初めてのインディーズネイルポリッシュ!✨👄✨ | スウォッチ、比較、そしておしゃべり!

Hi, hello. Welcome or welcome back. My name is Yanelli and today I’m going to be talking about my first indie polish on this channel, which is kind of crazy because as many of you know, I’m not one that’s like in the indie world. Like, I know they exist. I follow a couple pages and I’m pretty much a lurker when it comes to literally anything. But I decided to make my first purchase and it is with people of color. So, this was a two for one deal for me in the sense that this is a brand that I’ve been interested in for quite some time and just never committed to making a purchase. Again, I am predominantly a lurker. But two, they are currently running a campaign of sorts where they have a goal of selling 1,200 gift sets. And these gift sets were featured in Oprah Winfreyy’s favorite things, I believe. Not sure on the terminology of it, but essentially it’s a magazine issue and their products or specifically this gift set was featured in that magazine and unfortunately these units did not sell as intended and they had remaining stock of 2600. So, what the owner and founder of People of Color, Jackie, has calculated is that they need to sell 1,200 to pay off the outstanding amount for their manufacturer and to be able to replenish Basic Essentials and also re-release their Desi Vibes collection. So, I’m like, “Okay, this is a great opportunity to not only try this brand that I’ve been eyeing for years essentially, but also kind of help a little bit in their mission here. I’ll provide more information, how you can help and or if you want to try this brand too and want to make a purchase of this gift set. More of that will be in the final thoughts portion of this video. So, stay tuned for that. So, I do want to showcase the little box that it comes in. And I purchased mine off Amazon cuz that was the only place that I could make a purchase for this. And Jackie was able to get some of these units sent to her so she can put them on her website, the people of color website, and actually sell from directly from the brand versus going through Amazon. I get more information on that later on in the video. But yeah, so the gift set consists of three creme polishes and they come like this. They’re not the most secure. I’m not going to lie. Like the red was poking through the hole of this box, but when I got them off Amazon, it was bubble wrapped and everything, so it all worked out. But these easily come out. But you get three colors. It’s your standard, I would say. Like if you’re into some color, you get some reds. If you’re into a little bit more moody vibe, you get some dark brown. And then if you like a cleaner look, you get a nude shade. But yeah, it should be a quick mini swatch fest. And with that, let’s get into swatches. Up first, we have creme de la. And real quick, I do want to discuss the difference in the size brushes and the handle cap. So on the left, I have Holo Tacos polish. And in here, you can see that Holo Taco is that flat wide brush, whereas People of Colors is very short, but the bristles on the brush are much longer than what I’m used to. And also they’re a little bit thicker and fuller. So just a subtle difference here that will probably take me a while to get used to. Now creme de La is a nude neutral creme color. The name is short for creme dea caramel. And on the first coat, this applied rather nicely. It is a little patchy and I can’t say if it was because of the brush or because my nails are textured. This color for me on my skin tone definitely leans a little bit more pink, but I think this shade immediately is reminding me of being a good nude color option for those that like a more opaque base for nail art. So like negative space nail. If you don’t like the transparency effect of a jelly or crell nude bare base color, then this one would be a good option. I also see this color as being a safe for work. If your job has those strict apparel policies, like you can only wear a nude base color or solid colors like no glitter, like for the military folks, I definitely see this being a great option for y’all. The second coat gave me decent coverage, but I do see some dark areas on my nail, specifically where my indents are. And I did apply this on my finger to test on a smooth nail. And this polish likes to settle into my light vertical ridges that I have. But for me, on my pointer finger, I only needed two coats, and it provided smooth, even coverage on a nonbumpy nail like my thumb is. I did a third coat to see if it could cover up that dark, patchy spot that I had from the second coat, and I feel like it did. But something else I noticed in doing so is that you have to be careful with overworking the brush, because I did notice that if I continue to overwork it, the first or the previous coats that I’ve done would slowly be getting picked back up. So, be careful not to overwork the polish on this one. But overall, I felt like two to three coats does great coverage. If you have smoother nails, then two coats would definitely be enough. But yeah, this is a very cute shade. If you definitely want that clean aesthetic or clean vibe with it, it surprisingly suits me very nice and I enjoy it. Next up, we have Mother of Earth. And this is a nice chocolatey brown with some red undertones in the mix. On the first coat, it gave me really good color payout. The coverage was a little rocky as it is patchy. You could see where my last stroke was. And sadly, this didn’t even itself as nicely as I have wanted. I was hoping that the pooling that happened on the last stroke would even itself, but instead it dried as it was applied. However, the second coat did give me excellent coverage to where it completely covered up the patchiness and unevenness that the first coat had. And this for me, I felt like it was full coverage in just two coats. This formula isn’t thick at all. It’s a nice viscosity, not loose where it’s runny and not thick like how Holo Taco cremes are. I place this formula close to the Island Pe shimmer/ sparkly polishes. It’s not a creamy formula and honestly in the best way possible and with all due respect, watered down milk. I hope that description helps and doesn’t make it worse, but like I can’t figure out a nice way to describe the viscosity of it. And of course, I really really enjoy this polish. I love love love dark browns and this is no exception. Next up, we have Rodeo Drive. And this is a cool tone red polish that I’m lowkey kind of scared of. But I need you to look at this application. Do you see how smooth this applied? How even it applied? I’ve never had a red apply so cleanly before. Like no streakiness whatsoever. And I’m like losing my mind a little bit because I feel like I am a notorious red polish. like vibrant red polish disliker. I don’t know what it is about vibrant reds that make me slightly uncomfortable. I would like to blame the Halloween hot dog finger snacks. And if you’ve never associated that, I am sorry and you’re welcome. But usually bright reds are the ones that I don’t lean or gravitate towards whatsoever and honestly try to avoid. But I can admire such a clean application. However, I did do three coats because something interesting about this polish specifically is that it felt more jelly like than the other two did. And that was apparent to me by how visible my half moon was shown on my nail. Like I could see the outline. Even with three coats, I can see my half moon showing. And this to me makes it seem like this isn’t really a creme, but more of a curly/ jelly mixture. Maybe like even an in between of a curly and jelly, whatever that might be. But it build up nicely still and application of it was absolutely beautiful. Forget the red nail theory. Honestly, this color makes me feel so empowered and like nobody’s going to tell me what to do or how to do it kind of vibe with it and you can’t stop me type of attitude. So, I think this polish delivers that honestly. Moving on over to comparisons. Up first, I have creme de la lamel compared to holo tacos see you later try and holo tacos rust in peach. I chose rust and peach because I felt that creme de la lamel looked a little bit peachy on me and so I wanted to compare it next to a polish that is a peachy color of sorts. However, rest in peach is more of that pastel light orange like true pastel light orange. So not exactly like creme de la and then see you later chai is on its own over here. Moving on to Mother of Earth. I have here Holo Tacos Magical Mustache and Holo Tacos Brownie Points. So, I specifically chose these because they’re like my main brown creme, but I felt like Brownie Points was going to be the absolute closest to it. However, I do think that Mother of Earth just leans ever so slightly more red than Brownie Points does. And then, Magical Mustache is kind of like a meltdown version of the two. So, not in the same range. Then I have here holo tacos ginger snatched and island peace chocolate. And when compared next to each other, island peace chocolate is giving more milk chocolate whereas mother of earth is giving more of that dark rich chocolate. Then ginger snatch is more of this pinky leaning brown. So quite different, but they make really good Skittles options. Or if you’re looking for more fall Skittles or if you just like browns like me. Then for Rodeo Drive, I have here Island Peace Cherry and Hollow Tacos Left on Red. Now for me, the closest is Island Peace Cherry. The tonality of the red seem very similar. Even the curly jelly aspect of it where you can see that moon crescent on both fingers. Then hollow tacos left on red is more of a diluted red. It’s like it is vibrant, but when paired up next to these two, it’s not as vibrant, if that makes sense. And also the coverage of Left on Red is a full creme coverage, not so much of a Kurly jelly vibe. All right, that concludes my swatch and comparisons portion of this video. I’m curious what you all think of it. I know in the grand scheme of like indie world like creme are the least fascinating of them all, but again, I really wanted to try this brand and my two for one deal still stands for me. I am actually kind of surprised at how well the red polish performed because when I think of a red polish to me it’s an immediate oh this is going to be difficult kind of thing like it’s going to be streaky. It’s going to be uneven and I think of Halloween sausage fingers when I have it on. So like negative negative negative kind of thing. But this one surprised me so much. And I actually don’t mind the shade of red. It’s still a little off-putting. I have to like move past the Halloween sausage snack essentially. But I am very surprised and very pleased with this. However, I don’t love the brushes. I really dislike the brushes. They’re also long, longer than typical, and they’re also like more filled in, so they’re thicker. It makes it just ever so slightly hard to get close to the cuticle area and have like a nice clean look. Like I know I can go in with a cleanup brush and like clean it up, but it’s kind of nice to just be able to have like a rounded brush and then easily get in there without having to do extra work on the side. But yeah, I think this is a fun introductory set for me to get to this brand. Of course, I’m interested in more of the specialty finish polishes, but I’m also a creme lover regardless cuz I can make nail art with these. And I know I can make nail art with specialty polish, too. It’s just easier with creme. And I already have an idea or two of what I want to do cuz this set reminds me of like chocolate covered strawberries. So, I’m leaning towards that. But also, the red and the brown is giving me fall aspects and I kind of want to dig into that, too. So, like I love creme for their accessibleness and diversity essentially, like what we can do with them. And I’m glad I made the purchase. Honestly, I’m glad that I tried it out. I got to experience the brand. Now, here I am. So, how to purchase this gift set or if you want to help in some other way. I don’t want to make it seem like I want you to make a purchase. I am not a salesperson. That job is scary. Honestly, I don’t want to talk to people and try to sell them stuff. I can barely negotiate. I am scared to use a coupon. Let’s just say that if you cannot make a purchase cuz you yourself are on a no-by lowby, keep at it. I elected myself to break my noby. And I had the funds to get this gift set. It is $36 for the whole gift set. individually. Each polish is $12. So, do that with what you will. But again, I’m not here to say you should go purchase it. I had a huge debacle internally on whether or not I want to purchase this gives it. Like, I wanted to try this brand, but the colors realistically were not something I was looking for. These colors are colors that I already have within my collection, so it felt redundant for me to purchase them. And again, it was that like conflict internally where I want to support, I want to try this brand, but these colors are already within my collection. Eventually, obviously, I ended up purchasing it regardless of me having similar colors to this because I still wanted to try the brand, but also help. And that felt more validating for me. But like I talked with Evan, I had a discussion with him. I did research into the brand, like further research than I had initially done. And I didn’t see anything alarming such as like being antihuman essentially. It’s a great mission statement. It’s she made this brand because her daughter was getting into nail polish and she saw the lack of representation for dark skin tones and she wanted to have that representation not only for her daughter but for herself as well because she never envisioned her herself with nail polish either. where she built this brand with darker skin tones being at the forefront, not at the back end, not an afterthought, none of that. Like, this is with people of color in mind. This is not to say that like if you’re not a person of color, you can’t purchase this. That is not at all what she’s saying. In the beauty industry, and yes, nails are considered beauty. People of color tend to be an afterthought. Usually we see fair skin tones first and then when there’s some backlash or people commenting where’s the diversity then they bring the people of color. Sidetracking here kind of similarly to Jackie and her daughter story. When I first started doing nails I noticed that I was in the minority bracket of things like I don’t have the long slender fingers and long nails. I don’t have the fair skin tone and like the perfect hand model hands, right? Like my fingers are crooked and my fingers are a little on the chunky side. They’re what I would perceive as normal for me. But that’s not the case in the nail world, in the nail industry. Like you see those long slender fingers as the main like attraction, I guess, lack of better words. And even before I started YouTube and Instagram, I was looking for swatches like anybody else who’s trying to buy polishes, I want to know how this polish looks like on someone with my skin tone or similar to my skin tone, right? And I did not see that. I didn’t see my skin tone on YouTube and on Instagram. You It kind of has to be like I don’t know. You have to dig for it because sometimes again brands don’t think of people of color or variations of way hands look into their marketing for polishes. I think we’ve gotten better, or at least it feels like we’ve gotten better because I’ve now surrounded myself with brands and people who are people of color with different nail lengths, different finger sizes and styles and everything in between that in my little circle, it no longer feels like I’m ostracized essentially, but instead I am part of it. I am part of this community now. And so that’s I guess some lore of me. That’s the main reason I started YouTube is cuz I didn’t see someone with my skin tone, someone with my textured nails swatching this polish. Usually, it’s a lot of smooth nails or people have some overlay on it. But like the way a polish applies on a smooth nail compared to how it applies on a texture nail is completely different. As you all have seen on my swatch video, sometimes I require an additional coat in order to to get that like smooth, clean look versus someone with smoother nails might just need two coats, you know? So, I started my channel because I wanted to be the representation that I was looking for when I am looking for swatchers. But anyway, it’s not about me, it’s about people of color. All right, there’s two ways that you can purchase this gift set. The first one I already mentioned is Amazon. If you prefer Amazon shipping, you have Prime membership, all that stuff, you can order from Amazon and you will get it probably in like 2 days or so. And then if you get your package and it is damaged, you would then contact Amazon support, not people of color, because people of color did not package or ship that to you from the Amazon warehouse. The second option is ordering directly from people of color. Jackie was able to get some of the units from Amazon over to her and she is able to package and place the products on the people of color website and people can order it from there. Now, the cool thing with ordering from the actual brand site is that you don’t have to get the whole gift set. You can just choose individual polishes and whatever else they have in stock. This is where I’m a little confused if the campaign is for the gift set wholesale only or if it still helps in selling the polishes individuals. That I’m not certain on. Yeah, I think it’s Jackie and her family. They package it for you. They ship it out. There is a $5 flat rate fee for shipping costs when you purchase from people of color. So, the 36 becomes 41 and that’s not including taxes for your state or county. But just know that you are ordering directly from the people of color brand and not using a third party or middleman like Amazon. But regardless of which option you go with, you would be helping Jackie with her campaign goal essentially. So again, I don’t want you to make a purchase if it’s not something you’re interested in, if it’s not something like you vibe with, if the colors aren’t for you and or you’re on a low or no buy, like you are not obligated to make a purchase. And if you would like to support for the free, you can head over to People of Color’s Instagram page, comment, like, and share their content, spread the word. If you so want to, again, I am not trying to say you need to do this. No, never want to force it on you or anyone else that you have to make a purchase or that you have to go out of your way to help. That is not my intent. I hope that makes sense. And if you need any more clarifications, I highly recommend honestly going to People of Color’s Instagram page. They have a lot of information there. Since this is my first indie polish swatch on this channel, I don’t have a dedicated playlist. So, just hit my profile over here and uh you have full range of what to watch. Well, anyway, thank you so much for watching and hang out with me and I’ll see you in the next one. Bye.

  2. they're really pretty on you! especially mother of earth, it's like a dark, bitter coffee, it's stunning. my first and only indies have been from someone's destash, gotta say I was happy I didn't pay full price as they weren't as exciting on my nails as they looked in the bottle. "I'm sorry and you're welcome" 😂

  3. I never wore polish then I saw Mooncat sin eater on someone and really liked it so I ordered it. That started my love of polish but I went right down indie rabbit hole. My first indie was from Cuticula. I really like the brand.

  4. I'm so interested in this brand, that red!!❤ I agree, diversity is so important in the beauty industry! I love brands that have 30-70 pictures showing 1 polish on so many people and different lighting, I get so mad now when a shop is just a drop on paper or 1 person 😂 also Thank you for making videos, not only do I love the way you show polishes in different ways, but you represent my skin imo and I made some happy purchases based on your swatches 🫶

  5. Everyone deserves access to participating in the world and engaging with polish, art, makeup, all of it! Thank you for spotlighting this brand. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out to see if a color grabs my attention.

  6. These are really pretty colors. That brown is so pretty. Lol 😂 i have never associated halloween sausage fingers to red polish before 😅 lol. I love your swatches and glad to see your videos with your hands and nail swatches. Thanks for representing!

  7. Wow I haven’t heard about this brand in a minute. I remember 5 ish years ago they collabed with a bunch of nail artists. Nice to see they’re still around and making pretty colors.
