人気ドラマシリーズ「ダウントン・アビー」の映画第3弾『Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale』（原題）が、『ダウントン・アビー／グランドフィナーレ』の邦題で1月16日(金)よりTOHOシネマズ 日比谷ほかにて全国公開されることが決定した。
ダウントン・アビーとの、最後のひとときがやってくる——
「ダウントン・アビー」は、5年にわたり世界200カ国以上で放送された、英国ドラマの金字塔ともいえるドラマシリーズ。20世紀初頭のイギリス・ヨークシャーを舞台に、貴族クローリー家とその屋敷で働く使用人たちの人生を描く。1912年のタイタニック号沈没から第一次世界大戦を経て、時代の変化と英国貴族たちのドラマを優雅に映し出してきた。
緻密な脚本、華麗な美術・衣装、昨年逝去したマギー・スミスをはじめ、イギリスを代表する俳優陣の名演が高く評価され、エミー賞・ゴールデングローブ賞など、数々の栄誉を獲得。2010年9月の放送開始以来2015年のシーズン6までの全52エピソードをもって幕を閉じるも、2019年には劇場版として復活し、社会現象を巻き起こした。
映画第3弾となる今作『ダウントン・アビー／グランドフィナーレ』。脚本はシリーズの生みの親ジュリアン・フェローズ、監督は前作『ダウントン・アビー／新たなる時代へ』に続きサイモン・カーティスが担当する。時代は1930年代に突入。ロイヤル・アスコット、チェルシー・フラワー・ショー、ヘンリー・レガッタが行われる社交界の真骨頂“ロンドン・シーズン”を舞台に、近代社会に足を踏み入れたクローリー家と使用人たちのドラマが描かれる。シリーズ最大のスキャンダルが暴かれ、ダウントン・アビーにも存続の危機が迫るという。
2008年のTVシリーズの企画から「ダウントン・アビー」の制作チームを率いてきたプロデューサーのギャレス・ニームによれば、「先代伯爵夫人バイオレットの並外れた人生に美しい幕を引いた第2作で完結とせず、第3作では、他の登場人物たちの人生に深く踏み込み、次の世代へ『ダウントン』がどう受け継がれていくかを描いた」とのこと。バイオレットを演じたマギー・スミスが第2作と第3作の間に逝去したことで、特別な感傷のある作品ともなっている。
解禁されたポスタービジュアルには、夕日を背景に屹立する荘厳なダウントン・アビーと、真っ赤なドレスをまとった長女メアリーを中心に、クローリー家と使用人たちが大集合。どこか感傷的な雰囲気がただよい、「ついにお別れの時が参りました。共に過ごした日々を胸に、最後のひとときをご一緒ください。」のコピーとあわせ、まるで日本中のダウントニアン（「ダウントン・アビー」シリーズファンの呼称）へお別れを告げに集まったかのよう。
同じく解禁された予告は、美しく着飾ったクローリー家がロイヤル・アスコット（イギリス王室が主催する競馬開催）の会場に現れるシーンから華々しくスタート。

時代は1930年に突入。上流階級が集い贅を極めるこの季節、長女メアリーが真っ赤なドレスに身を包み舞踏会で踊っている。しかし彼女の離婚スキャンダルが報じられ、会場は騒然。その場でメアリーたちは追いだされてしまう。
「ダウントン・アビーの未来は、今やメアリーにかかっている」というグランサム伯爵の一言と、今は亡き先代伯爵夫人バイオレットの肖像。一族が時代の変化の中で、決断を下す時が迫っている—。「すべての思い出を胸に」というメッセージ、屋敷の壁面にキスを送る伯爵の姿には、とうとう訪れるダウントン・アビーとの別れの瞬間を予感させる。
