【Japan Through My Eyes】Ep.2:This funny show changed how I see English
hello everyone it’s Vicki here today I want to talk about a Japanese TV show that has become a big part of my life and my family’s weekly routine it is called [Music] about communication language and even parenting so let me introduce the show first maybe it will become your favorite too literally means let’s go to the ends of the world and ask a questions it’s a long raining Japanese variety show that started in 2007 aired every Sunday night the basic idea is like this a group of comedians and celebrities as they travel around the world and to challenge themselves with wild strange and something touching activities it is hosted by orang who is kind and hilarious at some time there are regular members like uh Miyagawa who uh joins festivals in other countries and Emoto who climbs dangerous mountains and finds rare animals and of course the one and only Deava who goes on English missions abroad the charm of ETQ is not just the activities but how these celebrators who are not professionals in any of these but they try their best they fail they laugh at themselves and keep going they are not perfect in fact that is the point they are messy they are clumsy awkward and that’s why we love them they go to weird festivals sleep in mud or misp pronunciation in English but they do it with full love of energy and often with a big heart also the editing the sound effects the subtitles and the narration everything is so perfect so well done even my twoyear-old daughter can enjoy it just by watching them in my family Sunday night is it night we all sit on the couch eat dinner together and laugh sometimes if there is no episode that week we feel a bit sad like something is missing we love all the members you know uchang is like a calm dad and Imoto is like a brave big sister and Miyagava is the you know friendly uncle who always fails but never gives up and uh Deava he is like that clumsy neighbor who somehow you know always wins your heart we love so much together and my older daughter now you know she will imitate Deava’s English something like she will say do you know fle just like Deava’s pronunciation it is hilarious and also kind of sweet now here is the part I really want to share when I watch Deawa trying to speak English you know with his funny pronunciation and wrong grammar and sometimes just a one or two words I realized something very important i think it’s like language you know doesn’t have to be perfect to work what matters is how you say it deawa makes people laugh feel safe and they like to connect with him even if he only says B or many many people people understand him and they smile they help him because they feel his heart and uh honestly that is what communication is really about it is also reminded me of something like a mom when a baby is born they don’t know any words right but when they hear their mother’s voice their father’s voice their family’s rhythm they slowly start to understand not from you know grammar books not from vocabulary lists but from connection and eventually they start to speak with confidence with love with joy i think the same is true for adults we don’t have to study forever before we speak we can speak with whatever we have right now just like Deava so here is what it have given me a weekly moment of happiness with my family a reminder that laughter is power and a lesson you don’t need perfect words to connect whether you are learning English Japanese Chinese or any other language don’t wait for perfection be brave be real be like Deawa be like me because communication isn’t just about language it’s about emotion rhythm and courage so so much thank you for it for teaching me this and thank you for listening if you ever felt nervous about speaking in another language I hope this give you a little encouragement and uh let your heart do the talking see you next time bye-bye
