Her hit songs include "That Doggie in the Window". "Changing Partners". and her last top 10 hit "Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte".
A couple of years later, a 15-year-old Japanese girl, Chiemi Eri sang ”Tennessee Waltz”both in English and Japanese, and the song went down very well. She was a talented and polular singer, but she passed away at the age of 45.
The song was not only Patti Page's, but also Chiemi Eri's signature song.

元々はカントリーの曲で、それなりのヒットになったようですが、よく知られるようになったのは、やはりPatti Pageさんの歌唱以降だったようです。当時アメリカ分のキャンプ周りをされていた、江利チエミさんによってカバーされ大ヒットとなりました。この曲のカップリングは「家へおいでよ」だったようで、両曲ともヒットしたようです。
江利チエミさんだけでなく、美空ひばりさんも歌っておられますが、「ワルツ」をPatti Pageさんの歌われた発音「ウォールス」と発音されておられるのはさすがと思います。やはり基本に忠実ですね。
江利チエミさんはその後高倉健さんと結婚されましたが１3年後に離婚、そして1982年に45歳でお亡くなりになられた。江利チエミさんの曲は「新妻に捧げる歌」をアップしておりますが、いつか「酒場にて」も歌いたいと思っていますが、難しいので当分お預けと思います。又今回も低音が掠れてしまいました。

この歌は外国曲無知の僕でも知っていました。静かに過ごしたい夜に合う歌ですね。
Kazuakiさんの透き通った、優しい歌い方が、この曲にぴったりですね。
