Hungarian Dances No.4 / Brahms – Joachim【Violin & piano】｜Eimi Wakui
‘Hungarian Dance No. 4’ is one of the pieces from Johannes Brahms’ (1833–1897) collection of ‘Hungarian Dances,’ which consists of 21 works. Originally composed for piano four hands, this piece was inspired by Brahms’ interest in folk music, especially Hungarian folk dances. His deep fascination with traditional Hungarian music is reflected in this work. The piece has been arranged for various instrumentations, and the violin version, in particular, was arranged by his close friend, Joseph Joachim (1831–1907), and is well-known.
The charm of ‘Hungarian Dance No. 4’ lies in its rhythm and energy. Brahms skillfully incorporates rhythmic variations and folk-like phrases found in Hungarian traditional music, creating a strong impression on the listener. The structure of the piece alternates between tension and release, drawing the listener into its dynamic movements.
Additionally, the work is built on a repetitive theme and variations, with the melody recurring throughout the piece, providing a sense of unity. In the middle section, the tempo changes, adding contrast between fast and slow, leading to rich musical expression and dramatic development. Eimi ! I think i would want to say it first, you look really great and beautiful in this attire. You have great taste.
This is a very interesting piece, as what you have mentioned in your introduction, the rhythm interchange forth and back. I love the slower pace part that I find is very romantic. Sure the fast pace got a very good "dance" feel. I pay so much attention to your playing, that when it comes to finish, I feel, oh ! the piece is so short ! You did a marvelous job, and the pianist is great too. Thank you so much for your great performance ❤ and looking forwards to your next one.
Quite dazzling. I've mentioned my affection for our Hungarian/Romanian violin wizards. No need for artificial harmonics to generate challenge. Those low double stops, quick bows and flying turns/trills are a lot harder than they seem. Staying in time with quirky accents is just another layer.
The point of that list is that you did it all very nicely along with a beautiful tone and musical sparkle.
You also use your shoulders and knees effectively with the occasional smile that says that things worked!
