Once a champion, always a champion, Swerve Strickland. Whose house? Swerve’s house. You’re watching True Heel Heat podcast. Hey guys, it’s Rosa and welcome to True Heel Heat. What’s up, guys? It’s Who Machine, Mr. GMSI himself, Brian Cage, and you’re watching True Hill Heat. Who better? Nobody. Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Hello, hello, hello. It is me. It is me, your true hill phenom sp3, and we are live on the True Hill Heat YouTube and Facebook for our Ring of Honor, Death Before Dishonor 2025 preview, breaking down and predicting the card for this Friday’s show from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. And to do that, I am joined by the only other person crazy enough to talk about a Ring of Honor pay-per-view days before the show, knowing that Tony Khan will just go on social media on Friday morning, Friday afternoon, and announce the whole rest half of the card. It is the one and only, the great co-host from over on Fightful on Tuesdays, on Fridays, any day she can show up because she watches it all. It is Kate of Fightful. How are you doing SP3? I am good. I am better than Dustin Rhodess in the at least in the knee department who has been the main character of our weight for some reason. And uh that’s put us in in quite a little pickle as we’re headed to this pay-per-view. I feel like they hit such a home run in Texas and then per usual Ro has carried absolutely no momentum out of it. But uh I’m always excited because the pay-per-views always show out. So, I’m I’m excited to talk about what we know and to also speculate on what we don’t know. Obviously, the answer is put Nigel McInness in every match. So, I mean, after you saw his performance at Forbidden Door, why wouldn’t you? Why wouldn’t you? I was just the happiest little Christmas tree, SV3. I was just in all of my glory. But, uh, this being at the 2300 Arena, I think, is also something that’s that’s fun. So, I’m sure the vibes in there are going to be fantastic. Uh, looking forward to what they give us because even when the builds are weak, the matches deliver with Ro. So, I did want to ask you since you brought it up, you know, you are the number one misters out there. Miss Pure Rules. So, how was it for you watching Zack Saber Jr. versus Nigel McGinness at Forbidden Door IWGP World Heavyweight Championship matchup in in London in the O2 Arena at that as well. Was that your match of the year? Um, in my heart it definitely was. It was it was really really great and it meant a lot to me. Like there’s certain matches that before they even start just like the contributions of the people doing it uh have contributed so much to my fandom that like it it meant so much there. But I there were so many things about it that I loved. I think the spot that everyone took away from it was the sneaky lariat that Nigel pulled off where ZSJ took a face bump just just eating it with his face. But um just some really really fun like and I I loved that match because I felt like it was everything it was. They did every spot that involved the word Europe and London that they possibly could. They did so much like I love that it started with so much risk control in the beginning and then just blossomed into uh what it did because it felt like they were in Zach’s world and Nigel’s world. And um what I’ve loved so much with Nigel is this isn’t like some pity nostalgia run for this guy. He’s still really really really good and part of the reason is his devotion to this style. I think that’s why he’s able to do it at the age he’s at and why it’s been like riding a a bike a little bit for him is just because it is so focused on fundamentals and being clever in the ring as much as anything. So, uh for me watching this match that meant so much, but seeing Nigel’s whole run, it’s not like, oh, I ah man, you know, he doesn’t have it anymore, but it’s so nice to see him back in the ring. It’s like, no, he’s he’s legit, man. He’s he’s still throwing lariats that are going to knock you out. So, I had a a blast watching that. It was fantastic. Yeah. I don’t know about you, but uh when I think about, you know, great wrestling matches, you also have to think about like the soundtrack to it. And when I think about like Brian Danielson versus Zack Saber Jr. from Wrestle Dream 2023. I think that as memorable as their two performances, it’s a performance of Nigel McInness and John Moxley on commentary that puts it over the top. And I felt the same kind of feelings listening to Walker Stewart and Brian Danielson talk about Nigel McInness versus Zack Saver Jr. I was like those are the those that’s the perfect commentary team for anything in AW but definitely this matchup. I mean, Walker Stewart, a young phenom, unbelievable. Unbelievable. And coming off of the G1, I don’t think people realize what a heavy commentary lift a G1 is, too. Like, he’s just fantastic. And then to have Danielson um him pointing out like, oh, how the turntables, right? Like how he’s seeing now Nigel McInness fighting for a major title in the Reagan on commentary. him not being able to help but love that Nigel was doing it I thought was actually so sweet and then of course what he added from having history with both of these guys being devoted to a similar style um just talking about I I loved how he kept calling Zach scientific I thought that was such a great way to describe what Zach does so I’m completely with you and I loved Walker talking about the the differences between Nigel and Zach too because I I think it gave a framework to people who maybe aren’t as disgustingly obsessed with this style of professional wrestling as I am, like a really nice reference point to see what these guys do. So, it it was fantastic. And you’re right, the the call on all of these um with Zach and and Brian, I found out who Vulcan was through Nigel’s commentary, and that sent me down like a Rings Vulcan versus Tamora trilogy hole that I didn’t even know existed. So, like I’m I love when great commentary makes the colors that are being unfolded in front of you so much more vivid. And that’s exactly what I felt like Brian Danielson and Walker Stewart accomplished uh in in that match as well. What a what a blast. It was certainly my match of the night and very special place in my heart for sure. Definitely definitely understand where you’re coming from and of course we appreciate y’all for joining for dishonor. We we always go off. We always go off. Appreciate y’all for watching us. That is a trap as a lady to talk about banana lovers day. I’m just going to let that one sit and say same to you, sir. But I, as a woman on the internet, am not uh not going to be saying that phrase out loud too many times in a row for fear of it getting clipped, but probably already got clipped. Uh Franc says, “What’s up, SV3?” Hey, Kate in chat. We also got uh Clown says, “I do love a banana cream pie.” So, thanks, Zach. more things that I will not be narrating. I’ll let SP3 take that one. Hey, this is what I’m here for, to read comments. Great 30 seconds says, “Good afternoon, SP3, Kate, Ed Chad. Thank you for joining us today, guys. Remember to drop the thumbs up. Remember to show your support with a super chat donation or if you’re watching us on demand, comment down below and let us know what you think about this Friday’s show, Ring of Honor, Death Before Dishonor.” And if you’re watching after Tony Khan basically spams like a hundred matches on the show, let us know in the comments section as well. But Gate, here we are. Another Ring of Honor pay-per-view week. I think the last time we did this was Supercard of Honor in July and I think we did also two days before the show and I think we had five or six matches. So, this is this is uh a case of oh, he he’s extra lazy because he had a pay-per-view the week before and he gave us four. Yeah. It’s um it’s so frustrating because it always feels like there’s a lot of momentum coming out of pay-per-views. Like, if you had told me allin weekend your favorite match was Teesha versus Bandido, I would not have argued with you. Like, that was a an absolute absolute masterpiece. So, because the inring always delivers, you can’t help as a fan but be like, “Oh, sick.” What’s next? Like what are the next stories for these guys? Obviously, we knew Tekasha was going to go do the G1. I am now on the train of have him win the C2, challenge Okata, become the best tournament wrestler alive, and dethrone Okata from that title, too. That’s where my head’s at with that. Um, and Bod Bandido was now one half of the tag team champion. So even within what you’re showing me on screen, Ro has been further deescalated as a nonpriority to this company. But like am I going to be mad seeing Bandido wrestle for 17 minutes against someone great? Like no. Like of you know what I mean? Like I’m never going to be sad by what they give me in the ring. But it is tough to sit here and like it’s it’s our job to do predictions of matches that a aren’t announced or b are just kind of thrown together. Um especially because it’s not even one of those things where it’s two days before and you’re like oh I bet after tomorrow’s TV this that and the other will get announced. They’re just going to be like six luchadors are in this ladder match or whatever. like they’re not going to there’s not even like builtout stories probably leading to a ton that’s going to get announced after tomorrow. It’s just going to be a hodge podge. So, we will do our best as we always do. Fidious SP3 and myself and it’s it’s a very frustrating. It’s, you know, all the all the circumstances surrounding this show is, you know, stuff they can’t control. Dustin Rhodess getting knee replacement surgery. uh Nick Wayne breaking his foot uh coming one week after Forbidden Door. You can control that, but uh they they had it scheduled for I think two weeks after Forbidden Door and then it got pushed to this week because Tony has a wedding to go to that week. So these are these are actual reasons people. I don’t I don’t you know it must be somebody really important because I’ll say that much of what I know of Tony Cotton which is literally all peripheral. Um that guy would get married on a Wednesday and go to Dynamite if he had to. So it must be something very special. But he’s like after party at Dynamite maybe. That’s the reception. Um but I I what is frustrating is this ribbon door placement was just bad, right? like it it’s on the heels of the G1 which handicapped a lot didn’t handicap you giving me Kyler Kyle Fletcher and Despie you could have done that but whatever um and with Ro death before Dishonor here like unless you were going to do something where the implications of one affected the other there that’s not the best way to to go about stuff but that being said I don’t know where else you really put it because they’ve already moved stuff around and they have a pretty busy fall. Like if you are going to be doing the Continental Classic in the fall, which I’m just going to assume because that’s the precedence that that has been set. Plus, football picks up. So, you’re then giving an ailing product more to compete with. It’s it’s a little bit tricky in that way. What they could control is not making a 56-year-old man the main character of your program. And that part, that part you could control. And they’ve also had enough time now that they could have done something about it. Like that that’s my frustration is we’re at this point and that happened like six weeks ago or whatever. That was that was at least a month ago, right? It was four weeks ago. It was July the July 31st collision is the matchup with Kyle Fletcher and Dustin Row. So Okay. So about about a month. Yeah, a month. But they but the thing is you’re you’re absolutely right is because they’ve they film matches at their recent tapings. They could have done stuff. They could have shot an angle that set something else because like you said, a 56y old was the main character holding two titles hostage and not defending them there either really. Like not with consistency. So because he wanted to win a third belt for no reason. Well, for the saddest reason honestly like Yeah, I know. It was it was tough to collect the people after Adam Cole, you know, got injured. I understand all of that. All fine and dandy. I’m glad it’s over already. 56year-old belt collector roads was not something we needed. Like you’re you’re 100% on about that. I I’m getting frustrated by this narrative that it’s like, well, what were they to do? Because I I see that a lot now. Yeah. Um like even the perfect example, John Cena heel turd, right? Well, the the Rock left him high and dry. You had months, though. You had months to have John Cena say, “I landed myself with The Rock because I’m [ __ ] off to Hollywood after this and he’s the biggest name in Hollywood.” That’s it. That’s all it would have taken. You had months. Um, and honestly, like WWE faced this with Liv Morgan, right? They made her the center of like four women’s stories and she got injured and the evolution build fell apart. like it’s a it’s a high-risk thing to do if you care about the promotion. They don’t care about this promotion, so it’s it’s a little lower risk cuz they weren’t doing anything with him anyway. Uh it was for the love of Texas and it then continued past it. The reports were that the story between Dustin Rhodess and Sam Guavvara and the infantry was not over and Scott Shane Taylor Promotions wasn’t over. So that’s what I kind of weep for is is that aspect of it because if they were gonna finally flip the titles here, that would have been a nice moment. Okay, so before we get into the title things, we might as well talk about this whole title situation because we’re not even sure that there’s going to be new champions crowned on this show because Ring of Honor has a habit of just letting titles linger on people that are injured. Do do I do I not remember freaking Wheeler Uda holding the Pure title hostage for six months while he was injured and then like we don’t know Red Velvet’s timeline but they immediately got an interim champ there. Like that the inconsistency also drives me crazy with that. Um, but when it’s two titles that are affected and also like Sabi Guavara hasn’t exactly been lighting the worlds on fire, but are you just going to leave him hanging out to dry too? Like it it’s a it’s a weird thing. I actually I see this this chat you pulled up. Three belts Dustin Rhodess was great. It’s great if you’re not a Ring of Honor fan and you are a Dustin Rhodess fan. Yeah, if you’re just a Dustin Rose fan who never watches Ring of Honor, it’s Yeah, it’s it’s great for you. It’s great. And like I feel like the plan was always to do this with Dustin and Fletcher from the perspective of like the Adam Cole situation. Yeah. It felt like let’s give him a feelood moment and then we’ll have Kyle Kyle Fletcher beat the crap out of Dustin. So I I feel like that part wasn’t affected by the injury situation. So that that much I don’t mind. Like if you want to give him a feel-good moment to just later transition it to Kyle Flesher, that’s fine by me. But they have completely hamstrung Ro with this stuff. And they’ve made no plans to address it, which is very maddening. Do you think we’re going to get some like survival of the fittest tag, whatever the [ __ ] I I think for the I think for um maybe for the TV title to determine a interim TV champion because we also got the the Nick Wayne foot injury, right? So, I think I think they might crown like an interim TV champion on this card and it’ll probably be through Survival of the Fitness where they could put like your AR Foxes, your Adam Purist, your you could they can throw a whole bunch of randoms in there. Put hologram so we know who’s going to win. Um, and yeah, and then for the tag team titles, um, what should they do? Maybe like a four-way. Maybe like a four-way. Maybe they start a tournament because that would eat up some of the card too if they just did like true that they had to have some direction going to TV with it. They could do it throughout the whole night. We could do they could do like uh four four first round matchups. They could do all four on the pre-show. So the pre-show actually matters for once and then the the main card has the the final three matches. That’s actually not a terrible idea. I kind of liked that. Yo, that that’s how you booked the whole show. I just booked I just booked I just booked seven matches for them. We got We got the pre-show. We got the main card. Boom. Perfect. Do they have the tag teams to do it is the question, I guess. That is a better question cuz I think I think with like the six-man tag team titles, the the solution is easy. And they kind of showed this to us on last week’s Ring of Honor where they had Sammy replace Dustin with the Von Eric. So just do that with the six-man tag team titles. You could do the Von Erics or Sammy and one of the Von Erics as one of the teams in the tag team tournament. So Sammy still has a chance to reclaim the titles that he never really truly lost. Then you got the infantry. Um, you got Top Flight. I was going to say you could pull Top Flight back down. You got crew. You could throw you could throw crew. You could throw GYV in. You know what I mean? Like if you’re making it a tournament, you could open that up to some of the lesser you Dark Orderm and the the Fat House. Your favorites. What about beef? What about the workhorsemen? Did we say the workhorse? Beef just came back. Beef just came back. Uh I mean we could Yeah, we could toss off some of these teams cuz Yeah, the Outrunners would be a big one to put in this one. That would actually that’d be great. Like that’s a a great place for them. Yeah, I agree. We’ll we’ll throw out the frat house and we’ll put in Outrunners. Might throw out Dark Order and put in maybe SAP maybe or Workhorsemen. I feel like Workhorsemen. I feel like Workhorsemen. Um, yeah. I’m in. We booked it. We booked it. You’re You’re welcome. You’re welcome, Tony. We’ll We’ll expect the checks in the mail. Just me. Infantry wins, by the way. Infantry wins cuz we are part of the set. We are part of the infantry loves us and we love them. So, they win in the end. Well, and like this was the story and they’ve had so many title shots where they lost. Like, just give it to them. It’s going to be infantry versus outrunners in the finals. My how far they came from lower card tag team feud on this show like a year and a half ago to the finals of the tag team title tournament. Perfect. But then the outrunners will win and they won’t show up. That’ll be unfortunately right. You’re actually right. So who would be in this survival of the fittest for the TV title? The inter room TV title because you know they’re not they’re not gonna strip Nick Wayne. They’re gonna do it in probably hologram four times. Hol hologram. El grande hologram. Hologram four times. So he loses for the first time. He loses three times at once and then also wins a title. One way to go. We must lose at least this one time. I can see Yeah, I can see hologram in it. I could see maybe someone Blade Christian. Yeah, that’s a good shout. Blade Christian. I see someone from the Callus family. Maybe Rocky or Lance. That would be Lance in there would be really fun. Like Lance in a Survival of the Fitness match would be very, very fun. Yeah, it will take everybody to get him out. Yes, we also need a luchador who’s unaffiliated. Oh, I like that. I like uh Masquera Dorado. That’s a fun shout. Not mad about that. That would be fun. That’d be very fun. Oh, I could I could see that, too. Uh, Frantic World saying, “I can see an old school ECW wrestler in the Survival of the Fittest.” Just call up Rhino or Lil Guido. That would be very fun. I think Lil Guido was on uh WWE television pretty recently, so they’ll probably go with Rhino because Rhino had a good showing, too. Um, that would also be a very Tony Khan move. Like that would be like a fun easy pop in a spot that’s not overly consequential. Like I don’t mind like legends being brought back for things like that, especially in a product that’s as aimless as Ro right now. Like just do the fun thing. That’s fine. Yes. Like one spot being eaten up there is good. Or of course Nigel McInness. Also, what do you think about Ro’s pay-per-view schedule? I think I think we’ve talked about this before, but I just don’t understand why he just doesn’t schedule them around AEW pay-per-views. Just treat it like NXT Takeover. Do it around your big four pay-per-views. Do one around Allin, one around Revolution, one around uh World’s. You could do it like the week before Worlds End in the same area. Like, I don’t understand why that’s not the route. I think if they did, I get sticking it in the middle of a residency. One, that just makes good financial sense because I’m sure they’re getting some sort of deal. And two, you have fans that are like in the AEW long haul in a sense that would probably buy tickets to Ro if it was a part of like a longer term thing. So, I get doing it here and then if they do another Hammerstein run in winter, like doing it there makes sense. So, I I don’t mind that idea. I think you’re right when you said this got like crowded on the back of Forbidden Door though because they I I actually feel like AW deserves a lot of credit and how much better the pacing of their pay-per-views has been. That’s been an underserved conversation because it was a huge issue in 2024. They expanded from four to 10 very very quickly and they also have Ro to balance within that. So I just wish that they they gave a crap around it. But I think it’s a smart strategy because I feel like AW fans if they’re in this like bigger swath of shows are probably more likely to also grab a ticket to it. Um I actually really like this the shout of putting AR Fox in there. I’m just also ready for AR Fox to be in a story that matters. Wait, give us the Ring of Honor television title build up. They always they always act whenever they do a random tag team match that has Nick Wayne and AR Fox in it, they always act like, “Oh my god, they have all this history, all this history that we never bring up until they’re in this random tag team.” Uh, but like make it something where he finally wins the big one. He had a big win at Supercard of Honor in that $100,000 fourway. and then he wins here survival of the fitness and then you can build up to AR Fox Nick Wayne for the undisputed TV title. Uh I really like that idea and I also I had had it in my head like I would love for an AR Fox Kyle Fletcher feud to happen. Uh cuz I feel like AR Fox is someone who could get made by that and in ring that would be a whole heck of a lot of fun. But I just want AR Fox to start doing something of consequence and this is a really easy layup. Actually, that’s a that’s a good good shout of when it’s time for Nick Wayne to come back. Like, you’ve got something built in right there. And also, AR Fox is great and he’s been doing this for a little bit. Let’s Let’s mix that up. I’m here for it. Or Nigel McInness because he’s the best. He hold every title all the time. He should tag with himself and win the tag titles tournament. I’m I’m here for it. The answer is always Nigel for me on Ro. Yes. See, we just we just booked the rest of Death Before Dishonor, but we’re going to give you the rest of Death Before Dishonor as far as uh what AEW has actually announced so far. But as always with our pay-per-view previews, I’ll ask Kate and myself and all of you from 0 to 10, what is your anticipation level, your hype level for this Rah Asia? a generous seven be just because I know the in ring’s going to be amazing. I know the in ring’s going to be amazing. The build I’m like in the basement 012 unfortunately, but like they I I can’t not be excited for an Ro pay-per-view on the principle that the wrestling’s going to be great. I wish I could be an 11 out of 10 if they tried a little bit, you know? You know, just just try just a smidge. Just have a plan of what you want to do for the next pay-per-view. Let me this weird idea after the last pay-per-view and then you can it’s probably easier to build out the weeks after that. But I don’t think he’s ever going to take that advice. Not unless some big money thing happens. Not unless they end up signing a TV deal. I think do we uh do we see that happen? Unfortunately, I’m at an even five. I think that like you said the inring work it’s always gonna deliver. I think the top two matches already announced on this card are going to be great. I I you know I think I can’t go higher than a five unless I know the whole card and the fact that this has less matches announced for the card than a WWE PLE that they don’t care about night a Clash of Clash of Paris. Um the fact that that has more matches than than this card. Yeah, I can’t go higher than a five. That is an extremely fair calibration. Oh man. And MCAT’s man, you’re just preaching to the choir here. He says, “Can we get the Billy Athena story started already?” It’s already started. It started. It finished. The answer, the end of the story was Athena’s better than Billy. The end. I feel like you deserve a sponsorship from Blue Chew if we’re going to keep talking about Ro because this stuff has been waiting and waiting. I mean, this stuff lasts as long as you could ever want. You are calling your doctor with this one. Okay, this has been over two Decembers ago. Um, yeah. I I mean, it feels like Athena’s on the main roster now, but they’re just I don’t I am not one of those people like get her to a thousand days. I don’t give a [ __ ] about that stuff. I really don’t. Like, longest reigning champion in history already. I don’t care if it’s at 980 days. I don’t care if it’s at a thousand. Um, she’s incredible. We’re seeing that on the main roster now. It feels like they have to they they owe it to Bill Starks at this point for that turn to happen. Um but it certainly doesn’t feel like interim TV champion Mina Sherikawa is going to be the one to dethrone the forever champion. Um but man, I it does feel like they’re doing that like it’ll be a trilogy over three final battles. Gen genuinely I think that’s what’s going to happen. Generally, I think that’s so stupid. It is. You basically define Billy as a loser and then she’s gonna win at the end. Oh, great. She won. She got like a thousand shots and she finally won one. I think there’ll be a turn. Like I I think there’ll be something that happens, but like we’ve already played that game twice, so I’m not interested because I’ve seen it already. But I I think they want the third times the charm story. Like they they want the the mentee finally conquers the mentor thing, but they’ve just they’ve gotten so lazy about it that it’s lost any and all sort of satisfaction when that moment happens, which is a shame because they’re both great. Yeah. It’s sad. It’s sad. And you’re probably MCAT’s probably right here. Fight without honor. That is what they would probably do. Yeah. Here we are. Uh but yes, we’ll we’ll talk more about that when we get to Athena’s match. First up, we Oh, well, for yeah, for me, yeah, I said five out of 10, but uh yeah, we got three title matches already announced and one fight without honor. Let’s start with one of those title matches for the Ring of Honor World uh Pure Championship. is going to be Lee Moriotti defending against Chu Chichua. Chua Chua Chua. Yeah, it’s not how it’s spelled. Uh Chua. I actually had to rewatch uh Ian Rickle body pronouncing his name like a hundred times before the show. Almost forgot it all before we got to this graphic. But Shu uh pushed Lee Moriotti to the limit couple of weeks back on Ro TV on Honor Club. Uh going to a 10-minute time limit draw in a Pure title proving ground matchup, earning himself an opportunity at the Pure Championship. Jo is one of the stars from CMLL who’s come over. CMLL has been a more of a presence now more than ever on Ring of Honor television as of late and Drew is just the latest example of that as he will challenge Lee Moriotti for the Pure Championship this Friday. Kate, what did you think about their first match together as well as who do you think wins on Friday? It’s so hard to do predictions for anything on this, but I’m I’m just gonna assume Lee retains because I I think that um I I actually feel like Lee dropping they want to be a moment. I also feel like before Dustin’s injury, it felt like we were probably were leading toward the Infantry finally winning the titles. And I think you want to make Shane Taylor promotions a powerhouse at some point where everybody’s lined up for those things. I could very much see Shane Taylor beating Bandido. That could be a very very fun thing to do stylistically. That would be incredible. So I’m I’m going with Lee for kind of just that it’s the most obvious play. And I don’t think this is the luchador they’d pull kind of one of those upset type deals on. Um and when they did that with Kyle Fletcher, it felt like it was because they were like, “Okay, we’re bringing him to AW full-time.” because they had this split personality where he was an AEW loser and a dominant TV champion on Ro. So, they said, “All right, we’re we’re making the jump with Fletcher.” I don’t think they’re doing that yet with Lee Morardi. Not that he ain’t ready, but I just don’t think that’s where we’re going. So, I’m going with Lee Morardi here. I saw the first match. It was fantastic. It was It was a lot of fun. Uh as as to be expected. As to be exa expected. Yeah, I expect this to be good a good match, but like you and like it seems like with the chat, I think that Lee Moriotti will retain the title. I expect a strong showing for Mua, but uh Chua, I think that he’s not one of like CMLL’s top stars. So, I don’t see it kind of being that tough of a challenge for for Lee on this occasion. So, then we got the matchup that has probably gotten the most build heading into this Friday. Kate, it is a fight without honor. QT Marshall will go oneon-one with Paul Walter Hower. This rivalry, this war, this war, this personal vendetta started all the way back in March at the Revolution Zero Hour pre-show when QT Marshall spilled liquor all over Paul Walter Hower, who’s a recovering alcoholic. That level of disrespect led to months upon months of social media interaction and activity between the two men. It led to a couple of weeks ago on Ro TV, Paul Walter Hower coming out and confronting QT Marshial, laying him out in the middle of the ring, closing him over the top rope to the floor. And QT then challenged Paul Walterhouser to a fight without honor in Philadelphia, a city that was basically the first fight without honor happened. Ring of Honor was born in. QT Martial considers himself a legend of Ring of Honor and wants to welcome Paul Walterhouser to his house at the 20 at the 2300 Arena. Kate, what have you thought about the the steering war that has been Paul Waterhouser versus QT Marshial? I mean this genuinely and I know there’s people that mean it sarcastically. I think QT Marshall’s really underrated like at at doing his job of getting people to give a crap. Like he’s he’s not given a whole heck of a lot. And if you listen to crowds when he’s actually wrestling, he gets reactions like pretty monster ones. I know when you’re fighting the Rizler and the the big boom crew, like you’re going to get reactions anyway, but he really like on the most intimate level understands what pro wrestling is supposed to be as a heel. And I think he’s actually done a pretty good job with this. I think Paul Walter Hower is going to get the best of him here. I think your team Marshall is being used as a guy that loses in specialty feuds, which is a brilliant use of him, honestly, because he knows how to make other people look good. He knows how to help people through matches. He gave a great interview on the spotlight with uh with our friends at at Fifel with Jeremy and uh Stephen Jensen. So, I’d encourage you to check that out because he talked about like how much how proud he was of the work that he did uh with with the big boom crew over there. So, he’s really, really good in these situations. So, I think this will probably surprise a lot of people as being pretty fun. Uh, I think they’ve done a decent enough job. They went to all the places that you should and shouldn’t go in a wrestling feud, which I think has been really good. I think Paul Walterhauser gets the the win here, as he should with how nasty QT’s been, but I I genuinely think QT doesn’t get enough credit for he he makes it look very easy to do. not very easy things like work through matches with celebrities and make sure everybody’s on the right side of where they need to be with this stuff. Yeah, this is this is perfect for him. Actually, QT Marshall in a lot of ways is basically what uh early early to mid2010’s Heath Slater was for WWE. He’s the guy that’s going to come in. He’s going to bump. He’s going to look great. He’s going to make whoever’s he’s in the ring with look great. Bump around for them. And if it’s a legend, if it’s a special guest, he’s the guy that will that will make them look like a million bucks. And that’s what QT does every single time out. And I’m glad they found a role for him because a lot of people tend to forget that QT left the company completely because they kind of couldn’t figure out if he could do like something backstage, something still on TV, still contributing to the onscreen product, but they were able to kind of find the balance where he has his backstage role again and now he’s got kind of got a guest a special attraction. They heal. They heal special attraction. Basically, whoever is going to be the special attraction, baby face, QT Marshial is probably going to be the heel that makes them look good. And this is another occasion of that. And I think they’ve done a good job of building this match up and making it something that will probably get some people that want to watch this show just for this one matchup. But yeah, like you said, in the end, uh, Paul Walterhauser gets the win. He picks up the victory against QT. to answer Darius in the chat who says who is Paul Walterh Hower again. Uh for for me and nerds like myself, he is uh Stingray from Copakai. That’s where we first met him. Uh most notably probably now uh what most people around the world will probably know him in is as Moleman in the new Fantastic 4 uh First Steps film. He was also commentator on AEW Collision a couple of weeks ago and he’s been appearing off and on on Ring of Honor uh since about since about March and he’s been in a whole bunch of other films. He’s trained a bunch too. Like this isn’t just a he’s done some MLW work I believe as well. So this is Progress. He’s the current Progress uh Proteius Champion in the UK. So yeah. So he’s this isn’t um like gonna be like a joke slam and you’re gone kind of thing. He’s he’s knows what he’s doing in there a little bit, but um QT just has the experience to ring general that which is is kind of what I meant there. So, I’m I’m actually looking forward to this cuz they uh QT’s made me care about things that I wouldn’t normally care about a few times now. So, I’ll take it. Got to give them credit. All right, we brought it up earlier. Let’s talk about it. for the Ring of Honor Women’s World Championship. Athena will defend against Mina Sherikawa. And what’s this match is really all about is will Athena make it to a thousand days. This Friday marks 900 I believe 994 95 days of her reign. If she’s able to get past Mina Sherikawa in Philadelphia, she will become the aday champion. But Mina is on been on a role in Ring of Honor television, picking up singles victories. Then as Supercard of Honor, she defeated Pphanie uh Yuka Sakazaki and Mia Yamashta to become the interim Ro women’s world television champion. And before she could even set up undisputed a unification matchup with the current world television champion, she was injured at the hands of Athena during the woman’s casino gauntlet match, hurting her hand. But when she came back, Tony Khan wanted to give her the chance to get revenge on Athena for that injury by giving her an opportunity at the Ro Women’s World Championship after watching her good friend, Timeless Tony Storm figure out Athena and pick up a rare victory over her at Forbidden Door. Can Mina figure out the fallen goddess? Kate, what have you thought about uh the story or lack thereof heading into this matchup? As well as who do you think wins on Friday? I think it’s pretty obvious Athena’s retaining here. I think they want her to get to that thousand days. Um I give them credit for playing off of the situation with Mina and Athena. Like I I think that’s a a good way to go about inventing a story out of nowhere. But I will say like if Mina’s ready to go and your card is this thin, she should be defending her title against someone. But they’ve thinned out the division so bad that there’s not really anything to to do there. You um also had Siri coming in and immediately having to go away for surgery, too. I think she probably would have been like a a fun shooter for uh Mina to go up against or I would have absolutely adored seeing her in Athena. Uh, I think that would have been the route they would have went for for this show if Sherry didn’t didn’t get injured, unfortunately. Yeah, like she she showed up and was gone as soon as she arrived, unfortunately. Uh, but I I do feel like that feud is still going to be great when it when it happens, no matter which show it ends up being on. Uh, but I I think this is another one very predictable outcome. I think I feel like the match will be excellent. I just feel like you should have had Mina defending her own title when the card is is so thin to begin with. I gotta agree with you there. Like there there had to be another option to go with where you could have given both women title matches on this card whether it’s I don’t know Alex Windsor or someone else. I mean, the the AEW women’s division is so deep. They still have women that are on the sidelines like waiting watching. Like, you couldn’t figure out what to do with the women’s pure title. How about you just give Danna Pazzo a shot at the Ro women’s world championship? You know, she’s actually a former champion. If you if you look through your your records, you would see that. Like, come on. What are we doing? Her versus Athena would be fun as hell, too, by the way. That would just be all day. all day. I could watch that match. But I agree. I also feel like uh the people that they had flirtations of stories with, unfortunately, as deep as the women’s division is, like you think of Thunder Rosa, that’s someone who got injured, too. Like there’s there are some things that they kind of like felt like Rosa might not be a oneanddone. Felt like Condo was probably coming in. They’re they’re both injured. So, it’s a little bit trickier, but you’re right in that like you could have snapped something together with Taelo. you could have like there there’s options there. Uh DA is a a great call because of the history there too. So I’m sure she’ll be announced for some pre-show [ __ ] that you know what’s sad is you’re probably right because she’s she’s right there in Jersey anyway. So it’s a quick call. Can you take the bus over here? Oh, thanks. Expensing Uber, right? It’s expensing Uber. What is that? 200 bucks. Ah, that’s fine. That’s fine. Put it on Put it on the platinum card, said Tony. Uh, but yeah, that that would have been the better choice. I 100% agree with you. You have both women defend their titles if they’re both healthy enough to compete. That seems like a no-brainer. But no-brainers in Ring of Honor seem to be very difficult to figure apart. I will give them credit though because one thing that we we’ve uh complained about in the past when we would do our post show on Vifel is uh whenever we had a great Ring of Honor pay-per-view, we never knew what to look forward to next. and Supercard of Honor may go down as like the best Tony Khan Ro pay-per-view because not only did he give us a night full of great action, a match of the year candidate with Teesha and Bandito, but right after that match of the year candidate, we immediately knew what the next pay-per-view main event would be. And I was like I was honestly like even thinking about it a month later, I’m honestly shocked he he he had that much foresight for the fact that he was only able to come up with three other matches in a month since then. A whole month’s worth of foresight for the Ring of Honor World Championship. Bandito two belt Bandito. That’s right. defending against Hetasero of the Don Kalis family. Hetasero got a victory over Michael Oku back at Supercard of Honor. Then he showed up to confront Bandito after his absolute epic encounter against Koske Teesha at Supercard of Honor stole the weekend. It was Jesus who staked his claim for an opportunity at the Ring of Honor World Championship. In the weeks since then, we had uh multiple multi-man matches involving both men, including on the uh Wednesday after Allin Texas where Hetasero picked up a win along alongside the rest of the Don Kalis family and the Young Bucks over Bandito, submitting Bandito in that matchup, then showing the world that he could defeat the Ro Champion with Bandito having been distracted over the last couple of weeks with Brody King capturing the AEW World Tag Team Championships. Will his attention now be diverted this Friday when he has to defend the Ring of Honor World Championship against Hetasero? We talked about it a lot when uh you know we did our post show on Fightful for Supercard of Honor. We talked about the the amazing summer of Bandito. Bandito has entered himself into the chat for wrestler of the year between what he was able to do with CMLLO in Arena Mexico, the match of the year candidate with Mascarita Dorado, tore it up with Mystico, the tag team trios matches, the match with Teesha that we’re all we’re going to be talking about that till the end of the year pretty much. and then what he’s been able to do with Brodito alongside Brody King and stealing the show with the Young Bucks and the 30 minute battle with FTR then winning the tag team titles at Forbidden Door. What is People have seen this tweet a couple of times from a couple of different people, but people were really saying after this Friday, we’re gonna have to have a serious conversation about Bandito. I say like he’s in that top 10, the 10 names that you want to put in there for your the best male wrestler of the year. And I think that if he’s able to repeat what he did the last Ring of Honor pay-per-view and do that with Hetasero, someone who isn’t considered one of the five best wrestlers in the world like Teeshta is, I think, yeah, then we’re going to have to be like, yeah, I think he’s one of the finalists. He’s moved on to the next round. We’re we’re like, “Okay, now it’s him and there’s only four other names that I’m willing to listen to to debate you on because that’s how good Bandito has been over the last three months and this a big opportunity for him and further further, you know, expanding on the Don Kalis family story that’s going on. So, Kate, what do you think about everything going on, whether it be Bandito’s year so far, this matchup, and who wins on Friday?” Well, I think this match up’s going to be a sight to see because like I’m man even on the pre-show I’m watching at Chesero and I’m like this man really is a magician. Like he’s he’s such a special wrestler and the only thing with that I don’t love about Chesero is that I didn’t find out about him sooner cuz I like am mostly confined mostly to American television and then stuff I actively seek out and I didn’t actively know to seek him out. Uh he he’s just really really incredible and I think him and Bandidor are gonna have an incredible incredible uh showing here. If they cared more about the duality with with uh AEW, I would say that there’s more of a possibility that Bandido drops here and because I think there’s actually some interesting stuff you could do with the Callis family with Kyle Fletcher having a title. They might want Etchasero to have a title. They might want to start transferring some gold to them. But even if Chisero is the one to to do it, I I don’t feel like maybe it’s a oneand done. Maybe we get some more juice out of it. I think Bandido probably retains here. Even though from the higher level, if you look at what’s going on with AW, I actually think it makes more sense if it switches. But I don’t think that’s what we’re going to get here. I do think you’re going to get a hell of a match out of this. And I do think Bandito retains. as far as wrestler of the year, like real ones will know. Like I I don’t know if he’ll get like the votes in end of year award type stuff just because he hasn’t been not all of this has been on American television, though I feel like enough of it probably should be to give you a clue of how special this guy is. But I I don’t know if he’ll get the the mainstream credit of it. But I think people that are like as deep into wrestling as as you or I or people watching these podcasts will understand what a special talent he is. What a special year he’s having. And he’s just never allowed to be sidelined ever again. I’ve decided that we can’t ever have that because he’s just he’s incredible. And what’s impressed me so much about the Brodito run has been how quickly they have gelled as a tag team with like tandem offense and chemistry. Like I know they’ve been friends for for a long time. Like they’ve crossed paths many times in this in this great business in this great sport, but like the the way that they’ve gone about business as a tag team doesn’t feel like they’re a Franken tag team. It feels like they’re a proper tag team. So I’m I’m intrigued to see what happens with this title run. I don’t think it’s it’s for the long haul, but I I am entertained by what I’ve seen from them so far. For sure. For sure. Who Cheryl is hilarious. Shout outs to Righteous Rege or Ring of Honor. Um, I I agree with a lot what you said and honestly I agree with you so much. I’m going with Hetasero from the I think I think that that is the thing where you can help two different stories. You can free up Bandito where he’s able to focus on the tag team division. you could give another title to the Don Kalis family and he helps my my story because I said, you know, even before Forbidden Door, I was like, you got Will Osprey who’s going to be out now. Swerves got his surgery this week. He’s going to be out. That’s two of two of your like top three top four baby faces. We need you to turn up the cooker. Turn up the light. Turn up the spark on to catch the slowb burn babyface turn of him getting getting upset about all the people Don Kalis have feeling neglected because all of his success is going on in Japan and he just breaks free. He wins the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, wins the C2 and then eventually beats Okada for the unified title. I think that it it’s so hard with Teesha because he’s unbelievable at the role that he’s in. This like heel assassin is so entertaining to watch. But then I think about my Cinnabon Teesha and how much I love him and how over he just genuinely is with the crowd and I’m like if that’s the way the tide is going to turn, take him that way. Take him that way. Like just do do what’s right with that. And you’re right. AW is going to be in need of top baby faces soon. I’m actually very intrigued to see who steps up into those roles. Like I I think it’s actually a very healthy thing for the middle top of the roster because they’re going to have more opportunity. Now it’s a matter of who steps up. Danny Garcia, I’m looking at you. Like we we got to see things like that. Uh but I do feel like Teesha is almost the no-brainer one because he’s just been on that cusp for a while now. So him stepping up into that role I think is going to be something special. And I not just because I thought of it, but I actually think it’s a really really interesting story because they’ve teased this Okada Teeshta thing so much that for him to win both tournaments in one year, there’s not a lot of wrestlers you could do an arc that special with and Teesha is one of those guys because he’s he’s just such a an absolute phenom. So do it. Do the thing. I like the the slowb burn baby face alongside that. Like let’s let’s make that happen. I would love for Edgesero to win. I I think that would be a really cool and inspired move. I just don’t know. It’s just so hard with Ro sometimes, but I I think it’s the better booking decision, which is why I’m probably thinking they won’t do it. Yeah, it is a better not to do it. Uh but I also want to see Eddie Kingston come back, but you know, Eddie, Orange Cassidy, like they they do have people on the way back. Like Orange Cassidy back sooner than later is a a phenomenal call. Um, so we’ll we’ll see what comes of it. I think you’re going to need to I I think it’s like we saw it with Queen Aminata, right? She stepped up where there was an opening. Like sometimes it it’s unfortunate when people get sidelined, but sometimes other people get a minute to shine through. And I’m I’m really excited to see who gets to help Carrie because listen, they Swerve was being used sporadically, Will was out, Kenny was out, and the product was still really good. So, and you obviously have Hangman as your ace, right? So, I I feel like people are forgetting like, well, the product’s been good without them for a few weeks now. So, like it’s it’ll it’ll hang in there, but those are definite hits to the roster depth that you’re going to have to to fill those voids. Most definitely agree there. But, we made it to the end of this uh pay-per-view preview talking about Ro death before Dishonor. We’ll talk about it some more this Saturday on the Flagship podcast. And I think maybe me and Kate will team up together over on uh Fightful to talk about it either after the show or sometime we’ll figure it out and we’ll let you know.
