Hello everyone. Shibasaki here. It has been so hot these days. At my age…. …its not so easy for me to survive a day like this. But I am doing well and painting everyday. So….in this episode…. …I am going to paint a work to be exhibited at my solo exhibition…. …that will take place in Osaka starting on July 27th. In the end of this video…. …I will give you the detailed information on the exhibition….. ….like the date and location, as well as admission rules. Relax and enjoy Let’s get started. Well….let’s start to paint. I am going to paint flowers today. Notice that the flowers are painted in a graying color? You know what it is if you are familiar with watercolor painting processes. To paint the flowers in light colors and prevent dark colors from affecting them…. …I have applied masking liquid on them. You can peel the material off later to reveal uncolored spots of paper. For the best results, the background should be made particularly dark. Did you notice I was doing something weird? That’s right. For a watercolor painting, you need to use an ample amount of paint. You can scratch the wet surface with a tool like this…. …to make it look fuzzy. This is to represent the texture of the back wall. So I am painting flowers…. …but hat I want to really represent today other than flowers is…. ….lighting. In modern days….. ….out life is filled with artificial lightning inside and outside. But I believe nothing can beat the sun and other natural light. I am trying to represent sun natural light as strikingly as possible. These glassed vessels are perfect for that purpose. through the glass, things in the back can be seen….. …or the background color looks dramatically darker…. …by refraction of light. I have added a different color to the background. It’s really interesting to paint watercolor. This painting of flowers….. ….is to be exhibited at my upcoming solo exhibition…. ….that is going to take place from July 27 at Gallery Sasaki in Shinsaibashi, Osaka. I have just peeled off the masking liquid I applied earlier…. Then the white, unpainted spots of the paper have been revealed…. …where I am placing the colors of the flowers. These are not any particular flower. As I earlier said…. …I most want to represent the light…. …shining through the window. These flowers are used just to show how they are shining in the light. About my solo exhibition at Gallery Sasaki…. …at the color exhibition in the spring at Tsutaya Bookstore in Kyoto….. …I presented a lot of paints of cats. They were greatly well-received by the visitors…. …so that I was asked to do the same in Osaka. I am mainly going to exhibit paintings of flowers like this one. This painting I am producing right now…. ….will be there at the venue if you can come to visit the exhibition. While I am speaking…. …I am going on to working on the table. I am now painting the shadows of the objects cast on the table. Light can be represented by painting shadows. But the shadow of a glass vessel is the production of light passing through the glass.. It has to be represented differently from painting the shadow of an apple for example. So a close observation will be required. The glasses are coming along….I am adding some details to the flowers. Will this do? What do you think? I am working on this section now. Rather than adding details…. …I am more creating the atmosphere within the range of representation. That is because I am trying to visualize light. Particularly dark colors are required for the transparent glass vessel like you see…. An addition of lots of colors makes the painting even more attractive. Well? Just like that. I am adding white gouache to enhance the presence of light. Here too. I am painting for a long time…. From the perspective of a painter…. …light is a very curious subject. Its beauty and uniqueness…. …can be important factors of a painting. How is it? When you wake up in the morning and open your curtains…. …do you ever give a cat of joy? We take the bright light from the sun as an important element of life. The joy from the sun among all the artificial light around us…. …must not be forgotten through our life. So light from the sun and darkness have been being represented in this painting. Looking good? Now that it’s done, I am adding my signature. This painting will be on display at my solo exhibition…..please come and see it. Here it is. so this is it. this is my painting. Wha did you think? I have painted flowers….. …but as I said repeatedly…. ….light is actually the subject. I am happy if you feel the light in this painting. As I said in this video…. …I will display this in my solo exhibition. Please come to see it! Let me give you the details of the exhibition. It will take place in Osaka. It is at Gallery Sasaki in Shinsaibashi, Osaka. The exhibition will run from July 27th till August 1st. It must be hot….. While I would like to meet you all….. …I am also concerned because of the heat. In order to make the event great and successful….. ….we have come up with two ways of admission. One of them is making reservation. The other is to obtain a same-day ticket. You can decide which method is good for you. But a reservation is necessary if you are coming from a distant area and don’t want to reschedule your trip. Or if you are busy and only have on day to visit. A reservation will ensure that you are admitted into the venue and it’s highly recommended. It’s especially important if you hate waiting under the scorching the sun. However……if you want to come….but don’t know when…. come to the gallery to get a same-day ticket. But….we are not sure how many same-day ticket will be available depending on the reservation numbers. so…a reservation will be certainly recommend….. ….but same-day tickets will be also be available. I am very excited to meet as many visitors as possible. Take good care of yourself and come to visit me. I will also be careful with my health against the heat…. …try your best not to get heat stroke. Thank you for watching this video till the end. I am sure to see you in the next video with a different work and a different theme. Thank you for watching. I will see you in my solo exhibition. Thank you.

  8. So so pretty!
Love the rust, gold, red hues that make this floral corner look SO cosy and peaceful. The glass vases add to the mystical nature of this painting. Looks like a frame from old times when life was slow and calm.
Natural sunlight is so much more warm than artificial light as you rightly pointed out Sensei Shibasaki San 🙏🏽

  11. I've never been good with watercolor and a lot of the mediums you have taught with. Watching your videos has helped so much and I've enjoyed learning a lot with you. Thank you for always smiling and spreading the joys of color.
