My First Tournament Match with Daigo
last weekend I had my first ever tournament match against Dao umara now the past month since Street Fighter 6 season 2 launched and the start of these Esports World Cup qualifiers has been just some really stacked tournaments we had dream hack Dallas and dream hack summer and just the amount of talent especially at Dallas you can see how strong uh the talent pool was like JB flux play with me and Sho in one pool out of I think there were what 32 or I guess 16 pools you see like extremely good players getting eliminated in top 64 which means like the talent pool is just extremely high and the reason for that is that top eight of each of these events qualified for the Esports World Cup which it’s a controversial event but at the end of the day it’s a million dooll prize pool and that’s the reason why all these competitors showed up to this event and at dream ma Dallas I went on a pretty crazy run I beat Sho in my pool I beat flux waves I lost to higuchi that put me down to Loser side of top 20 4 and then I beat quano beat Futo lost to PRX 21 one spot away actually one round away from making it to the top eight and qualifying and if you might have noticed Dao actually was not in the brackets for dream hack Dallas because he was having some Visa issues if I recall correctly so dream hack summer was kind of like a Redemption for me try at qualifying um into that Esports World Cup right so that set up me versus Dao in pools actually a winner of our match made it into top 32 winners so that was pretty important because whoever wi more matches in winner side and then they make like the top eight and qualify for the ESP Sports World Cup if you watch my videos in the past you know this isn’t my first time actually playing against dieo I played him at casuals at Gamers 8 last year and then I invited him to a custom room when I was in Japan training for Capcom cup and we played there as well this is my first time actually playing against digo and torman and that might be a bit different cuz you know D’s kind of a legend in tournament right so um I’ll just try and explain my thoughts going through this match there obviously got the throw um anti- throw option with the jump medium punch went for the fireball he actually got a jump in there I guess he a jump air Fireball the four medium kick kind of stopping my Approach getting a counter hit I wake up with a super the reason I wake up super instead of extp like you might think is cu you actually get Okie after the Super I didn’t actually mean to burn out there so this round’s kind of done I was hoping that I had a like pixel of Drive gauge left which is why I thought I had but um I miscalculated a little bit so just a bit nerves I guess in that first round or I guess like yeah I just wasn’t playing the best cuz I didn’t notice my drive gauge he’s using that for medium kick a lot I can whiff punish it with crash medium punch but it’s very hard he’s trying to do that move to be a driver’s check I’m just trying to get a hit confirm into the level one and right now I’m having a lot of trouble finding my way in he got a whiff punish and then he got a back throw good Crouch medium punch for me though and yeah I’m just trying to find my way in once again he’s getting closer to the corner so if I can push him there it might be a bit easier for me to try and get some damage but he actually drive rushes right when I jump in and gets a drive Rush on my whiff heavy punch as well and that’s definitely dead so something I noticed after the match um not really during was that uh a lot of his Drive rushes I feel like were were getting through and I I probably should have focused more on checking them um but I just wasn’t really thinking about that as much so I went back to character select to think about it a little bit more because I didn’t want to just rush into it and just lose the exact same way um I wanted to play a bit slower and neutral and just kind of walk around more I feel like the main reasons I lost uh were that like he kind of Sid switched a few times right so I actually got to check on the drivers right there back dash my throw so I haven’t really gotten good guesses on my offense but I went for the throw again I didn’t think you would back Das again and I could have comboed there but was scared for the DP go for the bait there and beats the drive reversal that would have be like a DP or anything so I’m not sure actually why he decided to drive reversal right there I feel like the reason you would do a drive reversal instead of an extp is because the risk is less right because you take a bit less damage but in that situation he died anyway so I’m not really sure I see the reason yeah I’m just so focused on playing footsies I think that I wasn’t really paying attention to his uh Drive rushes antire on the demon flip I just need one more and that’s why I went for that Parry right there cuz I knew that I was going to get the level three into the kill I mean there’s just not that much risk right to tapping Perry right there so I just figured if this hits I get the level three and kill and if not then oh well we still got a level three and plenty of chances to actually land it get the low forward he takes the throw this time I actually get a jump in over his Fireball pretty lucky and I was plus five on that makes my stand medum punch actually safe to drive reversal and I’m actually able to get an optimal punish into to the level one just need one more round here and then we’re through to Winner’s top 32 don’t check the drivers right there ex Fireball get a throw and he actually back dashes again I didn’t expect him to back dash I thought maybe he would press a button and I think that jump may have cost me the round that I did right there that’s probably a mistake I shouldn’t have made again it’s kind of what lost me the first game too I think was doing those jumps but I guess I won the first round right off of a jump but just like a huge risk and it’s actually still winnable I just need one hit but then I didn’t really notice how much Drive gauge that forward medium kick was taking why I just wasn’t playing my greatest I’ll say cuz I wasn’t too aware of what was going on with my drive gauge and yeah those Drive rushes I I’m just not checking so he keeps doing them I’m sure if I checked them he would stop um but I was just not ready for those good reaction on that but I’ve lost so much Drive gauge up to this point that it’s uh it’s looking pretty rough it’s okay if I can get the level three cuz it’s a backwards super input so I can actually react to a DI I think he’s actually respecting me a lot cuz uh I can like heavy punch in level one as well and I’m almost getting my drive gauge back so I’ve got a lot of Drive gauge to work with can store behind my ex Fireball spend two stocks right there get a throw get another throw I waited for extp CU you know digo and his sh use but I actually right there I thought um I tried to level three um so I guess I react I did the input a little bit tooo slow and I was in the down and he did basically what I did I don’t think he could killed if he driver us again so he just stopped it here I think maybe he thought this was going to burn me out because last season it was but maybe he just forgot but either way that’s looking really rough if I can find a heavy Punch or something until level three I can actually win but unfortunately the Ford medum kick just really oppressive and that neutral actually went over my Fireball and so you don’t always clutch them out we got to the last round I guess um but Dao ended up beating us and we dropped the losers we beat this Jamie player named Wonder Boy who actually beat valmas so we made top 32 um and then we lost to arper that one was last round as well um but either way it would have been a pretty tough road we would have had to play ending Walker Jack and Rain Pro to make top eight on the other hand Dao lost to ezon with the buff zeni and he also lost to Juicy Joe a really good JP player I believe he’s from Sweden so he’s like local to that area and so while the stakes of our match with doo was high it kind of ended up meaning nothing because neither of us qualified in the end the next qualifier is CEO I think top two make it out from CEO and digo is registered to compete but I do know there are some International Players planning to show up cuz the Esports World Cup is such a big event so hopefully I get my run back with Dao there I think I know some adjustments I should make um so I can do a bit better next time and hopefully I can actually get that top two and qualify cuz I’ve been I’ve been getting pretty close at least in Dallas I got close this one not so much anyways I The past month after the Season 2 balance patch has been pretty exciting in terms of tournaments, as we had Dreamhack Dallas and Dreamhack Summer, both big qualifiers for the Esports World Cup. In my pools at Dreamhack Summer, I had to play against the legendary Daigo Umehara, this time against his Akuma.
Street Fighter 6 is now available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.

Finally, Daigo meets his nephew
Hype match. Still shocking this is a first. Wait till next time!
Please dont say "its a controversial event, but in the end… MONEY!"
Thats just a big yikes. For all the LGBT friendly publicity and social inclusivity that is in the FGC. Going to a Saudi event funded by their government is just insanely hypocritical.
Daigo is a masher.
nice plays
Ironic how you were studying Gouki a few days ago
That jump was the momentum change lol. I saw that live. Still great game.
NEPHEW! WHAT ARE YOU SAYING IN THE INTRO? I CAN’T HEAR YOU OVER THE MUSIC.
Wait was Daigo actually in jail
The first match looked sweaty. Both of you adjusting to each other's playstyle looked almost like a tossup.
That Burnout is what got you. I have noticed from other matches that Diago still comes in very balanced, mindful of both offense and defense. Maybe you can use that to your advantage if he's built boundaries because of opponents aggression.
1:22 New ARG?
You did pretty good my dude. Keep up the good work at tourneys
Daigo glazer here but it wasnt easy rooting against you. you'll get that runback for sure
can't believe we lost to Daigo
Way to play dude!
