2022年に世界的大ヒットを記録した『トップガン／マーヴェリック』。大空を飛び交う戦闘機アクションを描いたスタッフチームが再集結して描くのは、究極の地上戦ともいえるF1®️（エフワン＝フォーミュラワン）レースの世界だ。F1®️を題材にした映画は、F1®️レーサー、ジェームス・ハントとニキ・ラウダのライバル関係を描いた2013年の『ラッシュ／プライドと友情』以来だろうか。

かつて、アイルトン・セナやアラン・プロストといった伝説のレーサーたちと激闘を繰り広げた過去を持つベテランドライバーが、ブラッド・ピット演ずるソニー・ヘイズ。かつての盟友であるルーベンからの依頼で、現在最弱と呼ばれているAPX GPというチームに1レーサーとして復帰することに。チームには現在のエースドライバー、若手のジョシュア・ピアースがいたが、どちらがエースドライバーになるか、ジュシュアはソニーに対抗心を燃やす。
レースは世界各地を転戦、ソニーはチームを上位に引き上げるためにさまざまな手法をこらす。それはかなり乱暴な反則行為すれすれのものでもあったが、ソニーの策略でチームはポイントを稼ぎ、上位チームに少しづつ迫っていく。そんなおり、ジョシュアがソニーのレースプランをないがしろにしたためレース中にクラッシュ。
ジョシュアを欠く中、レースシーズンは続いていき、APX GPチームの躍進もこれまでか、と思われた。だが数カ月後、ジョシュアがレース復帰、再びチームAPX GPの進撃が始まっていく。紆余曲折あり、その年のF1®️レースの最終戦となる第24戦、アブダビGPの日がやって来る・・・。

F1®️史上最多タイの7度のチャンピオンを獲得し、優勝回数も最多のルイス・ハミルトンが全面協力、プロデュースに参加し、彼の実体験を基にしたようなストーリーも展開。レースシーンは実際にF1®️グランプリを開催中のサーキットでも撮影。日本の鈴鹿サーキットでも撮影されており、まだこの映画の情報が極秘だったため、メディアでは「何の撮影をしているのか？」と話題になっていた。
最高速は380km／hを超え、コーナリングでドライバーにかかる横G（重力加速度）はなんと6G（日本国内トップクラスのジェットコースターでも最大4.25Gだ）。運転席の室内温度は摂氏60度にもなるという苛酷さ。そんなコクピットの中でドライバーたちはチャンピオンを目指して戦う。
