小津を超えた傑作。市川崑おそるべし。ただ題名をフランク永井のヒット曲に便乗したものにしたおかげですっかり過小評価されたのではないか。
父娘の関係、女性の結婚と仕事、男女の仲、すべてよく描かれているし、だいいちヒロインがつねに半笑いしながらセリフを言う原節子のようにいい子ぶった男性目線の女でない。あのイメージラインを無視した正面からの人物のショット(あれが気になってしようがない)がない。小津のパロディと言ってはもったいない。結末もある意味観客を軽快に裏切っている。わたしはこの方が好きだ。
