マイケル・クライトンの原作をスティーヴン・スピルバーグが監督して実写映画化した第1作は、アニマトロニクスとCGを使用したリアルな恐竜が話題を呼び、記録的大ヒットとなった。アカデミー賞では特殊効果賞など3部門で受賞を果たしている。
遺伝子工学の発展で太古の琥珀に閉じ込められたDNAから蘇った恐竜たちが棲息するテーマパークが大富豪ハモンドの手で作られた。これをオープンする前に現地であるコスタリカの沖合の孤島に招待された古生物学者のグラント、サトラーと数学者のマルコム。目の前に現われた本物の恐竜たちに驚愕する彼らは、同時に一抹の不安にも襲われた。パーク内は厳重に管理されているはずだったが、恐竜の胚を盗もうとしたスタッフのせいで、閉じ込められていたはずの恐竜たちが解放されてしまう。ハモンドの孫たちと体験ツアーに出ていたグラントらは、嵐の迫る中、獰猛な恐竜たちに狙われる事態に……
グラント役にはサム・ニール、サトラーにはローラ・ダーン、マルコムにはジェフ・ゴールドブラムが扮し、彼らはシリーズを通して重要なキャラクターとなる。登場する恐竜はティラノサウルス、ヴェロキラプトル、ガリミムスなど多数。視覚効果はフィル・ティペット、ILMのデニス・ミューレンといったトップアーティストが招聘された。

『ロスト・ワールド／ジュラシック・パーク』（1997）
孤島で生き延びていた恐竜たちがアメリカ本土に上陸！
前作の大ヒットを受けて4年ぶりに製作された続編。原作も前作同様マイケル・クライトンだが、小説執筆と映画製作がほぼ同時進行で、内容が異なる箇所もあるが、スティーヴン・スピルバーグが今回も監督を務め、本シリーズにかける意欲を感じさせる。
前作から4年後、恐竜たちを供給する遺伝子工場だったが閉鎖されたサイトBのあるイスラ・ソルナ島にマルコムが生き延びた恐竜調査のため呼び出される。彼自身は拒否するが、恋人の古生物学者サラが先に乗り込んでいるという。渋々現地入りしたマルコムだが、こっそりついてきた彼の娘ケリーや、調査隊一団、さらには恐竜ハンター団まで上陸し、ハモンドから会社を継いだ甥のルドローの策略でTレックス親子が捕獲され、輸送船でアメリカ本土に運ばれる事態に。しかしこれがサンディエゴを大パニックに陥れる結果に…。
前作を上回る数の恐竜たち、パワーアップしたアクション、特撮シーンの連続で、ハラハラの展開。マルコム役のゴールドブラムに加え、サラ役のジュリアン・ムーア、調査隊のニック役のヴィンス・ヴォーン、恐竜ハンターのローランド役のピート・ポスルスウェイトらが新登場。ティラノサウルス、ヴェロキラプトルのほか、ステゴサウルス、トリケラトプスなど恐竜の種類もさらに増えている。

『ジュラシック・パークⅢ』（2001）
恐竜たちの巣窟に救出作戦に向かう一行が前代未聞の危機に
シリーズ第3作で、今回は基本的に原作者クライトンの小説から離れ映画独自のストーリーが展開。スピルバーグは製作総指揮に回り、『遠い空の向こうに』のジョー・ジョンストンが監督を担当。脚本の一人にアレクサンダー・ペインが参加している。
発掘研究を続けていたグラントの元に冒険家夫妻のポールとアマンダが、恐竜が棲息するイスラ・ソルナ島を空から探索するためガイドを依頼してくる。研究費に苦心していたグラントは心ならずもこれを承諾。だが夫妻の本当の目的はパラセイリングの事故で島に漂着した息子の捜索だった。夫妻はグラント以外にも救出隊を雇っており、助手のビリーとやってきたグラントが気づいたときにはすでに時遅く、一行はサイトB付近に強行着陸。だがサイトAしか知らないグラントはここで前回体験していない危機に立ち向かうことになる。恐竜たちは自然繁殖を行っており、初めて遭遇する巨大恐竜とも対峙することに…。
グラント役のニールが復帰を果たすほか、サトラー役のダーンもカメオ出演。恋仲になったはずの2人はこの時点では別々の道を歩んでいる。ポール役はウィリアム・H・メイシー、アマンダ役はティア・レオーニ、ジョー役はアレッサンドロ・ニヴォラが演じる。今回はスピノサウルス、プテラノドンなどの恐竜も新登場。
