JUMP] [Chaka & Arioka talk about their 15-year history and
how this project came to be!] [Daiki × Chaka First meeting] Daiki: You know, JUMP’s… Chaka: Yeah. Daiki: You used to dance behind JUMP when you were a kid, right? Chaka: Yeah, about 15 years ago. Daiki: 15 years ago, huh. Chaka: I think even the JUMP members didn’t know much
when you introduced us. Chaka: “JaPA-nese Hi!” Daiki: Oh yeah,”JaPA-nese Hi!” Chaka: I was part of that group.
[“JaPA-nese Hi!” A group formed in 2010 made up of Junior trainees,
performing as backup dancers for NYC.] Daiki: “JaPA-nese Hi!”, huh.
[“JaPA-nese Hi!” A group formed in 2010 made up of Junior trainees,
performing as backup dancers for NYC.] Chaka: It wasn’t Jr.
[“JaPA-nese Hi!” A group formed in 2010 made up of Junior trainees,
performing as backup dancers for NYC.] Daiki: Right, that was ‘PA’.
[“JaPA-nese Hi!” A group formed in 2010 made up of Junior trainees,
performing as backup dancers for NYC.] Chaka: That’s right. Daiki: How many members were there? Chaka: About 50. Daiki: No way! Chaka: Remember the “Jr. mansion”? Daiki: Yeah, the Jr. mansion. Chaka: It had like 10 rooms or more on one floor.
[“Jr. Mansion”
A giant stage set with stacked rooms
where Jr.’s perform inside small spaces.] Daiki: Yeah, it was like a real apartment layout.
[“Jr. Mansion”
A giant stage set with stacked rooms
where Jr.’s perform inside small spaces.] Chaka: It was like four floors tall,
and “JaPA-nese Hi!” filled the whole rooms. Daiki: So there really were 50 people. Chaka: We used to wonder if we’d ever become
like JUMP someday while on stage. Daiki: Are any of those kids still with you now? Chaka: In Travis Japan, Umi is. Daiki: Oh, Umi too? Chaka: Machu as well. Daiki: From that mansion, huh. Chaka: Yep. Chaka: A lot of entertainers came from there. Daiki: Right, and if someone couldn’t make it
due to school or something – Daiki: Someone else would fill in, right? Chaka: Like the “Libero” kids. Daiki: Were there kids called Libero? Chaka: They were there. Daiki: What were they? Chaka: They could jump in anywhere. Daiki: Yeah, that mansion was like a big grid. Daiki: If they dance with canon, Chaka: Yeah, yeah. Daiki: Pa pa pa pa pa. Daiki: They’d adjust quickly. Chaka: Like “Super Libero.” Daiki: Super Libero. Chaka: A few were always on stage. Daiki: Are any of them still around now? Chaka: Shizu was one. Daiki: Shizu? No way. Super Libero. Chaka: They didn’t belong to any group. Daiki: Impressive. Chaka: They moved around a lot. Daiki: Yeah, from room to room. Daiki: What was your impression of JUMP back then? [Impressions of Hey! Say! JUMP from 15 years ago] Chaka: I performed together a few times,
especially in “SUMMARY” Daiki: Yeah, that was a long one. Chaka: We got used to seeing the seniors. Chaka: They were a bit scary but also super cool. Daiki: Yeah, yeah. Chaka: But I didn’t really know what they were like behind the scenes. Daiki: Their habits, huh? Like Yamada. Chaka: Yeah, when everyone was around,
they’d say “Hey!” or tease him, Chaka: But backstage, it was really rare to be teased
all the time. Chaka: So he seemed really cool. Daiki: Right, right. Daiki: Takaki was one of those guys, wasn’t he? Chaka: Takaki-kun was scary. Daiki: Everyone says that. Daiki: The drama “Gokusen” really influenced that too. Chaka: His character was the quick-to-fight type. Daiki: Yeah. But in real life, he’s super sweet. Chaka: Really? Daiki: Yeah. Daiki: From “PARADE” we started working closely together. Chaka: Right. We joined as tour backup dancers and finally got to interact.
[Travis Japan joined Hey! Say! JUMP’s tour as backup dancers
for the first time (Starting Dec 20, 2019 in Nagoya)] Daiki: Yeah.
[Travis Japan joined Hey! Say! JUMP’s tour as backup dancers
for the first time (Starting Dec 20, 2019 in Nagoya)] Chaka: We were all adults by then.
[Travis Japan joined Hey! Say! JUMP’s tour as backup dancers
for the first time (Starting Dec 20, 2019 in Nagoya)] Daiki: That’s true.
[Travis Japan joined Hey! Say! JUMP’s tour as backup dancers
for the first time (Starting Dec 20, 2019 in Nagoya)] [In 2019, on the Hey! Say! JUMP tour back] Daiki: It was our first time having Travis Japan as backup, Daiki: and we were all impressed by how good they were. Daiki: I remember JUMP members talking about
how amazing the dancing was. Chaka: Right! [Self-praise] Daiki: Yeah. Chaka: Totally. Daiki: Of course, they’re goofy and playful sometimes, Daiki: but once the music starts, they switch into serious mode. Chaka: That gap is what makes them great. [More self-praise] Daiki: It really is.
[More self-praise] Chaka: How we ended up doing backup dancing was… Daiki: Yeah, that’s right. Chaka: like special. Chaka: You were just “Arioka from JUMP” to me, Chaka: and I was just “Chaka from Travis Japan”
We weren’t close. Daiki: Yeah, exactly. Daiki: Back then, when choosing backup dancers, Daiki: We’d ask which Jr. groups were available. Chaka: Right, right. Daiki: And it just so happened that Travis Japan was available. Chaka: Yeah. Chaka: The first show of “PARADE” was in Osaka.
But it overlapped with our stage performance. Daiki: Yeah, yeah. Chaka: After that first show, we were free for the rest of the tour.
[In 2019, Travis Japan was also performing in the stage show
“Tora-ja – NINJAPAN -” at the time.] Daiki: Right.
[In 2019, Travis Japan was also performing in the stage show
“Tora-ja – NINJAPAN -” at the time.] Chaka: Since one show overlapped, there were concerns.
[In 2019, Travis Japan was also performing in the stage show
“Tora-ja – NINJAPAN -” at the time.] Daiki: Yeah.
[In 2019, Travis Japan was also performing in the stage show
“Tora-ja – NINJAPAN -” at the time.] Chaka: Around that time, Yamada-kun’s song – Daiki: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Daiki: Yeah, “Wai-Wai Tonight.” Chaka: We danced for “Wai-Wai Tonight.”
[“Oh! My darling” Yamada Ryosuke’s solo song, released May 2019.] Daiki: That’s right.
[“Oh! My darling” Yamada Ryosuke’s solo song, released May 2019.] Chaka: I think it was for Music Fair?
[“Oh! My darling” Yamada Ryosuke’s solo song, released May 2019.] Chaka: Yeah. Chaka: After that shoot, we went out to eat with
Yamada-kun and the members. Chaka: And we said, “We’d love to be in the tour!” Chaka: He said, “I’m not sure, but I’ll ask the members.” Chaka: That led to us joining the tour. Daiki: During the tour, like when we filmed behind-the-scenes, Chaka: Yeah. Daiki: Chinen and I would always
barge into Travis Japan’s dressing room. Chaka: You guys really did that. [Daiki and Chaka got closer thanks to
behind-the-scenes dressing room visits] Chaka: You brought a camera, and normally
we wouldn’t approach you guys, Chaka: but it made us feel okay joking around with you.
Like, “That’s Nashioka -” Daiki: Oh yeah, you guys did that. Chaka: “That’s Ari -” Daiki: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Chaka: That meant a lot to me. Daiki: You guys would always prepare a skit or
joke in the dressing room. Daiki: I was happy about it.
When I said, “We’re bringing the camera.” Daiki: You’d say, “We’re ready! Anytime!” Daiki: That was so cute. Chaka: I loved those times. Daiki: Then the tour ended… Chaka: Yeah. Daiki: And after that, came “Sauna Arioka”, right? Chaka: That was huge. [In 2021, they got closer thanks to “Sauna Arioka” a TV show] Daiki: I got to produce a sauna-themed show. Daiki: The concept was to go with someone
who knows nothing about saunas.
[“Sauna Arioka”: A show produced by Daiki
on TV Tokyo on March 31 2021.
Chaka appeared as a guest.] Daiki: Chaka’s name came to mind.
[“Sauna Arioka”: A show produced by Daiki
on TV Tokyo on March 31 2021.
Chaka appeared as a guest.] Chaka: Thanks to those behind-the-scenes moments…
[“Sauna Arioka”: A show produced by Daiki
on TV Tokyo on March 31 2021.
Chaka appeared as a guest.] Daiki: Yeah, I think it all connected from that.
[“Sauna Arioka”: A show produced by Daiki
on TV Tokyo on March 31 2021.
Chaka appeared as a guest.] Daiki: I think you just stuck in my memory. Chaka: I left an impression on you. Daiki: Yeah, yeah. Chaka: That’s when we first exchanged contacts. Daiki: Yeah, we did. Daiki: After the show aired, Daiki: actor Hidetoshi Nishijima watched it. Daiki: He said,
“That kid with Arioka seems like such a good guy.” Daiki: “I’d love to meet him.” Chaka: That’s some serious reach. Daiki: Right? Amazing. Daiki: After that, we started grabbing meals
together now and then. Chaka: We moved to the U.S. Daiki: Right, yeah. Chaka: We debuted and then came back. Daiki: Oh yeah, the U.S. training. Daiki: What I thought was really cute was
the day you came back from the U.S. Chaka: Yes? Daiki: That first meal after returning is super important, right? Chaka: Totally. [After their time in the U.S.,
what did Travis Japan eat first when back in Japan?] Daiki: I suddenly got a photo sent to me. I mean, I was… Chaka: An ambassador. Daiki: Yeah, that’s right. Daiki: The photo shot at Pomunoki which I’m the ambassador. Daiki: It said, “I went to Pomunoki with my family.” Daiki: I was so happy. Chaka: I was there with my mom and sister,
and Arioka-kun was there too… on a poster. Chaka: we felt like the four of us eating omurice together… Daiki: And I was watching over you from the poster. Chaka: Then, during dinner, I was asked,
“What are you doing tomorrow?” Daiki: While you were eating. Chaka: You asked me. Chaka: “I have dinner with family tomorrow.” Chaka: Then you said, “Oh, maybe I could come too?” [Too close?! Daiki joins the Chaka family dinner!] Daiki: I did feel that it might intrude on family time, Daiki: And I questioned myself if I might be a nuisance. Daiki: But then the words just came out: “Can I join?” Chaka: So I said, “I’ll ask,” and when I told my family, Chaka: they got really excited about tomorrow, Chaka: and the whole family was super hyped up. Chaka: We talked, “Which restaurant should we go to?”
and Arioka-kun reserved it. Daiki: Well… Daiki: Yeah, we went to a Korean restaurant. Chaka: It was Korean food. Chaka: My sister and mom had even heavier makeup than usual. Daiki: No no no, it was lovely. And your brother too. Chaka: Yes, my older brother was there too. Chaka: My family used to call you “Daichan”
and now even they still call you that. Chaka: You actually chatted with my family. Daiki: We went to a second spot too. Chaka: The second place was a local snack bar. Daiki: Yeah, we did. Chaka: This place is a snack bar where my mom and dad
go to and they said, “Daichan, are you okay?” Chaka:”Let’s totally go! I like it.” You said nicely
and made them not to worry. Daiki: And then there happened to be a pretty young couple in there… Daiki: They thought I was Оhashi-kun the whole time. Chaka: That’s right. Daiki: They kept doing the “luv-luv pose” or something like that. Chaka: You pretented as Ohashi-kun. Daiki: I didn’t want to deny it – it felt too awkward. Chaka: But we sang our seniors’ songs, JUMP bros’ songs – Daiki: We did karaoke. Chaka: We did. You said “In places like this, Matchy-san is the best.” Daiki: So embarrassing. Daiki: You really got everyone hyped, you know. Daiki: The “Shonentai” songs and stuff. Chaka: That generation of people, Daiki: they got totally into it. Chaka: They could sing along with them. Daiki: And then they’d be like, “How do you kids know this?” Daiki: So the conversation just… opened up. Chaka: We could chat about all kinds of things. Daiki: Yeah, yeah. Chaka: You taught me about saunas via
“Sauna Arioka” and you taught me about snack bars. Chaka: Next up – “Snack bar Arioka” Daiki: That’s right. We should do “Snack bar Arioka” Daiki: Also, one thing I really admire about Chaka is, Daiki: when I ask him what he wants to eat,
he always gives me a precise answer. [Daiki raves! Chaka’s pro junior skills] Daiki: “I had Italian yesterday, so today I prefer meat.” Daiki: Honestly, I find that so sweet and helpful. Daiki: The way you send it without any hint of
sarcasm is somehow teaching me. Daiki: Oh, I get it. I should’ve done that with my seniors too. Chaka: I may only do that to Arioka-kun. Daiki: Really? Chaka: If I get into a mindful mode… Daiki: Yeah. Chaka: “What did you have? Oh, how about this?” Chaka: I end up being a little wishy-washy. Daiki: But I feel like you’ve really let me in. Chaka: So that makes me easier to say like,
“This is what I want, I’m in this mood.” Daiki: That’s nice. Absolutely perfect as a junior skill. Daiki: Wait – the dental clinic next door is… Chaka: With their huge drill going… Daiki: The dental clinic next door is, you know… Chaka: Yeah, it’s right there. All those construction noises… [It seems sudden construction started nearby…
Please excuse the background noise in the audio.] Daiki: Oh, it’s construction.
[It seems sudden construction started nearby…
Please excuse the background noise in the audio.] Chaka: Yeah, that’s right.
[It seems sudden construction started nearby…
Please excuse the background noise in the audio.] Daiki: Yeah, and then we planned to go to Boston together. Chaka: Oh, right. That was a really big deal. [Invited by Daiki to go to Boston together!
Actually, something happened there that connects to this time.] Daiki: There was a live show I really wanted to see,
so I had no choice but to go. Daiki: When I checked the dates,
I might be able to go if it was the Boston show. Daiki: After that, I gave Chaka a call
and invited him to come along. Chaka: That was quite a big trip. Daiki: Yeah, I hadn’t really traveled overseas with
the members or friends before. Chaka: I see. Daiki: At that time, actually, you know, Chaka was, for that dance TV program, Chaka: Yes. Daiki: you were remotely discussing choreography. Daiki: You asked me if you made a remote call about the structure
a little bit, and at that time, I realized, Daiki: “Oh wow, he really thinks seriously about
the choreography and structure.” Daiki: That’s when I first knew that,
and I thought maybe someday I’d like to ask you for something. Chaka: Oh, really? I didn’t know that. [The thought of someday asking Chaka to choreograph
finally becomes reality!] Chaka: We talked about whether I could do choreography, Chaka: and I said I’ve done it for Travis Japan. Chaka: So you asked, “Could you do it for us someday?” Chaka: You said it might be in the future,
but you’d try to make it happen. Chaka: The conversation was over then. Daiki: Yeah, more than a year ago, Daiki: maybe we talked about it at a snack bar or something. Chaka: That’s right. Daiki: Then, probably around January or February this year,
it started to get serious. Daiki: I wrote a note saying
I wanted to consult from the song stage. Chaka: Oh, really? Daiki: I thought it was before the song was even made – Daiki: Well, this time, we had the song first and offered it
because we wanted Chaka to do it. Daiki: With demo songs and all the developments happening, Daiki: I wondered if this would suit Chaka. Chaka: After finishing the world tour in the U.S. this year, Chaka:I heard about it while I was still in America, Chaka: Then I got in touch with Arioka -kun after returning. Chaka: First, “Let’s go eat.” Chaka: When we went out to eat, we talked about how to create it, Chaka: So it was decided, and I said thank you. Chaka: We met in person. Daiki: Yeah. [Thank you for waiting!
Finally, Chaka starts choreographing of GHOST!] Daiki: I’m sorry it was a pretty tight schedule this time, Chaka: You told me to do it in a way that’s easy for me, Chaka: Macoto from RHT,
who did “Tokyo Crazy Night” and “Sweetest Tune” Chaka: I asked Arioka-kun, “Is it okay if we ask Macoto to do it?” Chaka: He said, “Please have them work together.” Chaka: So two of us worked on it together. Daiki: When you first heard the song, what did you think?
Was it easy to choreo? Chaka: The theme was already… Daiki: Yeah, the clear theme of “ghosts”, right? Chaka: Since there was a theme,
it was easier to focus on and come up with ideas. Daiki: Yeah. Chaka: Just hearing the song already gave off the atmosphere, Chaka: so I think the choreography matches it well. Daiki: Chaka went into the studio and made the moves. Chaka: Yes. Daiki: More as a dancer Chaka than Travis Japan’s Chaka, Daiki: there was a video of you filming yourself in the studio
and trying out moves. Daiki: I shared that once with the members, Daiki: and everyone reacted like, “That’s a dancer.” Chaka: Oh, really? Daiki: The expressions and everything –
like, “Okay everyone, please!” Daiki: I think you didn’t even think about being shared. [Choreographer Chaka,
his thoughts put into GHOST’s choreography] Chaka: When making something for the seniors,
I want to make them look cool, Chaka: and I want to see the fans happy, Chaka: so I put in what “cool” means from a Jr.’s perspective. Daiki: That makes me happy. Chaka: From the chorus “Oh, Yeah” to the
“Tararararara Tatatata” part, Chaka: Macoto created first and them me. Chaka: JUMP bros’ songs have choreography that shapes
the expression of the song with their hands… Chaka: I always thought there were a lot of hand movements. Daiki: Yeah. Chaka: Even back when I was dancing as backup. Daiki: Right, right. Chaka: Like in “I’m a Vampire” Daiki: Ah, yeah. That one had a lot of hand gestures, true. Chaka:”Dreams Come True” as well. Daiki: Also a lot of hand moves. Same with “Weekender”, right? Chaka: Yeah. The finger movements especially. Chaka: There are a lot of expressions through the hands
rather than the whole body. Chaka: It’s like the fingertips and vocals are dancing together. Chaka: I’ve been exposed to JUMP bros’ stuff since I was little,
so it’s kind of ingrained in me. Chaka: I made it thinking I wanted to express things with my hands.
I felt the hands were important. Daiki: Oh, I see. Chaka: So yeah, the choreography has… Daiki: Hand-focused vibe. Chaka: Like with the “ta-ra-ra-ra-ra-ta-ta-ta” part. Chaka: Even for the final pose, I was torn –
like, should I go with one finger or all? Chaka: I really agonized over it. Daiki: Oh really? Chaka: Maybe it’s because I grew up watching from
behind that those details came out. Chaka: I really paid attention to the hands. Daiki: I didn’t know that. Daiki: But honestly, I was kind of nervous during the MV shoot. Daiki: I could see you and Macoto watching the monitor,
checking everything and talking. Daiki: I was like, “What if they say I’m really bad at it?” Daiki: I was super nervous at first. Chaka: While watching, I was like… Chaka: “This is cool.” Daiki: Oh, thank goodness. Chaka: It looked really cool. Daiki: I’m glad. Really glad. Daiki: So, yeah, about the music video… Chaka: Yeah. Daiki: You haven’t watched it yet, right? Chaka: Not yet. Daiki: Please… Daiki: Definitely check it out. [Chaka watches the completed “GHOST” MV for the first time] Chaka: I haven’t seen the image scenes and stuff yet. Daiki: Yeah, you probably don’t even know
how the image shots turned out. Chaka: I haven’t seen any of it. [Everyone, please check out the MV on
Hey! Say! JUMP’s YouTube channel!] Daiki: The choreography is super catchy.
[Everyone, please check out the MV on
Hey! Say! JUMP’s YouTube channel!] Daiki: It was really fun to dance. Chaka: Really? That makes me so happy. Daiki: Yeah. So that’s how it all came together.
Thank you. Chaka: Thank you so much. Daiki: Was it okay for you? Chaka: Totally fine. Even during the filming,
I was watching and – Chaka: I was saying this with Macoto,
JUMP bros all have such unique styles when they dance. Daiki: Yeah, yeah. Chaka: Even their timing for picking up
the music is different for each person. Chaka: That might sound like a downside, but I think it actually makes everything
look cleaner and more unified. Chaka: We were saying, while watching, it’s impressive how they hit their positions
after just a few tries. Chaka: It’s not easy to adjust positions while dancing. Chaka: But because their lines are clean
and their positioning is sharp, Chaka: the formations lock in perfectly. Chaka: Even with individuality,
it just adds to the performance, Chaka: and it looks super synced and clear. Chaka: You don’t normally get to watch like that— Chaka: Our seniors… Daiki: Like from a logical or technical point of view. Chaka: Yeah, exactly. That’s what we talked about. Daiki: I’m glad to hear that. Chaka: We were like, “They’re amazing.” Chaka: The video shows their professional side, but also their cool and cute sides. Chaka: I think the fans will really enjoy it. Daiki: Thank you. Daiki: We talked a lot.
[We’ve now talked all about how they met and
how the choreography came to be!] Chaka: But it’s all in this. This is our first step. Daiki: Really feels like Chapter One. Chaka: Chapter One. Daiki: Yeah. Chaka: I think if people watch this,
they’ll understand our relationship better. Daiki: Definitely. Chaka: And from here on, we’d love if you’d watch over us. Daiki: Wow, nice line. First, let’s go to the snack bar. Chaka: Snack bar. Daiki: Gotta get you trained in that. Chaka: Please do. Looking forward to it. Daiki: Let’s go. Chaka: Arioka-kun, give us your final thoughts. Daiki: Chaka… Thanks. Daiki: Yup. Chaka: That’s it from Chaka. Daiki: And Daiki. Chaka: Thank you. Daiki: Thanks. Daiki: Can’t believe the “Thanks” from that audition led to this. Daiki: I’m so happy. Chaka: “The password, Thanks.” Daiki: When we say “Thanks,” you always moved back,
as we moved forward. Chaka: We moved back. Daiki: So that’s what it was. Chaka: Thank you. Thanks. Daiki: Thanks.
