media outlets in the last couple of days that have reported that Tetssuya Hayashida the president and the acting owner of the Tokyo you called Swallows he has said publicly about Munitaka Murakami’s desire to be posted and play Major League Baseball that the club intends to allow him to pursue to a move to Major League Baseball that’s from MLB.com and Hashita said “If he wishes for it we are willing to submit a posting system application for him our hope is for him to succeed he supported the team so much in a short period of time and made such a big contribution he’s a player we care about.” So if you have been following the posting system and the Japanese stars over the years I’m pretty sure the first name that popped into your head right now was Roki Susaki because the Chimalote Marines they weren’t saying these things about him because they didn’t think he contributed enough he still was able to get out he’s a Dodger now but they feel about Makami that he’s done that he hit 56 home runs back in 2022 for the NPB and after he did that and play in the WBC there was a lot of attention that was given to him about his future and he hasn’t reached 9 years of service time and so he’s currently rehabbing so he’s going to get a lot of interest because of the potential that he’s shown it’s going to be interesting to see how many teams are lining up cuz I think that teams covet their pitching more in their position players we all saw like say a Suzuki and guys like that have success and Hashi said depending on how MLB teams evaluate him murakami will likely reconsider his options no matter what kind of decision he makes we want to be there for him to support and advise him as needed so a couple things you need to know about the Murray Combi situation is one if he wants to go they’re going to let him go two has not been healthy so it’s tough to evaluate the current player that he is if he can get back finish out this season as and get as many games as possible it’ll give you an idea but his numbers have gone down in the last couple of seasons and also the main thing is his defensive fit there’s some people that I’ve spoken with that tell me that he’s more of a DH he’s more of a first baseman and not necessarily a third baseman at the big league level but like I said at the top of this is that the Dodgers they value offense over defense so if he could just be Maxy level maybe they think they could get him at a at a reasonable contract and maybe they like the upside just because he’s younger i mean he’s just 25 years old he’s 25 years old and since that season where he had 56 home runs I mean when he’s been healthy he’s been a 30 home run guy in 23 he hit 31 home runs 24 he hit 33 home runs 851 OPS last time we saw him at a at full strength so it’s just something to keep your your attention keep your eyes out for it the future of the third baseman position is one of the big questions for the Dodgers i just want to get ahead of that on this show based on what Maxy has said and look this is a team that that has said they want to paint Japan blue and they’ve already done that joey Otani Yoshino Yamamoto Roki Sasaki but now it’s an opportunity to potentially go after a position player that if he wanted to be a Dodger you had to believe they could make that happen i’ve heard the Yankees are a team that has the advantage over the Dodgers right now but I think that it largely depends too on what could change there would be how badly would the Dodgers want if the Dodgers decide they wanted him that changes everything right cuz they could run the fullcourt press you get Show Otani involved and things like that so it’s a possibility i’m just saying it’s a possibility but I think the best situation for Max Muny is just producing for the rest of the season and he wants to get a multi-year deal so it’s going to be really interesting and if you get him back at $10 million uh that’s a fantastic steal a 30 home run guy you just got to get his defense back but that is a big question heading into the offseason who will be the third baseman of the Dodgers in 2026 because they got a lot of directions they can go right now things are trending in the right direction for Max my but lot of season to go and this is a Dodgers organization that’s going to continue to try to get better and make moves that they think will help them in the short term and the long term so we’ve seen that too so big question just some fruit for thought for today the 3B position all right coming up next i spent a lot of time doing these
