🇯🇵 Junko Mihara, a versatile Japanese talent, embarked on her remarkable career journey in 1972 at the tender age of 8, making her acting debut under the banner of Hoei Productions. Throughout the 1970s, her star continued to rise in the world of acting. However, it was in 1980, at the age of 16, that she ventured into the world of music with her hard-rock album, “Sexy Night.” By 1986, she had released a staggering 15 albums, spanning a wide array of genres from Metal to R&B, City Pop to traditional Japanese pop (kayokyoku).

In a surprising twist, around 1987, she temporarily stepped away from both her acting and singing careers to explore the thrilling world of race car driving. For over a decade, she fearlessly participated in numerous touring car races, leaving her mark on the racing circuit throughout the late 80s to the mid-2000s.

But that wasn’t the end of her story! After her thrilling racing adventure, Junko returned to the world of acting.

One of her standout moments is captured in “Windy City – Junko in Chicago: Part 1,” which transports us to the bustling streets of downtown Chicago, Illinois, USA in 1982. Here, we follow the 19-year-old Junko as she explores the city. This captivating experience is complemented by rockin’ City Pop songs from her 1983 LP of the same name, interspersed with instrumental pieces showcasing her acting prowess. Throughout, there are scenes designed to enhance Junko’s idol appeal, creating a unique fusion of genres that’s sure to captivate enthusiasts of Japanese music, idols, and BGV aficionados alike.

This Music Video offers a rare glimpse into vintage Chicago and the timeless charisma of Junko Mihara.

Beyond her achievements as an idol, singer, and race car driver, Junko Mihara’s legacy extends into the realm of politics. In 2010, she was elected as a member of the Japanese House of Councillors, representing the Kanagawa district. As of 2023, she continues to hold this esteemed position. Her campaign efforts, notably in women’s health issues after her battle with cervical cancer, contributed to her victory.

In 1979, in her early years, Junko Mihara delivered a career-defining performance in the TV drama “3rd Year Class B Kinpachi-sensei.” Portraying the tough and delinquent character “Reiko Yamada,” she gained notoriety for her portrayal of a “ツッパリ” (“Tsuppari”) or “ヤンキー” (lit. “Yankee”) personality. This fearless confidence shines through, as seen when she fearlessly navigated the streets of Chicago.

In 1984, she made a subtle change to the spelling of her name from “三原順子” to “三原じゅん子,” a modification that remains to this day. Both versions are rendered as “Junko Mihara” in romanji.
