[Applause] thank you for having me it is it is such a pleasure such a pleasure so happy to be here huge fan of Shogun and I loved your performance as Lord tanaga thank you um I’m not the only fan out there the show has received 25 Emmy nominations including you for lead actor in the drama congratulations on that thank you so much thank you so how did you like how did you find out how did you celebrate uh actually I watched a uh video oh no no no TV oh the stream they announc and uh announced for the nomination and I was surprised you know is this true so but right after that you know a lot of people text me calling me producers friends coworkers and then little by little oh maybe it’s real oh my gosh so all day texting phone call email back then finally at night I opened the small champagne myself [Applause] the um the premiere episode got 9 million views which is an enormous number these days and I’m are you were you surprised by how quickly the show was embraced yes very much until we go uh showing the first episode we don’t know what’s going to happen um because 70% Japanese dialogue with subtitles that must have made FX a little nervous that almost the entire thing is in Japanese yeah but uh it worked somehow yes yeah thank you so much the character you play uh Lord taga is based on a real person uh Tokugawa yasu yes correct who is the first Shogun of the the Tokugawa shogunate yes and I is is that someone that everyone in Japan grows up knowing about like were you very familiar very familiar and famous and then you know he was my hero since I was kid um because he stopped the war period and then created the uh long time peaceful era um which is like the height of Japanese culture comes during the the the tooa shogunate yes like yes no one gets in or gets out of the country for that period of time yes until we open the country to the world continue the peaceful era so that’s why you know I wanted to play his role especially for now it’s a good hero we need he’s an extraordinary character because he’s always got a plan One Step Beyond what anyone including the audience knows is about to happen that must be fun to play yes he’s a great strategist like a high class chess player yeah right with a sword playing chess against someone with a sword is very intim full armors now you have a co-star in this who is a bird one of your one of your co-stars here is a falcon yeah very important coworker yes with claws named the bird’s name named Shogun when I saw him first time uh in the training with him he was just three months old but already well trained and he he was born just for the Shogun this show like wow amazing it’s not the first time youve worked with a bird because I know here you are are you playing a samurai here how long ago is this it was H 30 years ago almost like doesn’t seem as well trained and then I yeah and then I played the my Ro Tag’s rival isido uh iso’s model uh is is mitar I played at that time and then it was like a torture scene and then you know somebody put the Falon on my shoulder and then it was not in the script but he tried to attack my head yeah but luckily at that time my wig had a metal inside so like a helmet so no pain totally no pain but I had to act to matching for his acting so I was like that face yes yeah but it worked they used that on air the director liked how you were just we just we cut the metal sound cut cut cut cut cut now uh everybody uh has I said so many people love this show but one of the bad things about it is that it’s based on James clell’s book and you guys go all the way through to the end of the book but people want more Shogun is there going to be another season of Shogun yeah until we get a great reactions and then people wants through the season two something then we started thinking about that but even we don’t have um novel anymore we use that in the season one everything but we know know how to storytelling and also we have real history like you know you know Real Models there so we know what happened in real so so many episod good episodes to make a drama so so you can just go to the reality to get all the way because it ends before the establishment of the Shogun 8 yes there’s several years before that happens yeah yeah and is it the end of am I pronouncing this correctly the Soko judai yeah perfect wow than where did you learn Japanese wow impressive it’s F it’s a fascinating period in Japanese history I’m fascinated with it yeah War period yeah long time War period yes so it’s possible we can get our hopes up um yeah um yeah episode 10 I revealed my dream what’s going to happen in the future but never happened in season one so it can be happened in season two and three hopefully we just started to prepare riding rooms open and then scouting uh uh location or crew so let’s see what’s going to happen well please come back if it does thank you lovely to meet you season one of Shogun is streaming now on Hulu P everybody
