  1. Didn't you just confuse the wording, or am I confused? Attacks on the elbow are okey, but attacks on the shoulder are only okey if the elbow is the primary target. Right?
Whatever. That exact sambo move got my opponent disqualified in a regional judo championship final. I don't feel good about it. I had ample time to tap.

  2. Chadi that technique exists in Kosen Judo and there is a famous video that shows a judoka executing that technique from the guard in a very masterful way.

  3. Thanks for sharing. Really interesting techniques of "узел плеча". I have a question regarding bicep slicer techniques, are they okay to perform in Judo? In Sambo there are many bicep slicer variations, e.g. when Tori failed juji gatame then can transition to a bicep slicer (in Russian "ущемление бицепса с рычага локтя").

  4. Are you talking about a Sambo technique or Judo technique? Then you jump to Aikido. Different waza's. This vid is all over the place. Not a good idea trying to teach here.

  5. Kyukushin Budokai goes one step further than BJJ. It includes Sambo techniques however it is a form of Karate (empty hands). Developing ground karate the target is blocking as far as possible the arms of the opponent by legs and body parts and having the own hands as free as possible the target is to destroy sensitive bodyparts and head of the opponent even in the case that he tries to fix you. So he has to lower his grip often therefore. Jon Bluming showed some variations. Maybe Satoshi Ishii knows some tricks also from Cro Cop. Bluming joked a little bit when said that when the opponent wants to kill you you must have techniques to kill him. He was a "warrior". This has nothing to do anymore with olympic sports (wrestling or olympic judo).

  6. Pretty brutal. It looks like a move this pro wrestler (Perry Saturn) used to do called “The Rings of Saturn”. Looked pretty legit.

  7. The only joint you are allowed to attack in Judo is the elbow. Period. Any other joint attack is forbidden. The ude garami as shown is illegal as it attacks the shoulder. No ref is going to call it, but it’s not attacking the elbow. A standing armlock can be applied but Tori has to remain standing. Bicep slicer is legal, it’s in Neil Adam’s book on armlocks. I highly recommend the A to Z of Judo by Syd Hoare for the best reference. HOWEVER always remember that the referee is human and they get tired towards the end of the shiai. As a coach I urge my players to avoid anything questionable to keep the referee out of the match

  8. Well, that is VICIOUS…. leave it to the Russians to make something like that a practice. And I say that out of well earned respect on their part.

  9. Satoshi Ishii He was Olympic champion at a quite young age. He left the sport for Teddy Riner and switched to MMA. He said once that his father was Japanese Sambo champion. Maybe this was the reason for the decision and not the fear of losing against Teddy, who was even younger, by the time. Satoshi didn't give him a chance of revenge. This was trist because Teddy won the All World Open championship in the same year where just one champion was possible (instead of three or more).
Anyway Satoshi explained that he searched his personal goal in a sport that offers more fighting possibilities.
Maybe he can explain where the advantages and disadvantages of judo are compared to the other grappling sports (let's leave out striking and kicking perhaps).
Teddy explained that he doesn't want to enter any other martial arts because he is of the opinion that they are not human (maybe because of striking techniques on the ground?).

  10. All wrestling moves are meant originally to cripple the enemy. It has to be defined in Sport and Training versions to save the opponent for further practicing. Everything dangerous for health is good for the WAR.

  11. You must always distinguish between a normal mortal like us and one of these sports geniuses. They can tell us much what we can believe or not – Edwin Moses said once that he feared that someone could film and analyse his hurdle races because he was of the opinion (at least according to what he explained) that this follows a mathematical physical formula -.
If we take the Japanese judo genius Keijji Suzuki we heard that he (they) analysed videos of his main opponents and that he was confirmed by the result of the 2004 Olympics.
If this is really possible you must take into account also this way of improvement. However I remember that this might not be valuable for "normal mortals". For beginners there are even other problems. To begin with general physical strength and endurance is a basis but you can do almost nothing. To begin with a special style is another way where you learn certain principles however often without the physical basis, which can have later disadvantages. And at the end I mention the unsure way of just learning tricks especially at the beginning.
There is also the problem of time investment. The Russians once had a lot of time for sports and other activities. So they could go a solid way and then continuing with special improvement.
Especially the judo way and the sambo way have learnt from eachother and even Olympic wrestling and judo made profit from eachother often via Sambo.
Men so as Jon Bluming did not do anything else in their whole life than improving martial arts. Mixed Martial Arts is also not the right word. It is more a combination than a mix in this sence even if the Kyukushin Budokai doesn't teaches one style (Bruce Lee may have been a also a thinker in this direction.)
