モーターマガジン社が2026年2月17日に発行したムック本「GTメモリーズ15 PF60／JT150・190 ジェミニZZ／ジェミニイルムシャー」が好評だ。ここでは、そのダイジェストをお届けしよう。今回は、歴代ジェミニのシャシとパワートレーンについて紹介する。FR時代のダブルウイッシュボーンとクロスレシオMT、FF時代の名門チューナーによるサスペンションの味付けなど、モデルライフを通しての革新性が目立つものとなっている。
PF60ジェミニZZ：すべてにおいてスパルタンな仕様
アンダーステアからオーバーステアへの挙動変化は激しい。ここをねじ伏せて乗りこなすことこそジェミニZZ／Rの走りの楽しさと言える。
PF60ジェミニZZのシャシを見ていこう。まず動力を伝えるドライブトレーンから。トランスミッションは5速MTのみだが、2種類のギアレシオから選べるのが特徴だ。標準タイプはスプリントレシオという通常仕様のギア比で、発進加速と2・3速のトルク＆パワーを重視したタイプ。もうひとつGTレシオというクロスレシオが選べた。これは、全体的にハイギヤードとなるが、1・2・3速ギア比が4速寄りとなっている。ファイナルドライブはともに3.909と同様だ。
リアデファレンシャルは4ピニオンのリミテッドスリップデフ（LSD）をオプションで装着される。そのためにSOHCエンジン搭載車からデフ自体の容量を拡大している。LSDの差動制限の効きも強力で十分な駆動力を確保している。
サスペンションはフロント：ダブルウイシュボーン、リア：トルクチューブ付き3リンクというものだ。この設定は1974年10月に登場したPF50ベレットジェミニから引き継ぐ、かなり古典的なスタイルと言える。率直にいうと時代遅れになりつつあった。
リアはラテラルロッドを含めて3リンク。デフの回転反力はトルクチューブを通じてリアフロアで抑える。これが独特の挙動を生み出していた。
フロントサスペンションにダブルウイッシュボーンを採用したことは、スポーティさを考慮したもので間違いない。対地キャンバーを適正なものに保ち、操縦性を向上する。ただし、アッパーアームの上からフロントフェンダー上部にショックアブソーバーをつなげるという独自の形態のため、サスペンションストロークを長く確保できないというデメリットがある。
リアサスペンションは独特のものだった。構成は2本のトレーリングリンクで縦方向の位置を決め、ラテラルリンクで横方向の位置決めをする。ただしこれだけでは、駆動力の発生にともなう反力でデフ自体を回転させてしまいトラクションを正確に伝えることができない。
そこで、リアデフからリアボディ下部までのプロペラシャフトを覆うトルクチューブでつなげ、デフの回転を抑える構造とした。言い換えれば4リンク（＋ラテラルリンク）の2本のアッパーリングをトルクチューブに置き換えた構成といえる。操縦性は基本はアンダーステア。しかし、それを腕でねじ伏せ、テールをコントロールしてコーナーを抜けることに面白みもあった。
