Hello everyone, my name is Michelle. Welcome back to the Everything in Between podcast. [Music] Today we have a guest on the show. Would you like to introduce yourself to me? Hi everybody. I am a very longstanding fan. I’ve been a fan since been born me. And my name is Missy. Yeah, Nissy has been on my neck for this episode. I hope you’re happy. I’m very happy. Okay, so for our audience to know you better, I’m going to ask you some rapid fire questions. I need your answers quick. Very surface level questions, by the way. Um, what’s your favorite ice cream flavor? Strawberry. Cats or dogs? Dogs. Dogs. Why is that like cats? I do like cats, but just Oh, what was the last song you listened to? Oh, they’re nice. Yeah, okay. What’s your go to karaoke song? I will not. But let me just say remember. Do you remember? Mhm. What’s your favorite way to spend the day off? The thing is I never have day off. I always have something I’m doing. Are we working? I’m always not working but Yeah. Always busy. But if you had if you like chose to take a day off without doing anything playing games, like FIFA, what’s the weirdest food com combination you eat or you enjoy? Wait, are you sure? beans, fried egg, and ever. It’s like it’s not like, see, the thing is that you don’t put everything in one place. So, it doesn’t look like the same meal, but it’s the same meal. You just put the beans, you put fried egg on the side, and then thereby you just be taking it small. When did you discover to be eating such boys? In my secondary school. Oh, secondary school. Um, boarding house, bro. I used to do it was crazy. What’s one thing you can’t live without? Music. Music. Thank god. He’s giving you giving P already. What’s your biggest pet peeve? Oh my god. My biggest I’m going to name two. Yeah. one. Mhm. People that spell wrongly. What if it’s a typo? No, I understand typos. Yeah, I understand typos. But you see this thing because I work at direct here. So, I’m constantly talking to people. You see this thing, you know, chicken. No, no chicken. Mhm. Some people spell it no as in K n. And I’m like, “Brother, brother, it’s I will not spell it. I’ll not put in capital letters. No chicken.” They’ll be like, “Yes, no chicken.” I’m like, “Fucking hell, bro. Doesn’t.” Anyway, what’s the second one? The second one is um people that are too entitled that entitled people that feel too entitled to your stuff or like your things. Like someone that just says, “Oh, you know, let me just leave that one. Let me just go into So people touching my stuff. I don’t like it.” Okay. You don’t like people touching my stuff and my food. Just don’t touch it. Just leave it there. Oh, okay. Don’t touch stuff, guys. What’s your favorite movie genre? Cartoons. Cartoons. I don’t I don’t really watch movies. Do you like anime? Yeah. Okay. What What would you choose? Coffee or tea? You know, I’m in Nigeria. How does that relate? When you say tea, do you mean I mean raspberry tea, ginger tea? That’s chocolate drink. Yeah, that’s what you say. Coffee or tea? I I choose coffee. Coffee. Okay. What’s something people don’t know about? People don’t know that I don’t like people. People don’t know that I don’t like Oh, true. I I don’t You don’t like crowd? Yeah, I don’t really like I might just if you see me outside, I might do Oh my god. Hey, and I honestly I like seeing people, but I don’t really like I don’t know how to explain it. You don’t really like I’m a closeted introvert. Let me just say that. Okay, you like your space. I love my space. Okay, that that that’s fair. That makes sense, guys. Um, I’m having Nissi as a guest today because Nissi is an artist. So, he makes like music on Spotify and Apple and soundtrack. Right. Please stream my music. So, I will buy a car tomorrow, man. Yeah. I’m not ser from. You don’t know. Anyways, down the road. There’s no mama down the road here. Okay. Ni is an artist and he like makes music and all of that good stuff. So, I’m going to be asking you like how did you how did you discover that you like to make music? Like how did you fall in love with music? So, while growing up Mhm. I was always I mean there was always music everywhere when I was growing up. There was always music. My mom and dad always played like West Live, always played Michael Jackson, especially my dad. My mom was always playing like music. Sorry, give me a second. I don’t know how Afric My dad always uh playing, you know, Michael Jackson, West stuff like that and country music. My mom was always playing gospel music and 90s, you know. So I was always surrounded like music always was around me. When was the first time you knew that okay this is something I could do? Um I think primary four make music then. Mhm. I just need to give it to anybody. Oh like you just used to like write lyrics and everything? Yeah write lyrics just you know just play around. But I released my first song. Don’t look for it because you’ll cry. I’ve tried to take that song down so many times. Why can’t you take it down? Because I didn’t put it on my account. Oh, I used one other one other account on I think Spotify or something. But like, bro, the song was terrible. How was it terrible? Is it like a beat or something? I made the beat from scratch with like an app. Yeah. If you see my phone then it was borderline. It was borderline button one. It was an MTM phone. I’ll find that song. Do you know? Did you know that MTM makes phones? I No, I knew MTS make phone like that that time, bro. That phone when you turn it on and I swear to God, this phone will be showing Bluetooth. Like that’s the logo when you turn on the phone. Mhm. So, literally, I’m sorry, guys. I have ADHD. So, I can tell. Don’t Did they diagnose you with HD? Yeah. Who diagnosed you? Me. I’m a doctor, bro. It’s a doctor. I beg. I beg. I beg. You don’t have any. Continue. Well, I can’t tell one story. I have to divert whatever. But basically, that’s when I started making music. Do you want to tell us the name of the like? No. Is it your name though? It’s not. It’s not a name I used to use back in the day. Okay. I guys I’ll find the song and I’ll like put it in the video. Thanks. Okay. So, starting out like when did you realize that outside of like dabbling into music, when did you like make your first proper single that was like attached to the brand name Nissi and all of that. Okay. Nissi, not the one I used to use before. No, no, like proper cuz you know now like you’re a forward facing artist kind of. So, you’re like an artist that you can call to come and perform. Do you get So, when did you first start that? Who even brought the name Lucy? I mean, it’s my name. Like that’s your actual name? Yeah. Like just Nissi? Yeah. Cuz I was actually thinking about it the other day. I was like, “This doesn’t sound like a stage name. Sounds like that’s my actual name.” Yeah. I can think thank my mom for that. So I justed to just go because my other name was Dab. I can’t lie. You look at that name and you think you’re looking at somebody in 1900s that is performing for you. But yeah, I started releasing music under the name Lucy in 2021. That’s not that far. Yeah, it’s not that far. When I first came into Georgia, I released it the first song as a birthday present to myself. A so cute continue. Sorry. So sorry. But yeah, uh I that’s when I literally made started releasing music as an because I wanted to just take myself apart from night from the person I was before. You mean you always yourself? But yeah. Oh, okay. So, what can you tell us the first thing that you made? How like the thought process that went into making that? Well, I can’t lie. The reason the name of the song is Sorry. My roommates at that time know that that song I wrote it because I failed an exam. Yeah. I was about to No, I failed an exam, bro. I was saying sorry to everybody, everybody in my family. Sorry mom. Sorry myself. Sorry to girlfriend that I did not have. Sorry to everybody. Girlfriend. Exactly. That I’m such a failure. I’m so sorry about that. It was it was and it it did really well. I I didn’t think it would do do well, bro. Because that was the first time I ever clocked 50,000 on one on one single single. And I was looking at it like I was watching the numbers. I was like, “No, I do. Do you people want me to keep singing about my sorrow?” So I just need to keep sorry is a good it’s not afro what’s that afro depression you want meal I love by the way guys but yeah I have yeah you could you could clock it it could be your gen you don’t want I don’t want to please I’m not depressed okay so what would you call your music like what what’s what box you place it under the thing I don’t like being put in a You know, you know, there’s a general umbrella that’s like acrobat, but like I’m talking the jazz segments. Everybody doesn’t just do one. I get, but I do. The thing is though, yeah, someone asked me this question a few weeks ago, weeks ago. And I remembered I told them I told them my genre is afroy. And they were like, “What the hell? Why you What is a I don’t know. It’s just me as a person. Okay. But what what kind of beats would you reject towards? Because if I give you sh puppy type of would you sing to that? I can. If you want to, but you don’t. I don’t. Exactly. So that means you have a fusion. Okay. Fire boy. Okay. I I I see that. I see that. Joe boy. Okay. I see that. Yeah. Cuz I was even about to ask you, is it like R&Bish? Well, somehow somehow somehow I can’t lie, but Oh, yeah. I think I would call it I when you mentioned Fire Boy, I not see how it kind of streamlines. It makes sense. It makes sense. Oh yeah. When you were starting out, did you ever encounter challenges like finding management, becoming um start getting payments, all of that stuff? Like talk to us about making music. So people people think anytime I tell people that oh I do music. [Music] Is that one of two things? Is that yes one or two? You’re wasting your time. This boy is not serious in his life. And I I I cannot I can’t blame them because when you see But your music is not limited to listen. Yeah, I know. But when you meet someone in that, oh, I’m an artist. I mean, you don’t perform here now. So, but you see those that do. Mhm. You look at them and they’re like and you don’t really see maybe you listen to me and you’re like some of them though they’re like they sh your colleagues. No, I’m not shading anyone. It’s just like I always say this thing to people that I feel like most artists in Mhm. they’re being so boxed into one corner. I don’t know that. I don’t know any other one like No, people are not artist. They know. Yeah. Okay. Because they they they always I feel like they can do more. Basically, they can do more than themselves. Yeah. They can do more than they actually are doing because I know I know one person. Mhm. I call his name. I feel like I know who it is. Cinu I know one person. Yeah. There’s a song of his I have on my phone. Mhm. His It’s so beautiful and I’ve been telling him release songs like this. But no, he wants to be releasing. I’m like, brother, this just release this one. Really songs like this. This is so beautiful. He’s like, oh, like he doesn’t really know. He doesn’t really know how to go about. So, okay. Come to me for your musical direction. No, don’t come to me. I’m Well, I’m a pencil in the hand of the creator. You’re not serious. So, but how did you like how did you did you like you have a manager, right? How did you meet your manager? Well, I I bless God. I didn’t meet my manager. He met you. He met you. Okay. And ever since I was uh I was starting out with music. God has always found a way to put me in places of favor. So, I meet people that I’m not supposed to meet. It has made me very conscious of the music world in general and how music actually works. Okay. And um it has made me try to pull back a bit from music because of you don’t want to get lost in it. Yeah, basically I want to still ground myself because there are things I could have done that by now I will not be judg but the thing is that sometimes you just have to remember where you’re coming from and remember where you want to be. Not the one that you do two three years you for two three years and you fade into obscurity. Do you understand? So I have I have a lot of friends that have gotten famous in the past two three years. I mean one of them if she called your bleep though I know who you’re talking about. No I would not call one of them just said that. Yeah. Oh he sent to Yeah. I didn’t know that. Recently actually that’s nice. a few months ago and it’s just what’s your take on signing to like labels? Okay. Can make you Oh, yeah. But I don’t I don’t think it always has to end like the way. Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. Can I make you guys see I’m sorry. Mhm. when he left maybe he just stops losing me. Yeah. I don’t know why he stopped doing it, but he just stopped because I love Cor. I know he’s jammed, bro. Bro had jams for days. He still has to be honest. And when he left me, I saw people I was so young then. I saw people saying, “Ah, it’s because he left me. You see his name again, blah blah blah.” I don’t even think so. I just think he didn’t even he just I don’t know if he completely stopped. I don’t know if he has come back now. I just don’t hear him use it from his side. Yes, I think he took a break. I think he took a break. But fame can be overwhelming. It actually is a lot of scandals that come out of fame because when you blow people want to add connected to you, bro. Do you do you experience that here in Tib that people want to be your friend because of not really not here because here I try as much as I can to be very You want to say low key? Loki. Why are you lying? How uh what do I do? Uh what do I do? Okay. You sure know Loki if I if I these are honestly speaking this is how I drop song. If I drop something, you won’t hear from me again for like 6 months and it’s bad, but Okay. So, you don’t think you experience that here in No, but online, bro, I’ve had at this point. Yeah. I I have a someone that does my social not social media, but someone that curtails what I like and what I don’t you don’t like no what I like on Instagram, Twitter, stuff like that. what I tweet what I because it’s like it will be bad if like they say God willing I blow and then they go back and they say hey waiting this boy type for 2025 you get yeah I guess you but there are so many messages I get that bro is can you help me send my number send this song to like me don’t I don’t from anywhere what do you mean I don’t I don’t be whiskey. So what do you mean that ah can you send this thing today? If I knew them, do you think I’ll still be in Why do you say like? But anyway, yeah, I get you. Did you get Yeah, but you still be here because you’re here for a different reason. What if I blow now? Wa to God and man who made Sorry to man and God who made me. You are lying. Come on. You wouldn’t drop out because No, no, no. I won’t drop out. Exactly. Yeah, I I’ll be I’ll be I’ll be school from far away. I can’t transfer go where? Wherever I’m going to be you will not drop out. Even if you blow, you will not drop out. That’s you be traveling a lot. Hey, I’ll be traveling a lot. I’ll be doing it from far. When they need me, I will come. Don’t need me, I will go. Nothing making me leave. Yogi, why did you say that? Sorry. This is we didn’t plan for this. See, she didn’t brief me. This podcast is my raw and true feelings. Anyways, um when did you like have when did you like know that you’re going always going to stick by music? Because like I asked you and you like it’s something you can’t live without. So when did you fall in love with it and know that I’m always going to stick by it? Well, one was when I realized you can get paid from doing music. First go running from first got some doies that is not sh with me when that money drops in her account. I don’t believe I didn’t believe it. I do like him, bro. Why do me like him? When I first saw it, I went to go and tell my mom. I said, “See, whatever happens, this medicine not work.” I go like, “But I go that whiskey studio, the studio that I went to record.” So, I’m going there. And two, one reason why I don’t know, I I I can’t I’ve not gone a day in my life without listening to music. I guess you’re a listener. Or singing. I’ve never I’ve not done it. Okay. Yeah, maybe singing but like listening for someone like me. I’m not really a I mean I have my artist I really like outside of that as if I don’t hear the music on Tik Tok and there I’m going to go and actually listen to it. Do you understand? Like except for example I for example I know the artist or something like the way I know you I can listen to music. When was the last time you bumped new? Don’t point me if I stream. If I stream, it’s not it’s not enough. Anyways, what was I to say? Like, yeah, but I don’t I’m not like for example, I’m not actively music, but maybe because that’s cuz I don’t make music. But I’ll see where you’re coming from because when you make music, there’s a tendency for you to also want to be in tune with other sounds and listen to podcast. Yeah. I I That’s what I do. That’s what I do in my life. My woman is always like, “Why you watching podcast?” I’m like, “Guys, I love podcast.” Any best believe in Nigeria has a podcast. I’m listening to it. Anywhere it is, wherever it is in the world, I’m listening to it. But yeah, I do. Um, okay. Okay, I understand now cuz I do listen to podcast a lot. I usually just finish one before you get Yeah, because you too, you want to be in tune with whatever. Okay. Yeah, that makes sense. Yeah, it it helps you kind of balance the way you are. Yeah, but then again, it’s not even about that. It’s just about the love for it. Okay. Yeah. Music is actually nice. Like when you like music to the soul it hits different. Yeah. Because me I’m I’m a kind of person I don’t really I don’t know how to because of how I was brought up. I don’t know how to really express yourself emotion. Yeah. I would I’m mostly Oh, it’s fine. It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s something it’s fine. It’s okay. Even if it’s not, even if it’s not, and music is just that outlet because if you don’t have outlets, people die. Music is just that outlet for me to just express my emotion. I may not say it to the person, maybe you do something wrong to me. I just I just write I’ll just put maybe like three lines and I’ll and I’ll put it there and you will not know. But enemies now, they listen. They’ll be looking out for your songs. No, I don’t have enemies. I just have people that misbehave for sometime we all we all Why do I know that it’s Tik Tok now? I don’t do Tik Tok. You have Tik Tok. You are on Tik Tok. You post on Tik Tok. But regardless when like when you started out, what were the challenges you faced that kind of shook your base a bit? So when I dropped Sorry, the song got a lot of traction. A lot of traction. Yeah. And that brought about the good and the bad. Good was money. Bad was the bad was um hate comments. Really? Yeah, bro. I had people telling me I should go and kill myself. Why? I have no idea. The song was People are wicked though. The song was not that deep. It was It was legit not that deep. The song I just I had Where did the hate comment come from? Instagram. Really? I had people texting me on Instagram telling me my request. I don’t reply my request anymore. I just delete all of them. Anytime I see that is getting I just delete. I don’t even go through. Um I will just see people say oh um oh is how uh this boy is what do you think you are? Blah blah blah blah blah. This one that one this one that one please kill yourself. I don’t release song focus on that medicine way they do. I’m like and I was how old? I was uh 18 at the time. I’m sorry. I said ah brother I don’t think it’s that deep but okay she’s even that’s supposed to write your book but sure I don’t understand trolls on social media to be honest that’s not something I in my life I never understand it I don’t want to understand it because as far as I’m concern if you’re a fool so if you anybody you yourself to a fool and what did the Bible says what is the best answer for a fool but that’s besides the The thing is is it so there’s a there’s a type there’s banter and there’s trolling there’s trolling there’s proper trolling where it’s just like I just don’t like you I can’t I can’t stand your face that one is crazy piece that was crazy but the thing is that yeah after that I took a one year hiatus I told myself you know I told myself no more music I’m done because I couldn’t handle it I was I was like how many people want me to die 18 years old want me to I thought I was going through a little bit of a, you know, a rocky place. Yeah. Shaking through a bit of problems with, you know, matters of the art. CH’s art. Imagine watches. [Laughter] Oh, have you ever written a heartbreak song? Have I ever written a heartbreak song? Do you have a speaker? You have a speaker? No, I don’t. After we discuss, but like written Yeah, bro. I have a lot of heartbreak songs like my and my EP or hour I don’t know that I’ve been holding off. Why? I don’t know. I didn’t feel it was ready yet. See this song that I released now. This last one that I released it wasn’t finished. I I just I didn’t mix. What did you do? Just raw. Yeah, that’s I just went to go and release it because I was like something that was good. Actually, let me just buy this book. But you just you can create it now. Just create it and give us when you’re ready. Yeah, that’s what I’m doing right now. Like guys, don’t pressure me. So, he’ll give you his songs when he’s ready. Don’t pressure him. No, please pressure me. Small. Okay, now you want pressure. Okay. No, small. Because pressure him. If you don’t if you don’t pressure every day when you see where the album pick that’s what you want. ever been known. So, but I feel like you work on that pressure. Yeah. You really Yeah. Yeah. It’s true. It’s actually so true. Another thing that most people don’t talk about about music when you’re starting, they never tell you about the mental side of it because you could all the people that release regularly know if you release regularly, you would expect at least one just please let one blow. Especially if you don’t have money. If you don’t have money, you don’t have to pay inflation. Yeah. For all those kind of things for promo and stuff like that. Someone quoted me 1.8 million for promo and I’m like brother. I’m like brother I don’t have 19. What do you think I’m doing? Am I doing y because of the d I’m carrying that you think I’m doing y? This is not no I’m talking about back then. So some people don’t think about it. Like if you release song today, maybe this one gets 20 20 streams. No, not scale. 20 streams. So you release this one maybe 15 streams. You feel like very you’ll be down to Yeah. You’ll be like, “Ah, people don’t really like this. There’s no point.” But keep going. Keep going. Keep pushing. Keep pushing because you don’t know who will listen to you. It’s not about the quality. It’s the quantity. It’s not about the quantity. It’s the quality, Missy. It’s not It’s not about the quality. It’s not the quantity. The quality. Sorry about that. But yeah, basically. But yeah, I I I feel like I get you. I’ve always wanted to know how like people make music and I go back to back to back because at the end of the day, you’re still human. As much as you’re popping, it can take a toll on you that some people never recover from it. That’s why some musicians, you’ll be wondering why they don’t make music anymore. Just cuz maybe they’re tired of that life. They just want to live like a normal life and people think, “Oh, they fell off or this or that.” And also, in this day and age, I feel like it’s really your money that sells your music at this point. I mean, some people are lucky that, okay, the quality of your music can go far further than your money, especially if you’re starting out. But when you get to a certain level, your money that’s going to this is speaking for you because even if your song is not nice and it comes out and you can pay like 10 big influencers, that song has gone now or you get somebody to do a choreography for you on Tik Tok, that kind of thing. Your song has gone. So do you always would you say nowadays people still make quality music like they put they put in their heart into their craft basically? A select few a select few especially Nigerian when I’m talking about Nigerian artist a select few make music with their heart an example would be on the top of my head I can give you a couple who Johnny yeah yeah true Johnny, the caveman sh the caveman. Um, I would say Omali because I feel like Omali’s music is because his music is actually good and because you like but shout out wherever you are. Anyways, it’s um it’s it’s just and you know Nigerians you Nigerian I would not like to Nigerians like rubbish. Huh? Can you remember? There was one. No, there’s one song that was trained in that when you said that I w that was the first to my head because I was like I said [Music] I was like, “Yeah, I I mean for the fun of it is cool and all, but like do you actually is that actually the song that you want to be singing? They just want to be I mean, I feel like I blame Tik Tok sometimes. Yeah. Because artists nowadays just want to make a Tik Tok Tik Tokable song. Yeah. People don’t really pour into their craft as much anymore. That’s why when I see albums that come from like the depth of the And you can know when somebody puts their all into their craft, they’re not just trying to make it trend. And then if it trends, okay, good for them. But they just they’re doing music for the soul of it. And and but then at the same time, I can’t blame them. Yeah. You can’t take the bull is calling. You actually can’t blame them. But if you were in that kind of situation, you would you would pay to promote your music, wouldn’t you? Yeah, if I had the money. Have you ever paid to promote your music? I mean, now I do sometimes. Really? What platform? I mean, do you pay people here or No, not here. No, I pay people in Nigeria. Why did you say no? Not here. I don’t know. Um I need to go. I don’t think my audience is belly into so I don’t Oh, they’re not into music. My audience is barely I I mean from the start I saw it’s not really I mean I can track it but anyways I don’t know people that you can pay. I don’t I don’t really think they’re not in here like that. [Laughter] How will you pay him to promote your What does he want to promote for you? How will you promote? He’s the only person that will be able to promote that. How will you promote it now? I don’t know. He doesn’t have any platform to use and promote it. They will come and do dance for you. I don’t know. But please, I beg. I beg. I beg. I won’t even advise you. Why will you pay for what? Am I mad? Okay. But regardless, do you have any things that influence like your music? Like musical influences that have shaped the way you create and make music? Yeah. Charlie Poof. I know that name, but I don’t know his songs. You just want to I was like, “Yeah, I know that name.” So, when I first started making music, I started making that kind of music. That kind of music. Yeah. So, I wasn’t making appro I entered beat in 2022. Um, 2022. So I’m really really still so um scene looking. So uh I used to make all those I used to be a rapper. I used to you wrapped recently. What you just put on your Instagram? That’s rap. I was just coming back feeling feeling funky. The rap scene. Let me drop some way. But yeah, I I just wanted to I just wanted to sing like him. I don’t know. I really love his voice. He knows how to put a lot of emotion into his voice and I really love that about music. I don’t like music that’s very surface. I hate it so much. I hate surface level music except I just want to do a except that. But if I just want to listen to music to just enjoy it, I even listen to it has gotten to the point where I don’t listen to actual artists anymore. I listen to um I don’t know if you guys will know Steven Universal. Is that not a show? Yeah, it’s a show. So you listen to some There was a period in time where you were just doing soundtracks. Mhm. soundtrack. No, no, no. It’s just because of the show, you know, when they do a show, there’s a lot of emotion that goes into like voice acting, blah, blah, blah, and this and that. And I love listening to the emotion in I love listening to emotion in songs. Even even at church, people will tell you there are some songs and there are some instrumentals you play in church, bro. I would just feel like crying like nothing everybody is standing, everybody is sad and I’m like I feel like crying, bro, because the emotion in that is so deep for me. Okay. So, how do you write music? Like do you write it based off your personal experiences? If I write about myself, what I write about? No. No. But some people write about fantasy like what you want to have. No. Every every song I write is from a place of experience. I’ve always experienced I caugh you. Well, well, yeah, experience. But then it’s like it doesn’t have to be personal experience. No, it’s personal experience. But sometimes I used to add Oh, Jar. Yeah, you add like salt and salt and pepper. You get I just to add more. But it’s always something that I’ve experienced because if I feel like if I don’t add what I’ve experienced, it would very it would be as very shallow. So, have you written a love song? Yeah. Several. Really? No. When will we get a love song? We want to see Ni the lover boy in the in the album. In the album. But the lover boy, right? N is in love. If you deny it, she will see it. India currently. What do you mean? What do you mean by impressive? Yes. Yes. This is new. Yes. Int. Yeah. I think you think it’s crazy because it’s not like it’s not like he’s here. But I’m in Tibissi. I’m talking the person. Oh. Oh, okay. Yeah. Where you? I don’t know, man. I don’t know. I’m very It shook you. Yeah. A lot of information. Okay. So, as an artist, have you found ways to like connect with your audience? You know, there are some artists that personalize like the music experience for their audience. Yeah. No. Why do you? That’s one thing I have not been able to do. But like you plan on doing? Yeah, I plan on doing it because I I I always feel like I always have this thing that I feel like oh um my music like the people that listen to music are only in so my mind I’m always very laser focused on but I don’t really check your stats now. You can see there bro my stats number one country US number two country Argentina Argentina saying my stats my number one country is US I was so surprised I was like really but yeah I guess just US has a wide audience like social media kind of points towards that direction so the like most of these companies are US companies so when you bring out something kind of hits them first yeah to be honest so I mean you could correct cate cate something for your audience in like no they look me I look a show you could like a show like a listening experience type thing another thing about me guys I’m very very shy and I’m you can do it in church scared of crowds you can do it in church you’ve done it before the like performances there’s the reason why I stopped have you ever that’s why I’m saying you can do it in church now yeah I mean Yeah, that’s true. I’m still thinking about it though. I I want to finish my album. Then you can do an album listening part. Yeah, that’s that was I want to finish then I’ll do listening back the day before the album because gosh. And people don’t even know creating an album takes time. Of course it takes time. Nobody’s expecting you to just release an album. No, some people just not to go and sing song. Oh, please. Now, if somebody just sing for you, you not enjoy the album. I mean this is your this is your first album so you have to sing for surface level I’m singing song for you at least you can dance to it but the thing is that if you want to put because in all my music I always put like hidden meaning stuff like that that if okay let’s let’s pretend now let’s pretend I had something with this girl girl A Mhm. Yeah. I don’t think this is pretty. I have something with girl A. And and girl A when I’m having stuff with girl A. Mhm. There’s something I always do. There’s something I always sing. There’s something I alwaysude to. Maybe music wise, maybe there’s a song that I I brought her I told her about or a song that I really love in that period. Because honestly, when I say I can’t live without music, I can’t live without music. My life is, you know how you have timestamps in YouTube videos? Instead of time stamps, I have songs. Songs that that meant something to you at a particular point in time. Well, they might mean, they might not mean anything, but there are songs that just they remind you of the faith. Yeah, they define that era of my life because I remember when I was in primary school and and what did I know? I didn’t know anything. But that era of my life, if you ask me to describe it, I I’ll tell you. I’m I’m being for real. Like honestly, that’s just that era because they were killing that song so much. That’s cool. Yeah. In everywhere, bro. But there are songs that basically do that. So when I do that, that person go a Yeah. When I’m writing a song, I’ll put some things like some Easter eggs of that song inside so that when that person listen if they listen to it, they’ll be like, “Oh, this thing is this thing is this, this is this.” And they’ll start like piecing things together. I make it easy for the person to understand to understand, but everybody else be like, “Let’s go. Let’s go.” Do you understand? That’s why I can’t do something. If you were witnessing your previous life, just listen to yourself. Don’t listen. He has something there for you. Okay. What advice would you give to someone who’s just starting out music now in this age and time? If you’re not doing it because you love it, stop. Please don’t do that. I’ll carry your TV and go. Okay. If you’re doing it because you don’t If you’re doing it because you want money or because you want fame, just stop. Just stop. So you believe passion over money? Yeah. I mean the money is cool and all but if you’re doing it because of the money you quit. Yeah. You can cause it to do things that you regret. It’s not even about doing things that you regret. So I’m just saying because you won’t get money until Yeah. You know when you start getting money. I can tell you now I have been releasing music Yeah. for almost 15 years. Yeah. But it’s not like you’ve not been releasing on the same level now. I mean Yeah. But then it’s like if somebody is starting out we don’t know where to put where to I mean at this stage at this age like in this age and time they know that okay Spotify Apple Music. Okay. Okay. M is I’ve been releasing music on Spotify for 7 to 10 years now under my old name and under this new name. Mhm. But I I got paid the first time I ever got paid was 2023. So if you’re doing it for the love of money, if you’re doing it for money, just go and get a job, bro. Get a job. You can get money quicker basically. Exactly. because you’re going to find out you’re going to find out that this music thing for for one stream they paying you 80 something um one stream 80 something cents or so does it apply to I don’t know better I don’t I doubt our own beh even even Spotify I had I was I was so mad because I got one of my songs got taken down but they still paid me for it. One of my songs got taken down. It had 2.7 million streams on Spotify and they so people don’t calculate your bank account. I will tell you how much they gave me from that thing. $80. $80. Why 80? Is it cuz they took it down? I think so. I don’t know why. Why did they take it down? I don’t know because I didn’t want to pay for dro kid anymore because the don’t use dro kid guys go look for another thing to use if you especially if you’re in Nigeria they will not pay you that money but they will ask you for tax um basically ask for a bunch of documentation that you don’t have at this point in time they can ask for marriage certificates of if you put single they will ask you for mar it’s just terrible like what do you you 1 RPM 1 RPM I don’t know this and whatever but basically it’s you need to love it before you start doing it nobody gets into music and say oh I’m doing it just go and blow of course there’s some people that do that and there are some anomalies that do it to blow and they actually blow but then how long do you want to sustain how how long do you want to sustain that you can blow for like two three and I’m not yet to blow for like two three years. That’s why I mean honestly I’m not asked about when I blow. Of course I would like it to be in my 20ies. Ideally 24 25 years. Yeah. But but I don’t I want to be I want to blow and keep continue being on that level. I’ll blow two three years and then nobody will hear my name again. When you blow this is your first official um interview as an artist. Sha sh pockets but I get what you mean sh I feel like um passion over money for a lot of things. Yeah. You just you have to have the passion the drive to keep going because what if the money doesn’t come doesn’t mean that you don’t do it and yeah at that point in time you’re just chasing money. Yeah. Chase happiness. Money will come. Did they say that? Yeah. No exactly. I don’t know what but they say chase something and money will come but yeah um do you have any goals and dreams you want your like how your you want your music career to go forward my number one release the album you said you wanted pressure guys the pressure but one goal at at this point in time is So I don’t want to headline is to perform at the OT O2 Arena. Bro, no. I just want to ask if you’re looking for somebody to open your show for you, call him. Please, please do call. He’s not that far. Like we are really close to like UK. You get there are direct flights from here. That’s my It’s not really expensive by that. Exactly. Because it’s like I just Bro, it’s it’s so amazing. But you think if you start like shows here you get more like public like people see that okay you actually perform that silence the thing with Georgia is so discouraging silence was a lot Georgia is so your Nigerian audience now you can start small a group of 100 people I mean yeah I mean I I understand but Georgia is so small bro the only place you would actually perform. You can’t just say, “Oh, let’s go do concerts or a performance somewhere outside.” You can really perform in this place is at the clubs. I don’t really even like club performances because those are not like actual performance. It’s just like appearance. Exactly. You just go there, they’ll play your song and you just be there shouting at the top of And I’m like, there’s no need for that. You should have seen me the first time I was in the club, bro. I was so quiet. I went up the stairs. Were you there? I wasn’t there. I was there. Yeah. I just went up. I went up with Mike and I was singing this song and they said jump get the cl and I said it’s not song. It’s a song of the art. So me I don’t really like I understand that I have to like do better and uh I just understand but then it’s like at the clubs especially in Georgia that nobody will really remember after they they’ve gotten wasted and stuff like that. John is done. So it’s very discouraging. I was in the UK now because while my brother my brother does Twitch he’s a Twitch streamer and he’s getting so many numbers. Why? because he goes out sometimes and he just like publicizes his publicize. Yeah. Publicizes his like his Twitches everything and it’s getting bigger and and I love it. The community is growing. It’s such a very tight-knit and strong community. But in Georgia, everywhere you look, somebody wants your downfall. I’m not even I mean I I really I really want to do an episode about the Nigerian community here in Georgia. I don’t know who I would have on that episode. What will I have you? I have a repeat guest. I don’t know how I I’ll have I’ll be open to having that kind of conversation without having been like fear of being dragged or being to be honest. My audience is not really here. So, I don’t care if I’m dragged. Do you know how many people have tried to drag me? I’ve gotten scared. I Yeah, I get you like you. It links to like the Nigerian community. There’s no really community here. It’s more like each man for himself. So when you hear something bad happens to each other, do you the first thing that comes when you hear something bad happens to your fellow brother? Yeah. The first thing that comes to your mind is how can I make this not happen to me and not how can I help this person that this happened to what do you think is the cause of that? There’s no sense of family in this country. Yeah, that’s what I mean. like every man for himself. And it’s really bad though because normally even like in schools there should be like African student associations those type of things and I’m just like why has nobody started this thing? Why don’t universities have like groups? Because if you see the Indians they have groups like I remember I think I was talking to an Indian friend and I saw um her there was like a group chat for Indians in my school and I was like this is cool. Why don’t Nigerians or even Africans in general in fact you can even do Africans then you can break it down Nigerians as Africans um Zimbabweans do you understand like why don’t we have that type of thing because everybody has been scared you know in scared by words in Nigeria there are lots of people Mhm. that do bad things there’s a lot of bad things and there are a lot of things that happened in this country that have been going around stuff like that. So when you hear that oh a country a particular sect of people want to form a group chat do this thing what do you think some people are going there to do everybody’s going there for different purposes just for community community some that is the last thing at the back of their mind but some people just want go there for shima some people are there for to find men for example if you there’s actually a Nigerian group chat I know I’m on you on but like it’s not a Nigerian it’s just publicize what you do it’s not a yeah I get that it’s just a it’s like what do they call it like a business platformish that’s what I consider as if you’re looking for something you’re looking for a vendor go and find it there you’re going to turn that community group chat into that one and that’s when you refer them to the one that’s already exist now you know there was a I think there was a community group digital creators and slowly people started leaving people started people left like they left the country now so they graduated and stuff so they left the group the group became destiny nobody and that was but I think that like people like somebody should come up with the idea of like African associations to you come up with the idea I don’t really I don’t really follow for this place like that call ah uh if you uh compared to me yes for you like I mean if there’s a group I will join definitely if I need to participate I’ll participate but if I want to say I want to start it like they have to have a certain level of crowd control that I don’t have that let me ask you a question that did you you’re on the group right that they said put um put your signature did you put it for what there was something that they wrote please sign your signature for um a petition against how the Georgiaian government is treating Nigerians. Really? Family. That group is archived in my to be honest. I do check it, but like I’ll go back to it. That’s what I mean. That group is mostly vendors now. So people don’t if you check most people’s phones, the group is muted. Do you understand? So like if you check most people’s phones except I’m looking for somebody to do something or looking for somebody that sells something I wouldn’t check the group. Do you understand? So if it’s if it’s that that’s why I’m like for a community there has to be like a separate group not for advertising business let them be like a separate I’m not even talking about oh general Nigerians one I’m talking about school like associations African associations in my school for example they did one but it was just for one cultural ide but like I don’t know like I mean it’s short basically you know when they close a group so people don’t say anything well it’s just Like I don’t I don’t I really don’t like that there’s no sense of community here. Everybody’s afraid of what the next man will do to you. But are you are you sure of what you will not do to the next one? You get that kind. You start on your school now. Why did you laugh? I didn’t laugh. I g But why would you start for the population of Nigerian school is a lot. It’s like a a big a very big number. Yeah, it is. to answer if you post it on your IG like people will join shy as for but you know that people will join you have a significant amount of people in this following you so people will join now especially from your school people will join try it you know you just brought me to you just made me very very what there are some people that can I talk about this yeah you can some people that just I don’t know you but you see me I was like oh my god oh my god how far blah blah I would just I’ll be forced to you know they know you as the artist now consider yourself a celebrity no not I know they know me as but they know me and they telling me things that you go this person this person told me about okay they different I’m Oh, that one they different. I don’t know you. I don’t know you. Who you be first? No, that one is different. Yeah. Remind me your name again. Don’t forget not tell me their name. I feel like this. So basically yeah if this is get a lot of traction from to people for me finished is it you are you finished I mean well that’s you come for me you add to my streams and be let us get monetized on YouTube if they come for me not no they check out your music now not all um what do you call it no publicity is bad publicity not Oh, publicity is I don’t even know how they put this But the more you get the more people get to know you, the more like get to check you out.
