第78回カンヌ国際映画祭に正式出品、第98回アカデミー賞のアイスランド代表作にも選ばれた一作。監督は『ゴッドランド／GODLAND』で名声を高めたフリーヌル・パルマソン。主人公のアンナは子供たちや愛犬と共に穏やかな毎日をすごし、芸術活動をおこなっている。そこにちょくちょくやってくるのは元夫のマグヌスだ。子供の顔を見たいのかもしれないし、別れたのは自分の意志ではなかったのかもしれないし、まあとにかく未練というものをしっかり持ちながら彼は毎日を生きている。アンナにとっても、マグヌスは別れた夫とはいえ、好きだから結婚して3人もの子供を授かったのだろうし、長所も短所もそれなりに知っているはず。法律上は他人なのだろうが、やはり、どうしても「他人」ではないのだ。
そうした微妙な心のやりとりを、自分の実体験と併せて視聴する人も多いのではなかろうか。だがアンナの視線は未来に向かっていて、マグヌスは過去を取り戻したいという気持ちを捨てることができない。その中での不思議な「同居」が、何とも深いコクで迫ってくる。アンナ役はサーガ・ガルザルスドッティル、マグヌス役はスベリル・グドナソン。「かすがい」というべき子供たちと、パンダという名の白黒犬はなんと、パルマソン家からの登場であるという。画面から伝わるintimateな雰囲気は、そこにも由来するのだろうか。
