西島秀俊×グイ・ルンメイ、英語で会話する不穏な冒頭10分解禁！映画『Dear Stranger／ディア・ストレンジャー』本編冒頭映像

God responded to this challenge by separating our languages and dividing humans. They couldn’t understand each other, so they couldn’t work together. The tower’s construction was stopped and it collapsed. The tower of Babel was the birth of architecture and also first ruins. In this sense, ruins could actually be thought of as acts of God. This Japanese word means the remains of total breakdown which brings to mind a static image of death. ミニシアターランキング、実写映画初登場1位！西島秀俊×グイ・ルンメイ×真利子哲也、日×台×米 合作で送る 極限のヒューマンサスペンス『Dear Stranger／ディア・ストレンジャー』本編映像冒頭10分解禁!!
寡作で知られる真利子哲也監督の6年ぶりの新作であることに加え、⻄島秀俊、グイ・ルンメイといった日本と台湾、それぞれの国を代表する俳優2人が夫婦役で出演していることも相まって、映画ファンから大きな期待が寄せられていたことを表す結果となった。
SNSでは映画を観た観客から「息子誘拐で噴出する秘密と心の深淵…不穏な映像と音楽、情動揺さぶる傑作！」「これまでの作品とは全く違う、静謐で実験的なテイストに驚かされる。全編NYロケの美しい映像に、物語の空白を埋めるように張り巡らされた心理描写と多層的なメタファー。観客に解釈を委ねるスタイルが、何度も観たくなる中毒性につながっている。」などといった感想が上がり、予想できない物語展開だけでなく、作品が孕む高い批評性が好評を得ている。
これを受け、9月26日から本作の上映館数が当初の20館より約60館に拡大されることが決定！また合わせて、本編映像の冒頭10分を解禁！
映像の冒頭では、⻄島演じる賢治とグイ・ルンメイ扮するその妻・ジェーン、4歳になる1人息子・カイの、平凡だがどこにでもいる仲睦まじい家族の姿が見て取れる。出身国が異なる夫婦は、共に母国語ではない英語で会話をし、夫の賢治は大学で、「人々の言語を乱して互いに分かり合えなくなるようにした」という旧約聖書に登場する「バベルの塔」を引き合いに、専門とする「廃墟」の意味合いについての教鞭をとっている。
一方のジェーンは、息子のカイと共に、両親が経営をする雑貨店の店頭に立つのだが、現在NYで頻発している強盗の被害にあってしまう。警察と賢治が店に到着し、幸いケガ人が誰も出なかったことを確認した後、賢治とジェーンは防犯のために銃を保持するべきか話し合う。自家用車で帰路につく3人。油の滑りが悪いのか、車はキリキリと不快な音を出しながら、夜道を駆け抜けていく。家に着いた3人は、すっかり寝入ってしまったカイを気遣い、育児を分担する夫婦の姿が見て取れる。カイを寝室に連れていくことを賢治に任せたジェーンは1人自室にこもり、人形劇の練習に没頭する姿が映しされる。
多文化、多言語、分かり合うこと、廃墟、銃、音響、人形を使った身体表現など、本編が始まってからわずか10分間に出てくるこれらのモチーフは後々、物語が進むにつれ重要な要素として機能していく。
『Dear Stranger／ディア・ストレンジャー』は2025年9月1日公開
