Ghost of Tsushima (The Movie) [Kurosawa Edition]
Due to the popularity of the “Kurosawa Mode” in Ghost of Tsushima, I’ve taken a stab at producing my own version of that mode. Because I didn’t want to just go back and re-record the entire game, and I personally prefer the color version of the game, so I didn’t play in that mode in my original movie.
Instead, I decided to attempt recreate the look and sound of 50s Kurosawa movies such as Seven Samurai. I’ve produced my own custom tailored black and white grade, I’ve used a film simulation filter and added some vignetting, and I’ve added several audio filters to recreate the way older movies sound.
Here is the original movie:

I highly recommend watching this in 4K mode, even if you don't have a 4K screen, in order to best preserve the film grain effect I've added
Came out at the perfect time lol
Jin sakai died, the ghost 👻 was born
OMG! Respect for uploading in true ultra wide, and in B&W.. You must have gone back and forth on that decision 🙂
I will watch this on my ultra wide screen. Thanks!
Wow! I'm curious whether you replayed and recorded the whole game in kurosawa mode or did it in post-production?
Reminds me of LA Noire, i played that entire game in black and white
Brilliant, dude!
Masterfully done!
Wow perfect timing if I didn’t know any better I would assume you had an insider in Sucker Punch
wow! Super respect for this work of art!
I love this idea and applaud you for doing it. It's unfortunate that the film grain tool isn't selective as to what it applies to. It just doesn't look right. B&W movie film of the day required a tremendous amount of light to be properly exposed within the 1/25 of a second allowed. To compensate for the need of sensitivity, the movie film grain (Silver Halide crystals) tended to be large – a property exaggerated by the enlargement of the image as it was shown in the big screen. That said, the grain was nearly invisible in brightly exposed areas of film because in those areas the light rendered the crystals nearly transparent (or they were washed away via development, or whatever). Similarly, the grain is nearly invisible in black areas because the same crystals are nearly opaque. It's in the middle-exposure areas where the grain is most visible, if it is visible at all. Frankly, the quality of film evolved rather quickly – not all B&W movies are grainy. Here is an excerpt from a video on a YouTube channel called Foreign Film Essays which contains several Kurosawa films in its discussion: https://youtu.be/tp9NZVdqUZs?t=435 It could be argued that the examples therein are different from the theater experience due to the poor recording quality of video tape, but there is enough to show that grain wasn't a strong component.
And after saying all of THAT, I prefer this version. I just have to watch from across the room.
seriously top shelf. NO ONE does game movies better.
from a fucking game, what a loser
Why no in japanese lenguage?? 👎Is u wanted make a Kurosawa movie
unfortunately it is in english, i was waiting for it to be in Japanese to increase immersion…
