ノスタルジックなスパイ劇！

「ゲーム・オブ・スローンズ」のデナーリス役で人気を博したエミリア・クラークが主演を務める最新スパイサスペンス・全8話が「WOWOWプレミア」枠にて日本初一挙放送。1970年代のモスクワを舞台に、CIA局員の夫を亡くした2人の妻が、スパイとなって危険なミッションに挑む。

1976年のクリスマス・イヴ。モスクワの米国大使館に潜伏するCIA局員のクリス（ルイス・ボイヤー）とトム（ジョン・マクミラン）は、KGBに正体がバレた工作員を逃がそうとするが、その工作員は殺される。その後、クリスの妻ビー（クラーク）とトムの妻トワイラ（ヘイリー・ルー・リチャードソン）は、小型飛行機の墜落が原因でクリスとトムが亡くなったと聞かされる。ビーとトワイラは夫たちの死の真相をつかむため、CIA本部に直談判し、表向きは大使館員として、裏ではスパイとして任務を遂行し始める。

トワイラ役のリチャードソンは、「ホワイト・ロータス／諸事情だらけのリゾートホテル」シーズン2でポーシャを演じた米国俳優。英国俳優のクラークとのケミストリーが見どころで、2人のバディ感には大いに惹きつけられる。「華麗なるペテン師たち」のエイドリアン・レスターらも共演している。

見どころ1：タイトルの「PONIES」の意味とは

タイトルの「PONIES」とは「調査対象外の人物」を意味する「パーソン・オブ・ノー・インタレスト」の頭文字を取った「PONI」の複数形。つまりビーとトワイラは、KGBがスパイだと疑わない調査対象外の人物で“取るに足らない存在”と思われているが、お互いの弱点を補い合いながらスパイの世界に飛び込む2人は魅力的だ。

見どころ2：70年代のモスクワを舞台に繰り広げられる、女性主導のスパイサスペンス

1970年代のスパイアクションを色濃く反映させたようなノスタルジックなムードの中で、堅物のビーと無鉄砲なトワイラという正反対のタイプの2人が、“素人スパイコンビ”として奮闘する姿は意外性があり、斬新でユーモラス。緊迫した冷戦下のモスクワを背景に、女性主導のスパイサスペンスが繰り広げられるのも新鮮だ。

注目キャスト：ビー・グラント（エミリア・クラーク）

ロシア語が堪能で、常に慎重に行動しようとする堅物。モスクワの米国大使館でタイピストとして働きながら、CIAの過酷なスパイ活動に足を踏み入れていく。クラークは膨大な量のロシア語のセリフに挑戦している。
