東京・京橋の国立映画アーカイブでは、毎年夏に開催している「こども映画館」を、2026年も7月24日より開催する。「こども映画館」は、こどもたちが映画館に集まり、みんなと一緒に大きなスクリーンを見つめる映画体験ができる企画で、上映前には作品の紹介や映画フィルムについての解説なども実施。映画という文化芸術の素晴らしさを大画面で体験することで、豊かな情操と高い映像理解能力（リテラシー）を育むことを目的としている。

ふしぎな世界を旅するアニメーションや最初のゴジラ、活弁・伴奏付の無声映画等幅広くラインナップ 前半2日間は、本の中の世界を旅する兄妹を描いた『バベルの本』や、海底から天空まで逃げた鰻と追いかけっこするミュージカルコメディ『てんまのとらやん』など、ふしぎな世界を旅するアニメーション短篇集と、誕生から70年以上を経て今なお人気を轟かせている日本発の怪獣の原点、1954年の『ゴジラ』を上映。
後半2日間は活弁・生演奏つきで、蒸気機関車が大活躍で鉄道好きにも嬉しい、喜劇王バスター・キートンの『キートン将軍』や、社会性のあるテーマを盛り込みながらも、無邪気な子どもたちと可愛い犬との交流が楽しい『明日天氣になぁれ』といった無声映画をお届けする。
『バベルの本』
お子さんにはフィルムでできたしおりや、視覚玩具ソーマトロープのキットのほか、映画鑑賞ノート「映画きろくノート」をプレゼント！「映画きろくノート」に使用されたイラストは、CGクリエイターのにじたろう氏による、当館オリジナルのデザインとなっている。映画を観るだけではなく、映画を観終わった後も、作ったり考えたりしながら映画の魅力を更に深堀りしてもらえるプレゼントを用意。
こども映画館は、毎年ロビーに手作りの飾りつけをして観客を迎えているが、今年は更に、上映作品のポスターのほか、『バベルの本』のアニメーション制作時に使用されたオブジェも展示。上映当日のみの展示となるので、お見逃しなく！
