『ブゴニア』
Y・ランティモス監督のアプローチと
物語のぶっ飛び感が鮮やかにマッチ

あらすじ・概要
製薬会社のCEOであるミシェルが誘拐される。犯人は彼女の会社で働くテディと、その従弟のドン。陰謀論にとりつかれたテディはミシェルを宇宙人だと信じ込んでおり、仲間と共に地球から出て行くように説得する。
正直に告白すると、これまでランティモス監督の作品を心から楽しんだことはなかった。必要以上に物議を醸す演出を試みるし、テーマに対して手の込んだスタイルを駆使しまくって…と、確かに芸術表現としては独創的も、つねに違和感が心のしこりとして残った。ところが今回は描かれる物語の“ぶっとび感”と彼のアプローチが鮮やかにマッチ。悪趣味がそのまま通用する世界が構築されたので、逆に入り込みやすかった。この監督らしい、度を越したおぞましい描写、音と映像のドッキリ効果も盛り込まれつつ、超衝撃の瞬間だけは遠景でみせたりと、その節度も美しい。
劇中で実際に頭を丸刈りにされるなど、オスカー候補となったエマ・ストーンの体当たり演技が見ものだが、陰謀論にとりつかれた男として登場するジェシー・プレモンスが、正気と混乱のギリギリを巧妙に表現し、その危うさが作品全体を支配する。何かと陰謀論が世の中を騒がす今の時代にぴったりだし、原案となった韓国映画『地球を守れ！』を未見であれば、詳細を知らずに本作に接することを強くオススメしたい。

インドに渡って来た難民一家が
善人すぎて？ピンチを呼ぶ人情コメディ

あらすじ・概要
貧困を抜け出すためスリランカからインドに密入国したダースを家長とする一家。自分たちの素性を隠して生活を始めるが、彼らの言葉は独特なタミル語で、ちぐはぐなやり取りを交わしながら地域に溶け込んでいく。
インド映画だが、主人公となる難民一家は隣国スリランカ出身の設定。この一家が祖国の悲惨な生活に耐えかねてインドに密入国を図ったところからお話がスタート。義理の兄の手引きで住居を見つけるが、義兄は一家になるべく近隣の人たちと会話しないように厳重注意する。一家が話す言葉はこの地域では使われない言い回しがあるので、すぐに素性がばれてしまうというのだ。だが、スリランカ人の特性か、善人で人懐っこい彼らは、どんどん隣人と交流することに。果たして一家はインドに留まることができるのか？
昨今世界的な問題になっている「難民」をユーモアと感動で描き、本国では新人監督の低予算映画ながら予想を覆すヒットになったという。社会的な問題を提議しつつ市井の人々の暮らしを温かく見つめる人情コメディで、時に不器用に見える演出も例えば昔の香港映画等を思い起こさせる親近感がある。テロ事件を追う警察に容疑者と疑われ、絶体絶命に陥った一家の運命は？ 笑いと感動だけでなく最後までハラハラさせる脚本もなかなか巧妙。

『HELP/復讐島』
いかにもサム・ライミな
「ヤバい部下VS クソ上司」の孤島大バトル

あらすじ・概要
自分を蔑ろにした若き社長と出張中、飛行機事故に遭い孤島に漂着したリンダ。サバイバル番組への出演が夢だった彼女はその状況を満喫するが、社長はそうはいかない。ふたりだけの島でそれぞれの思惑がぶつかり合う。
サム・ライミが最新作『HELP/復讐島』でレイチェル・マクアダムスを起用したのはもちろん前作『ドクター・ストレンジ/マルチバース・オブ・マッドネス』があったからなのだろうが、本作のマクアダムスはまるで別人のような危険人物。かわいいという印象が強い彼女のその期待を裏切るヤバいキャラクターを演じている。
もちろん、孤島で一緒にサバイバルせざるを得なくなる上司はクソ野郎ではある。観客もこんなヤツを助ける必要はないという気持ちにもなる。が、サバイバル生活が長くなればなるほどマクアダムスのアブノーマルぶりに拍車がかかる。たとえ仕事が出来たとしても文明社会では浮きまくっていた彼女が自然体でいられるのはこの文化果つる孤島。だったらここでずーっと暮らしたい。クソ上司を話し相手にして。
彼女の膨らんで行く狂気にハラハラし、クソ上司の失墜を楽しみ、ライミらしい過剰演出＆スプラッタ的大流血に大笑いする。最低限の要素だけでここまでエンタメしてくれるライミはやっぱり凄いと思う。
