世界が熱狂、涙する傑作が2027年1月29日（金）に日本公開本作は、1973年のチリ軍事クーデター直前、“モアイ像”で知られるイースター島に降り立ったCIAエージェントのクリス（ジョン・マルコヴィッチ）とリー（サム・ロックウェル）の2人を中心に物語が進んでいく。長年のパートナーである彼らが、それぞれの過去や現在進行形の陰謀と格闘する中、自由を求める反権力派の学生、モニカ（マリアナ・ディ・ジローラモ）とアリシア（アイリン・サラス）に出会うのだが、それはCIA南米支局長のMJ（スティーヴ・ブシェミ）をも巻き込んだ思いもよらない事態へと発展していく―。
この度、本作で主演を務めるジョン・マルコヴィッチが、自身初となるヴォルピ杯（男優賞）を受賞。受賞の喜びと、本作を手掛けたマーティン・マクドナー監督や共演者のサム・ロックウェルらへの感謝を語った。

すでにアカデミー賞®主演男優賞への期待も高まっているが、過去ヴェネチアでヴォルピ杯の栄冠を掴んだジャン・ギャバン、三船敏郎、アレック・ギネス、ジェームズ・スチュアートからショーン・ペン、ハビエル・バルデム、ウィレム・デフォー、ブラッド・ピットに至る名優たちが、同一主演作でオスカーに輝いたのは、５度のオスカーノミネートを誇る伝説的名優ポール・ムニただ一人（1936年第４回）。マルコヴィッチが90年の時を超え、そのジンクスを破れるか、大いに注目される。
また本作は、2026年10月26日（月）から開幕の第39回東京国際映画祭ガラ・セレクションでのジャパンプレミアも決定した。
