I already complimented you on this piece, but I thought of you as I listened to a recording of Ziguenerweisen played by Vasa Prihoda. He plays the slow middle part in double stops, something I haven't heard. He flies through the ending, a masterpiece of light bowing and focus.
Listening to or watching others isn't necessarily for comparison, but to see how others play and interpret.
Another aspect is that everyone works through what has become 'standard repertoire' – like this piece. We all know it by heart and listen with a familiarity that can diminish the value.
I always imagine what it must have been to have heard something for the first time, perhaps played by the composer.
This short piece is not only pretty, but has plenty of opportunity for expression.
That's why I liked your version of the last page: fast enough, but still expressive and pretty.
Saint-Saëns wrote an amazing amount of beautiful music.
