  1. The sensei at the dojo I go to often says, "Those who are good at being passive will be the strongest, so don't try to avoid throwing, but think of it as a passive practice and throw."

I think it is a word that comes out because the sensei has seen many such accidents.

  2. Judo is a very danger martial art, submission does not only happens on the ground fight, in real world a good throw can kill someone.

  3. Kata is useless in the sense that time could be used more effectively elsewhere. You can learn things by doing it, it just never is very effective.

  4. Since we don't have Judo any where close to where I live, I started doing jiu-jitsu and I really don't care about being thrown. I just try to land safely and keep fighting even if someone gets a nice throw on me. The same applies to when I get a nice throw on someone else.

It's sort of liberating to take Judo throws into the jiu jitsu school because you can do throws and get a nice position. Then even if you haven't gotten a perfect throw the fight just continues but with a major advantage in position for me. Of course sometimes I screw it up and end up in a worse spot (usually off an ippon seoi nage), but I still get to learn in those cases so I can do better in the future
