This time it’s a trip to Shizuoka. After arriving at Narita Airport, head to Tokyo Station. Transfer to the Shinkansen at Tokyo Station heading to Shizuoka. This is my first time taking the Tōkaidō Shinkansen at Tokyo Station. I purposely chose a seat on the right side, hoping to see Mt. Fuji. Unfortunately, Mt. Fuji didn’t show up at all. This is my first time in Shizuoka. It feels pretty lively here. Heading to the hotel for today. Stayed at Toyoko Inn Shizuoka Station North Exit, ¥6555 for Friday night. Room facilities. Standard Toyoko Inn room type. Very clean, not old at all. Bathroom—no showerhead. The exterior view. By the time I arrived, it was already evening, so I decided to have dinner first. I wanted to eat oden. Found a recommended store, Kaibōzu. The two stores are connected, but you have to queue at the main store first. The second store has smoking seats. Shizuoka Oden. Ordering from the tablet is very convenient, no worries about communication issues. They have a wide variety of items. Fried skewers, grilled items, fried foods. Dumplings, oden. I ordered Shizuoka oden and dumplings. Otoshi (appetizer) is a must-order and comes with an extra charge. Walnuts and dried anchovies. I didn’t expect much, but it turned out to be delicious. This shop really puts in effort. The dumplings were average, but they were tasty. The Shizuoka oden was served with a heater to keep it warm. They use a heater to keep it warm. It was delicious, I’ll definitely come back. But eating alone feels a bit lonely. Everyone around me was eating with friends and it looked like so much fun. Good morning. The second day, I woke up early to see Mt. Fuji. Checked the weather forecast, today will be nice but it will rain tomorrow. Looks like I’ll need to visit more places today. At 05:55, head toward Mishima and take a train to Fuji Station. At Fuji Station, change trains and head to Platform 1. Take the train to West Fujinomiya. Get off at Iwamatsu Station. As soon as you get off, you can see Mt. Fuji. This time, it’s a cherry blossom viewing trip. Before leaving, I did some research on a few places I wanted to visit. Ryūganfuchi. I didn’t expect there to be so many people. It’s only 7:10 in the morning. I woke up really early, but I didn’t expect so many people to be there earlier than me. It’s so beautiful. Walked for fifteen minutes from the station. Not talking much, just enjoying the cherry blossoms. So beautiful. Changed the camera to take a shot. There’s a platform set up for everyone to walk up. Is the view better from the platform? There are so many people below. Let me go down and check. The weather is nice early in the morning. Mt. Fuji and the cherry blossoms by the river. So beautiful. Worth coming early in the morning. Changed the camera to zoom in and take a shot. Stayed for about 40 minutes and now it’s time to leave. More and more people are coming. The bridge is crowded with people. Walking back, looking at the cherry blossoms and Mt. Fuji, my mood lifted. The feeling of walking through the cherry blossom tunnel. Such clear bird sounds. Took one last shot of the cherry blossoms and Mt. Fuji. From the pedestrian bridge at Iwamatsu Station, you can get a complete view of Mt. Fuji. Heading to the next station. Fuji-Momiya Station. Still early, so I’ll visit the shrine first. The shrine and Mt. Fuji make a beautiful combination. This is also a great spot for cherry blossom viewing. The cherry blossoms are planted along both sides of the approach. Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha, the third Torii gate. There are a few stalls here as well. According to the record of Fujisan Hongu Sengen Shrine… During the reign of the 7th Emperor Kōrei, Mt. Fuji erupted on a large scale. The surrounding residents scattered as a result. And the area remained barren for a long time. In the third year of the 11th Emperor Suinin’s reign, he enshrined the deity of Sengen at the foot of the mountain. This became the origin of the large shrine. Both sides are filled with cherry blossoms. Enjoying it all at once. The main gate. Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha. This is the head shrine of about 1,300 Sengen shrines across Japan. It is the center of Mt. Fuji worship. The main hall. Inside the shrine, the shrines. The cherry blossoms in the shrine are in full bloom. There are sacred lotes. Let me pick one. The sacred lotes are located behind the shrine at the Mizuyu Shrine. I’ll pay my respects. The small river nearby is perfect for soaking. You need to soak longer for the writing to become clear. The sacred lotes resemble Mt. Fuji. Yukyu Pond So clear! The Japanese people nearby keep saying the water is so clean. Inari Shrine, Sacred Bridge, Itsukushima Shrine The water is really clean. Torii and the pond Several people are taking photos in front of the torii. Let’s go and take a look. So beautiful! I stood here for a full ten minutes. The path around the shrine is lined with cherry trees. And the sound of the nearby Kanda River flowing. It’s worth visiting even when the cherry blossoms aren’t in bloom. Oh no, the clouds are slowly coming out. They’re going to block Mount Fuji. Let’s head to the next location. We’ve arrived at the next location. It’s surprisingly close from the shrine. We got here in less than ten minutes. It only took ten minutes to walk here, but the clouds completely blocked Mount Fuji. Mount Fuji reflected on the surface of the water. World Heritage Mount Fuji’s components Consisting of the shrine, the lake, and the hiking paths. Entrance fee: 300 yen. Walk up the curved path. There are many introductions about Mount Fuji on the walls. Different views of Mount Fuji. 3rd floor of the North Building. You can leave a message on a note. Express your feelings about visiting this place. You can pull out the drawers. Various introductions of Mount Fuji, with explanations in Chinese. Mount Fuji’s panoramic observation hall. Unfortunately, it’s blocked by clouds, so it’s not visible. It barely shows a little bit. The screening room has three themes, with screenings every 15 minutes. There’s a sales area on the first floor. Mugs. How interesting! What’s this? Mount Fuji Pyramid. Mount Fuji shaped paper cups and magnets. Lucky Torii. Reverse Hourglass. Unexpectedly, after leaving, Mount Fuji appeared. Let’s take a look before we go. Mount Fuji and the Torii. We’re back at Fuji-miya Station. Next, we arrived at Mishima Station. There’s a long line. Turns out this station connects to Lake Kawaguchi. We’re heading to the Mishima Skywalk. Bus stop #5. The timing is perfect; the bus is ready to depart. Hurry, let’s get on. It takes about 50 minutes from Mishima Station, a bit of traffic on holidays. Without traffic, it takes about 30 minutes. Ticket price: 1300 yen. The view of Mount Fuji is a major highlight. It’s a pity there’s a lot of clouds. Japan’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge, 400 meters long. Let’s go. Walking while admiring Mount Fuji. It’s a Sunday, so there are quite a few people. The suspension bridge feels extra wobbly. You can also pay extra for activities. They look really fun. Zip line. Various activities. On the other side of the bridge, there’s a restaurant and a shop. The seating area seems a bit limited. You need to buy tickets in advance for the activities. There are limits on the number of people and time. If you want to participate in the activities, it’s better to come on weekdays. Observation deck. Looking at the suspension bridge, Mount Fuji, and the people coming and going. This is also quite nice. You can also see Suruga Bay from here. Looking at the map introduction. Turns out you can get to Hakone from here. It feels really close. It takes only 20 minutes by bus from here to Hakone. Yes, that’s right. I’ve arrived in Hakone. I suddenly had the urge to come here. In less than five minutes, the clouds cleared up. What great luck! Changing cameras to take a picture. Time-lapse photography. I forgot to mention the bus stop. The bus stops at the Hakone Port (バス). It’s also where you take the pirate ship. The return bus is also here. The bus stop also goes to other destinations. Mishima Station, at the number 5 bus stop. Walk along Lake Ashi towards Hakone Shrine. Hakone Shrine, the third torii gate. The reason I wanted to visit Hakone Shrine is that the first time I went abroad on a tour, the first stop was Hakone Shrine. I was drawn to the scenery here. Since then, I’ve always wanted to come back. I didn’t expect it to be so close to Mishima. Without much thought, I just came directly. An unexpected trip to Hakone during my Shizuoka trip. The purification fountain. Hakone Shrine, goshuin (shrine stamps). Not getting the goshuin was one of the regrets from that time. After all, time was limited on the group tour, but I didn’t miss it this time. To get to Hakone Shrine, you first have to climb this long staircase. I’m almost there. Hakone Shrine has been revered since ancient times as the guardian deity of the Kanto region, Hakone Daigongen. It is a spiritually powerful shrine that prays for good fortune,
protection from evil, the fulfillment of wishes, and forming connections. During the Heian period, with the opening of the Tōkaidō Road, many samurai, including Sakanoue no Tamuramaro and Minamoto no Yoritomo, visited to pray. The large drawing of a horse for the Year of the Snake. I drew a fortune and it was “Great Blessing.” I’m so happy! Kuzuryū Shrine, the new shrine. The history of Kuzuryū Shrine. Next, let’s go to the next destination. Walk down the stairs we just climbed for the visit. Keep walking down to the lakeside. The large torii gate by Lake Hakone is over here. There are a lot of people waiting in line. There are so many people, it’s a bit exaggerated. I’ll just admire from afar. Heading back now, getting ready to catch the bus. The bus comes every hour, so make sure to check the schedule. If you miss it, you’ll have to wait another hour. Here comes the pirate ship on Lake Ashi. Unfortunately, Mount Fuji has disappeared again. Bus boarding point. To go back to Mishima Station, board at the number 5 bus stop. Getting on the bus now. The one-way fare to Mishima Station is 1280 yen. The next day, I changed hotels to APA in Shizuoka Station North. Let’s check out the room and facilities first. The reason I changed hotels is because I suddenly had an extra day off. I quickly changed my flight, but the change fee wasn’t cheap. I also wanted to try staying in a different hotel. I stayed in the South building. Honestly, it’s a bit old. I stayed for two nights on Saturday for 18,800 yen. Considering the price, it’s still reasonable. After dropping off my luggage, I’m going out for dinner. Saturday night, it started to get lively. There’s also a Don Quijote nearby. Hinoya Curry. It’s delicious, so I’ll eat here. Ordering from the vending machine. Suddenly, there’s Shizuoka curry. I don’t know what to choose. I’ll go with the most basic one. Curry with fried pork cutlet. You can choose a side dish. Bar seating. The interior of the shop. Fried pork cutlet curry. Let’s eat. The curry has a bit of black pepper. It tastes mildly spicy and very smooth. The pork cutlet is freshly fried and still piping hot. The sauce is also delicious, with just the right thickness. Every time I come here, I always finish the whole plate. Hinoya Curry currently has a branch in Kaohsiung. If you’re interested, you can try it. Let’s take a walk around Shizuoka Station and see what shops there are. Supermarket. TULLY’S COFFEE Welica Pharmacy There are also many restaurants to choose from in the station Taiwanese Xiaolongbao I’m curious about what they actually sell Shumai, Xiaolongbao, Ramen Kamakura Pasta – This place has a long line An Italian pasta shop Muji, 500 Speaking of Shizuoka, I have to mention Chibi Maruko-chan Chibi Maruko-chan merchandise So many different expressions On the other side, they sell local specialties and bento It’s a bit like the underground shopping area in Tokyo Station There’s also Matsumoto Kiyoshi on the other side If you can’t find something, you can check this place Day 3 On the streets of Shizuoka, you will see model frames in different shapes Shizuoka City is the world capital of models Many model factories such as Tamiya and Bandai are located here Making Shizuoka Prefecture the number one city for model production Tokugawa Ieyasu’s armor The first stop today is Sunpu Castle There are a lot of cherry blossoms around the moat I’m even more excited to see the cherry blossoms fully bloom inside the castle Sunpu Castle was started by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1585 After abdicating, he returned to Sunpu to prepare the castle and city The castle’s main keep was completed in 1610 Becoming a symbol of the Tokugawa shogunate’s stable rule It was once abandoned after the Meiji Restoration Later, the city of Shizuoka took over and gradually restored it Now, it is a historical park for citizens and tourists to relax So many cherry blossoms There are also many street vendors Not sure where to start, I’ll just wander around So many cherry blossoms – it’s really a great spot for cherry blossom viewing Came early in the morning, and there aren’t many people, so I can enjoy it peacefully Weeping cherry tree This one is blooming beautifully Let me try the other side There are many different varieties, some are white and some are pink Each has its own beauty Birds eating the cherry blossoms I like this small area in the castle The pond is surrounded by cherry trees The timing is perfect, the flowers are fully blooming, I’m lucky Walking toward the Honmaru area So many street vendors There are more vendors than cherry blossoms It all smells like food Enjoying food while watching the cherry blossoms is one of the pleasures. There are too many vendors, they’ve surrounded the cherry blossoms. So many crows. I see people already spreading mats and reserving spots. Sunpu Castle is quite a nice spot for cherry blossom viewing. It’s time to leave. The weather is not great today. I wonder if I’ll be able to see Mount Fuji. The pigeons are eating feed. The pigeons are drinking water. Shizuoka City attractions. Next, I’m heading to Nihondaira. Bus stop 11 at Shizuoka Station North Exit. The bus comes once every hour. I’ve reached the final stop, Nihondaira Ropeway. Check the return bus times first, it’s once every hour. Next to it is Nihondaira Dream Viewpoint. Let’s go check it out first. Free to visit. It’s raining, so it looks like I won’t be able to see Mount Fuji. Display screen. It’s quite well done, with various subtitles. It explains the history of Nihondaira. I’m outside at the observation deck now. There are too many clouds, so I can’t see Mount Fuji. Such a shame. The square below has cherry blossoms blooming. It would be great if I could see both Mount Fuji and the cherry blossoms at the same time. Let’s walk around and have a look. From here, you can see Shizuoka city. I’ve waited for ten minutes, but it seems like I won’t have a chance to see Mount Fuji. I’ll come again next time. Ropeway station. If you look closely, there are also many cherry blossoms here. It would be perfect if it wasn’t raining. Preparing to take the ropeway. I came too early, the stores aren’t open yet. I’ll come back later and see what’s worth buying. Ropeway tickets are sold on the basement floor. The ropeway goes down to Kunouzan Toshogu Shrine. Map introduction. Kunouzan Toshogu Shrine has a separate entrance fee. It’s more cost-effective to buy the worship ticket. Omamori (protective charms). Looking closely, I noticed that the omamori are also designed as model frames. Ropeway. I’ve reached the bottom, but the rain makes visibility poor inside the ropeway. Map of Kunouzan Toshogu Shrine. Welcome to Kunouzan. Tokugawa Ieyasu spent his later years in Sunpu (modern-day Shizuoka City). He passed away here in 1616. Before his death, Ieyasu specifically instructed his retainers. Bury my remains at Kunozan. The second shogun, Tokugawa Hidetada, immediately followed his will. He ordered the construction of a shrine at Kunozan to honor Tokugawa Ieyasu. This is the origin of the Kunozan Toshogu Shrine. It was designated as a National Treasure of Japan in 2010. The shrine hall. Looking down from the shrine hall, even in the rain, many people are still coming. Continuing to walk toward the back mountain. The temple. The temple built to house the remains of Tokugawa Ieyasu. The money tree. If you look closely, each shogun represents a different family crest. It turns out there are differences. You can also choose to walk down the mountain without taking the cable car. Originally, I planned to walk down and then take the bus to Miho-no-Matsubara. Unfortunately, due to the rain, I couldn’t see Mount Fuji, so I had to change my plans. Took the cable car back up the mountain. I happened to see an advertisement introducing Taipei. Time for souvenir shopping. Chibi Maruko-chan. A cup with a Fuji Mountain design. I miscalculated the bus time, but there happens to be a restaurant here. I’ll just have lunch here. The view from the window seat is nice. The Great Shogun’s Meal, 1500 yen. Let’s eat. Adding a bit of salt makes the noodles taste better. I didn’t expect much at first. But the noodles are really delicious. It’s smooth and goes down easily. Adding salt enhances the taste even more. The noodles have the right firmness, with a slight fragrance. I looked it up and found out that they knead soybean flour into the buckwheat noodles. It’s really delicious, I can’t stop eating. The green onion rice has bonito flakes, green onions, and eggs. Adding a little soy sauce. This meal is delicious and suits my taste. Highly recommended. Time to look for Chibi Maruko-chan. Take the bus from the west exit of the station. Wait at bus stop No. 3. This is an incorrect demonstration. Because I found out on the way back, there’s a free shuttle bus, super convenient. However, this bus can still reach Miho-no-Matsubara, so it’s still somewhat useful. It has a display screen, which is very convenient. You can clearly see when the next bus is coming. After getting off, you still need to walk to get there. S-PULSE DREAM PLAZA. The shuttle runs frequently, and the pick-up spot is on the first floor of the mall. The drop-off location is at Shimizu Station East Exit. It’s a little clearer from the top. Queue up under the white roof area below. Sadly, Mount Fuji never showed up today. Preparing to head back to Shizuoka. Shizuoka Station underground mall, with tea shops. Whenever I don’t know what to eat, I always come here. In-store environment. Ordered a soba set. Let’s eat some noodles and dip them in the sauce. The taste is just like ordinary 7-11 soba noodles. Can’t help it, the noodles from lunch were so delicious, hard to forget. The fried food part is standard. The sauce isn’t too salty. The food is decent. You can refer to this place when you’re not sure what to eat. Finishing up in Shizuoka, preparing to head to the train. I originally wanted to stay longer, but Mount Fuji still didn’t show up. Changing plans and heading towards Osaka. Let’s see what’s available on the Shinkansen. Starbucks, convenience stores. There’s also a train bento shop. Heading towards Osaka. Thanks for watching.
