Living my life slowly – from the southern foot of Mt. Yatsugatake Hello everyone To those who always support us and those who are watching for the first time, Thank you for visiting my channel. My name is Yukkuri and I live on the southern foot of Mt. Yatsugatake. It’s been 21 years since I moved here alone from Tokyo. I live in a small house with six cats. I would be happy if you could take a look at my rural life. One day in mid-October… I went to my favorite bakery, “Sora to Mugi to,” with my friend Kirako. Although it has only just opened, There were already several customers inside, and the store was bustling. (No customers are visible in the video.) This bakery has closed its business in Yatsugatake for the season, but we look forward to reopening next spring. After buying bread… I went to “Kaoru Confectionery Shop.” I’m here to try the marron parfait, which is only available for pre-order for three days. The shop is run by a female owner alone. Kirako is a regular here, but this was my first time here. Cookies, ice cream, chestnut cream, granola, etc. Take a look at these artistic parfaits, all handmade. For someone like me who loves sweets, it’s a blissful experience and very delicious. This dog is the store’s mascot dog. On the day we visited, tea was served for free (it goes perfectly with the parfait). I was able to talk a lot with the female owner, It’s a restaurant I’d like to visit again. Thank you, Kirako, for introducing me to it. October 20th, from Yatsugatake Club. Until October 21st, at this gallery, There was a design exhibition by Maiko Kawakami, a famous Japanese actress and cat lover. Being a cat lover and cat owner, of course I went to see it. In addition to her acting career, she is active in many fields, including glass art, illustration, and weaving. I was envious that God could give two or even three gifts. Maiko Kawakami is also famous for her cat rescue activities (and has been making glass art since 1992). She also runs a general store called “SWEDEN GRACE” in Tokyo. She has been holding solo exhibitions as an artist since 2005. There is also an adoption event for rescued cats on the second floor of the general store. SWEDEN GRACE also sells Swedish miscellaneous goods. It is well known in Japan that Maiko Kawakami was born in Sweden (her parents are Japanese, but they worked as lighting designers in Sweden). She also runs the YouTube channel “Maiko Kawakami: Every Day is Cat Day.” As someone who is fascinated by cats, I was happy to meet this person as we have a few things in common. Speaking of which, I also have a cat with the same name as “Guri,” the cat that is special to Kawakami Maiko. I bought a mini framed piece and had it signed on the back. Tsume-san has been watching my videos for a while now. She’s like an older sister to me and we’ve become good friends. As a textile artist, he is also in high demand from galleries all over Japan. Tsume-san holds exhibitions and sales at this gallery several times a year, When I come here from Nagoya where I live, They always contact me and we have lunch together. Each piece that Tsume creates is one of a kind. Tsume-san is a person with mysterious powers, Being around you gives me energy. But she doesn’t seem to be very aware of it herself. She may seem normal at first glance, but I think she is a person who can bring healing. Thank you for today, Tsume-san. I look forward to seeing you again next year. Well, digging holes in the garden has become a daily routine for me lately. I didn’t change the soil when I moved here 21 years ago, so I left the red soil as it was and just added a little potting soil. The plant growth was not great. So I decided to dig deep enough, Add potting soil, leaf mold, and bark fertilizer, I will plant some perennial plants here that I have left in pots. In this area alone, we put in about 60 bags of potting soil, each containing 20 to 25 liters. I bought the bark fertilizer, but the leaf mold is homemade. I will plant four types of Deutzia trees here, which are in pots and not in very good condition. Since the potted tree has been around for many years, roots have grown out of the bottom of the pot, making it difficult to pull it out. I finally got it out. No matter how many bags of potting soil I have, it’s never enough. Next is planting perennials. This is the end of the land clearing for this year, we’ll do our best next year. And I’m not sure if it’s okay to sow seeds since it’s about to get cold. It is safer to sow in the spring, In the cold climates around here, if you sow them in the spring, even if they sprout, they will not grow and flower until next year, so it takes a span of one year. I used some of the seeds I purchased and tried sowing them in the fall. This is a clove plant with beautiful light blue flowers. Then I plan to carve out an ice blue, which is an annual plant that is sensitive to the cold, and keep it inside the house over the winter. It would be a shame to let such beautiful plants wither and die in the cold. The garden is starting to look a little lonely, so I planted some violas. I also planted some spring-flowering bulbs. The seeds that were sown have sprouted. I’ll replant it in a pot, but will it actually grow? Of course, I’ll overwinter it indoors. And the yard work continues. October 25th and 26th… The annual Country Festival was held in Moegi Village, Kiyosato. Unfortunately it was rainy and cold on both days, Even so, the event was crowded with many visitors. I was at work, of course, but I popped in for a quick look during my lunch break. This is the booth of OLD AGE, a small hotel that we are always grateful to. The burgers here are so good I look forward to them every year. They are also being sold at the general store “Mayfair” where I work. The female owner of Sanosuke, a popular ramen shop in Kiyosato, is selling hot dogs in a pizza oven instead of ramen. There will also be a tasting and sale of the popular winery “Shirayuri Brewery.” I was also very happy that so many people came to watch my videos. Now, at home. Autumn is synonymous with apples, a fruit that is instantly associated with this season. So I decided to make a simple apple cake recipe. However, as always, this isn’t a recipe I came up with. I wish I had a bountiful apple tree in my garden. I think it’s something I dream about every year. My garden is in partial shade so I’ve given up on that. So I buy apples at the store. This cake is from a very simple recipe I saw in a short video. If you underestimate it thinking it’s easy, you may make a mistake. I’ve been humming along to the process so far, I thought it would be easy, but When I poured the batter into the mold, I thought it was strange because it was too thick. I realized that I had forgotten to add the 100ml of milk I had prepared to the batter, so I just poured it directly into the mold and mixed it. I also forgot to put butter on the apples before baking. The cake didn’t have the rich flavor of butter, but the sweetness of the apples made it okay. The other day, I received some lovely tableware and tea from a viewer. And today, I used it for the first time. The black tea is a blend of tea leaves from Kagoshima Prefecture, lemon balm, lemon peel, cornflower, and safflower. Another failure was I forgot to sprinkle powdered sugar on the baked cake. It looks much more delicious with powdered sugar on top. The tableware I received is perfect for my taste, and the tea I drink from it is delicious. The tea was fragrant and surprisingly tasty. It’s a moment when I feel glad that I’m making videos, as I received such a wonderful gift from a viewer. And this is a mini picture frame by Kawakami Maiko that I bought at the Yatsugatake Club.
