スティーブン・キング幻の処女作「死のロングウォーク」を初映像化した『ロングウォーク』（原題『THE LONG WALK』25年９月12日全米公開）が6月に日本公開されることが決定した。併せて、鬼少佐が若者たちを追い詰める特報映像とティザービジュアルが解禁された。

戦慄の中行われる極限のデスレース 1970年代から小説家としてデビューして以降、世に送り出した作品の数多くが映像化されてきた、言わずとしれた“ホラーの帝王”スティーブン・キング。筆舌に尽くしがたいその斬新なアイデアやストーリーテリングは確かなもので、21世紀現在でも原作を基にした新作映画やリメイク作品が度々発表されている。そんなスティーブン・キングが大学在学中にリチャード・バックマンの名義を使用して執筆した作品であり、完成した時期からすると1974年「キャリー」よりも前に存在していた事実上の⻑編初執筆作とも言われている「死のロングウォーク」がついに映像化される。
監督は「ハンガーゲーム」シリーズを手掛けるフランシス・ローレンス。社会全体を支配し、この“競技”を執り仕切る鬼少佐役を「スター・ウォーズ」シリーズのルーク・スカイウォーカー役で知られるマーク・ハミルが演じた。極限状態に放り込まれる若者たちとして、今後の活躍も期待させる大注目の若手俳優が集結した。
原作「死のロングウォーク」は、スティーブン・キングの数ある小説の中でも、代表作「IT」を超えるほどの完成度を誇る、まさに原点にして最高傑作と称される一作。そんな小説を初映画化した本作の特報映像は、「歩みを止めたら即死」という衝撃的な言葉の提示から始まる。マーク・ハミル演じる少佐が声を荒げて参加者の若者たちに無慈悲なルールを告げる。「時速４．８kmを維持すること」「下回ると警告が始まり、警告３つで即失格(即死)」「コースから逃げても失格」「最後の一人になるまでただひらすらに“歩け”」。
装甲車に囲まれ、銃を向けられながら歩き続ける50人の若者たち。一見、のどかな田舎道での行進に見えるその光景の裏には、休息も、睡眠も、救いも存在しない。靴紐を結ぶ一瞬の躊躇が命取りとなり、逃げ出そうとすれば容赦なく銃声が響く。限界を超え、泡を吹き、痙攣しながら崩れ落ちていく参加者たちの姿が、観客に戦慄を与える。
勝者は“最後の一人”のみ。ゴールすら存在しないこのデスゲームで、若者たちは何を求め、何を捨てるのか。彼らが命を賭けてまで切に願うものとは何なのか。

あわせて解禁されたティザービジュアルには、すでに限界を迎えながらも、見えないゴールに向かって歩く参加者たち姿が切り取られている。さらに背後には、彼らを逃げ場なく見据えている少佐の存在を象徴するかのように掲げられた「歩くか死か」の文字。そして本作の根本となる大会の４つのルール①「時速４．８キロをキープすること」②「速度が下回ると警告開始」③「３つの警告で即死」④「最後の1人になるまで、歩き続けること」が参加者たちの歩く道を妨げるかのように立ちふさがっている。作品の本質を凝縮したかのようなティザービジュアルは、期待と不安を強烈に煽り立てるものに仕上がっている。
【STORY】
